Montrose, Sammy Hagar, Van Halen, Sammy Hagar, Chickenfoot, they're all pretty formulaic and fit right into the Red Rocker's niche. If you like the formula, then that's great. But it would be nice to see him add a bit of color to the spectrum. Only HSAS sounded a little different than Sammy's other work. Who's HSAS? Oh, that's the last 'Supergroup' Sammy fronted.

I agree. I was thinking the same thing. It almost sounds like Sammy keeps trying to slip back into the same old tired formula and the other guys are trying to pull into new areas of adventure. I think in time he may get more creative with the rest of them but I think he needs way more color and to go beyond the old worn out boundaries.
Now, I'm not knocking Sammy. He's a brilliant musician and puts on a HELL of a show. It's just that no matter what band he's in it's a very small step from his solo work. Perhaps that's how the bands want it. Van Halen took a huge leap. Brilliant stuff, sure, and it remains some of their best work. But it sounds like a continuation of Sammy's stuff and a complete departure of Van Halen's earlier work. This seems the same. There seems to be not much meeting in the middle.
I listened to all the Chickenfoot songs for the first time today. To me it sounds like there's a push and pull going on between Sammy's old 70's and 80's tired formula and the other guys trying to do something new. It almost sounds like their flyin by the seat of their pants at times. However, there are tremendous possibilities here. If they can keep it together, take it seriously, and get creative. Joe Satriani should create the vocal melodies in my opinion.

A Satch/Bucketfoot collab song would last for 14 minutes and feature a 7 minute two handed tapping solo duel and it'd end with the recording equipment exploding because it can't handle the awesome.

Allot of bands make good music when they're happy. Granted Smashing Pumpkins and Wolfmother aren't good examples, but others like Blink-182, Breaking Benjamin, and disturbed all get along.
Chickenfoot seems to be off to a slow, but good start. I wish they would come to Milwaukee. It's a nice blues and rock combo. I'm glad Sammy finally got together with a better guitarist and drummer. Finally playing some new material other than old Van Halen stuff. The Wabo's weren't very good at imitating it.
You want all your buddies to get along on poker night, of course.........but when it comes to music, I want my rock musicians to be squabbling and irritated because that energy comes out in the music...........just look at Roth Van Halen, the Eagles, and the Police.........their legendary in-fighting made some of the most brilliant music ever created.

When I first listened to the CD I thought the same thing. I listened to it once all the way through and then I put it away for a week. I listened to it again today and found that I liked it a lot more. I think you need to listen to it 4 or 5 times before you decide. ..... I did anyway.

man i hate the whole sammy roth thing , two different styles and they both rocked if you ask me . i have always thought they both kicked ass one ( roth) sings about cool who cares stuff and sammy is more poetic esp when he maes his songs about oral sex sound so cool ( good enough ) etc . so cant we all just get along and say ROCK it up to both . I like both versions of Van Halen but Sammy is way more talented than Dave and this band is better than anything that Dave would be able to put together. I agree with you . Im waiting for a new offering from EVH/DLR. Hagar is very good but I always liked Roth in VH better. No insult to hagar though, he is a GREAT singer and really didn't need Van Halen to begin with. He ruled in montrose and solo. If that band had stayed together, they could have been huge.

I`m not comparing this line up to Van Halen in any shape or form. I never was a sammy fan, but I will say, They really surprised me, when I heard that satch was involved months ago I said "It`ll never fly if satch plays the 100 notes 95 of them wasted a minute" deals, but he`s not doing that here, this is the best I`ve heard satch ever play, he`s finally slowed down and realized how powerful the Rhythem is. Something that Page, Hendrix and Leslie West all taught us, It`s the FEEL thats important

Allot of bands make good music when they're happy. Granted Smashing Pumpkins and Wolfmother aren't good examples, but others like Blink-182, Breaking Benjamin, and disturbed all get along.
Chickenfoot seems to be off to a slow, but good start. I wish they would come to Milwaukee. It's a nice blues and rock combo. I'm glad Sammy finally got together with a better guitarist and drummer. Finally playing some new material other than old Van Halen stuff. The Wabo's weren't very good at imitating it.

Also he was a Steve Vai Guitar Teacher, Kirk Hammet etc... So many to remember. He tour with the Stones, Deep Purple etc... All the G3 Tours around Europe, Asia and Usa. When I first listened to the CD I thought the same thing. I listened to it once all the way through and then I put it away for a week. I listened to it again today and found that I liked it a lot more. I think you need to listen to it 4 or 5 times before you decide. ..... I did anyway.
