@cartern316 The beauty of these exercises is that there is no right or wrong. Simply putting to pen to paper with intention is enough. If you start writing and feel compelled to go in a different direction, by all means, go! You never know where the creative process will lead you.
@AnimalBlackmatism Ok, honestly... I thought this was the 21st century. You took the time to watch the entire video and that is what you came up with to post?? You are a pinhead.
reading something transgresive(for you) can be great for that kick-start required for reading. a pen-pal recomended NV by supervert and i was ready to bash it as another goth necro crap but it was so wonderful and disturbing in it's creativity and knowledge that it rekindled my reading hobby and was enough of a distraction to get me of my depresion
Very good tips. Thank you so much. I know that I don't do nearly enough writing and I'm trying to kick myself into doing more of it. These guidelines you've given help a bunch. Thank you again. :)
I understand the principle but this could be dangerous, if say for example, a recovering alcoholic tries to address the issues that they feel makes them drink and then discovers that they can't face them, their anxiety grows and they end up drinking again. They would need professional guidance before (and probably during) such an exercise.
@howtostopanxiety You make a good point. I suggest that anyone struggling with such demons make sure that he/she remains hyper-aware of his/her reactions to the process. If it starts to feel like too much, take a break. If it's an all-around negative experience, that could be an extreme case in which the individual might consider exploring alternative methods of coping.
This was wonderful! I'm an aspiring writer and I can't wait for tips on writers block and maybe you could speak about finding determination to finish your work? I always seem to lose my way and I can't find help to finish.
@PBrofaith At WriteByNight, we keep our doors wide open to writers of all ages and experience levels, working in all genres. As you can imagine, we enjoy a pretty heterogeneous client base!
Near the beginning of the video, there were some annoying fuzzy noises.. and on/off throughout there were some shifting shadows. Pls tell me this wasnt all my crazy imagination..?
The idea of having an audience can cause fear and this fear can block you, but the idea of having an audience can also stimulate you to write better...you can share your story with your audience...and your audience can give you (positive)feedback.
I believe Catharsis is more important than having an audience...and I believe the feelings of the artist are also more important than the feeling of a potential audience...but sometimes it's good to share an alternative reality in an independant film.
@strangeaslife There are pros and cons to both. Most people these days can type faster than they can write, which makes it easier for your hands to keep up with your brain while you're working. However, many would say that there's an element of intimacy to writing by hand--the feel of the pen, the scratch of the pen to paper--that you simply can't get from a computer screen. When it comes down to it, it's a personal decision that you'll have to make according to your preferences.
wow!!!! thank you so much.. i am a concerned mother of a 13 year old boy. my son suffers from ocd, adhd and anxiety disorder. my sons father was murdered when he was just 2 years old and he has not been able to cope nor grief his fathers death.. he often feels angry at his father because he feel that he abandoned him. no matter how much i try to tell him that is not his fault , he still have these feelings.. nonetheless; he is in therapy since he was 5 years old. he has become rebelious.
Thats what blogs are made for. It works. Also, I've been using my girlfriend as a willing sounding board, and it also helps. I think the key is just acknowledging your thoughts and emotions in an external way, be it in writing or verbally. But I don't recommend it (the girlfriend part), shit comes back to haunt you.
I've been using my diaries in this way for about 1 1/2 years (before that it was more about recording experiences) and it's incredible how it helps. Seeing your emotions and thoughts written down validates them. I've written about 400 pages in 2010 and I've started to think of writing as my "psychological liver" - it filters out the poison.
I discovered some of this back in the first gulf war. I think my journal relieved just enough stress that I didn't have to kill my commanding officer (and then myself of course). It was really close though.
During my army years I thought I was clinically depressed or just plain nuts. But when I got out of the army I was fine. Haven't wanted to kill myself or anyone else, even a little, since then
A lot of people would have been grateful if I wasted the bastard though. He was pure evil.
i uses three rules :
1) daily, i write daily no matter what
2) quickly, i don't induldge into deep thoughts
3) for real, i send it to readers
(i am french from france)

I like how comments that don't "work" with this video get removed, Thus, more retards attempting to help others where they shouldn't be helping.

How important would you say it is to *write* by hand versus typing on a computer?
