  • What's the line "Kiss me quickly, I'm in a hurry" supposed to mean or be in reference to? seems kind of out of place.

I like how the line sounds it's just...whenever I read into the meaning or what people think is the meaning of the song they never mention the line.

  • What melody is that in the background? i have heard it before.

  • I want this to be in the movie "Perks of Being a Wallflower" reminds me a lot about it

  • OMGGG

  • what he's talking about? if he were a gi joe he would be the best lol

  • @Oxidized181 thumbs up for you bro

  • A tremendously good voice <3

  • Is this that song about algernon the mouse?

  • @jasperanklesighs No, but I found myself singing this while I was reading that.

  • hi I have lost all my 405 elliott song and there is another song about charlie, does it have a name or not and if it does what is it?

  • @supemcpc The name Charlie is mentioned in "Some Song". Maybe that's the one you're looking for :)

  • @supemcpc He mentions Charlie, whom is his step dad that raped him in several of his songs.

  • @Grungekiid I don't think he raped him, I think he just abused him. I think he raped Bunny, though.

  • @heyjude97 Its quite obvious Charlie abused him, and you may be right and I may be wrong, but I remember reading about an interview where he said something about Charlie raping him, I cant find it anymore, but like i said, i could be wrong. I don't see how he could have raped Bunny though if they were married.

  • @Grungekiid i believe it was molestation but not rape. i could also be wrong though.

  • @Grungekiid Marital rape is still rape.

  • @Grungekiid You can still be married to someone and be convicted of rape.

  • @Grungekiid You do realize forced sex between people married is still very much wrong, right?

  • 0 ppl dislike this? I knew it would happen one day, and makes perfect sense that it's an elliott song

  • @randomcrackers Me too :( ... but isn't great that this is almost as perfect as a studio recording?

  • You know, I don't usually subscribe to the "Thumbs up if you think..." rhetoric, but seriously. Thumbs up if you think that this song is proof positive that the best of Elliott Smith would have been yet to come.

  • this is so amazing if elliott smith beat me up it would still be an honor

  • @villasixx i dont think he would do that haha unless you were from texas!;)

  • I honestly didn't know he could sing this good. And I've got all his records.. Hah I'm almost getting a bit pissed here. Was there anything he couldn't pull off?

  • @Sprtschk yes that would be writting bad songs..i dont think he ever did that

  • @EdwardGSayers Aight. The only bad thing I could ever say about him is that he's so good I sort of feel bad about myself.

  • @Sprtschk LOL I understand. His songwriting ability is downright intimidating.

  • This is a beautiful song, even though the chorus melody is taken from John Lennon's War is Over, which to me almost makes it more beautiful, like an allusion in a literary masterpiece, Elliot's interpretation of this magic melody, in his own unique style is so powerful for me, especially considering his dad gave him the white album when he was young, which made him want to be a musician

  • well i think this song may have something to do with "Flowers for Algernon" in which the main character was named Charlie

  • this caused me to orgasm

  • i ruv dis song

  • Pleasepleaseplease.

I love this song, and I thank you muchly for posting it.

But does anybody know where I might be able to download it?

    RIP Elliott.

  • all i've been able to think about for ages is how good this song is <3 <3

i think the flowers are about forgiveness to his dad charlie

i admire his strength to be able to forgive his dad, i still cant

  • @itsmichaelable his step-dad was charlie... charlie abused elliott as a child.that's why his nose looks like that. gary was the parent that actually got him into playing music... and saved him from charlie.

  • anyone notice the quasi song empty words sounds similar at the main riffs? kinda cool

  • elliot beats the shit outa all modern artists for 1 reason

he made the music because it was an outlet

not a vacum for his wallet

  • @Mochme if i could vote this up a million times i would :)

  • @Mochme Best comment i have ever seen

  • @Mochme Not many musicians (bands) make that much money anyways. But you're right, he wasn't in it for the fame at all. The talent speaks for itself.

  • This song is so good. It has hints of war is over, but the melodies are ever better imo.

  • WAAAAAAAAR IS OOOOOOOOOVER

  • @metallica111122 hahaha Yeah...TOTALLY...gee I wonder who influenced this song..hahahaha...but its funny becasue I totally hear it too

  • This song is a retelling of The Story of Ferdinand, from the perspective of Ferdinand the Bull, which Elliott had a tattoo of on his upper arm.

  • @Mariah1461 It has nothing to do with flowers for algernon...... It's for his stepdad. Who sexually abused him when he was in his teenage years.

  • It took me forever to find this song for download, but it was so worth it =D

  • @Hooska Hi, could you do me a big favour and PM details of where i can download this? would be greatly appreciated :)

  • @Mariah1461 that's a sick book

  • I wish this song was longer it's so amazing i love everything about this song

  • elliott was abused by his step father charlie. the flowers are for his stepfathers grave. the song is sang in the same melodie as war is over by John Lennon where the KIDS sing in chorus war is over. Elliott wants to give flowers for Charlies grave so that the war is finally over.

  • Nice try, but Charlie's not dead. I'd guess the flowers are just a metaphor for extending his forgiveness to Charlie.

  • his stepdad ruined his life, it's his fault elliott is gone

  • that what i was thinking at first

  • he wrote it for his stepdad

  • he is an angel.

  • @miroleander literally

  • where can I get this?

  • "thanks a lot goodnight."

at the end so sweet. pure love for him.

  • Sam Coomes of Quasi can be heard singing backup in this recording. It's such a shame that this little gem never received a studio recording.

  • clever name!! haha

  • elliott was truly amazing

  • i heard that elliott smith is an angel and that hes an amazing singer and guitarist.

  • you heard right.

  • Elliott's stepfather was named Charlie, which who he had a difficult relationship with. Charlie is also mentioned in the lyrics of "Some Song" and "No confidence man".

"Charlie beat you up, week after week. When you grow up your gonna be a freak" -Some Song

  • Title is based on the book Flowers for Algernon, from which the main character was named Charlie. Though the song has no other references to the book as far as I know.

  • charlie was elliott's stepfather, who he believed sexually abused him.

  • i heard he got rid of this song cuz it sounded too much like a john lennon song

  • sounds a little bit like war is over but it could have been done on purpose im not sure

  • hmmm ya it sounds a lot like it actually i dont think he wrote it on purpose i think this song is about his step dad

  • song about his step dad who sexually abused him as a young kid

  • @diabloxscorchox he didnt get rid of it, it was supposed to be on From a Basement on a Hill but his family refused to release it along with several other songs after he died which sucks because it is amazing.

  • never heard this song before, but I had heard of it. I like it! =D

    go Elliott, yay! Thanks =]

  • Reminds me of a christmas song

  • @sucramnormark its because it has a similar melody to "Happy xmas war is over" by john lennon probably

  • kiss me quickly, i'm in a hurry. <3

I miss him beyond belief, wish i could see him live... so bad.

  • he has alot of songs about him. his step father charlie welsh sexulay abused him when he was 7

  • " i brought you a flower from the other side..it's a free world and you dont have to hide" god, do i wish i wrote that

  • God, this song is so good.

  • awesome song. elliott is seriously talented

  • this song is amazing

  • charlie was his step dad who abused elliott

  • I havent seen any sort of proof so far that he did. But I know that they had a bad relation

  • its not so much music as much as it was and is still medicine

  • I loved that quote from the memorial wall.

  • @derekperales you are so right. well put. xo

  • @derekperales that is on the wall:)

  • @derekperales I don't see it as a medicine, it makes me sadder than i already am actually, but it helps me understand...
