Hello Betty, I have a quick question about your herb garden. Did you plant them as seedlings or did you actually plant the seeds? I had started one with mostly seedling but they are all gone now. I am wondering if I had used seeds, my plants would have last longer.
Mmm :) I bet this recipe would make for very nice, classy finger sandwiches (the little crustless ones served at parties). I'll have to try this. I'm unfamiliar with tarragon--the taste, that is, but am always willing to try new things :) Nice one Miss Betty ;)
Betty, some time please try Flaxseed bread. I buy "Healthy Life" brand but lots of folks make it. A salad sandwich is so perfect on it because it adds another texture.
@NewWaveArtistry I seasoned the chicken just normally with salt before putting it in the slow cooker. I didn't use pepper, but you may add pepper at the same time.
Hi Betty, Can't think of using tarragon or it's been so long I forgot. Can't remember what kind of taste it has. I loave chicken salad and the variations you can do, this looks like a very tasty one. Btw where are you finding such nice tomatoes this time of year? I am so jealous...LOL
Ahhh Kroger, will have to see if we are lucky enough to have some nice ones here. Meijer's has been mealy and tasteless but my tastebuds still want a good tomatoe! I am definitely going to pick up some tarragon to try this. Going to sort through some of your recipes for dinner tonight, thinking dinner rolls will be on the menu for sure. It is a gorgeous KY. day isn't it, you and Rick have a blessed one too.
I recently bought a whole lot of chicken breasts on sale, so this will be a perfect thing to do with some of them. :) I think I'll surprise my husband, make a nice batch of this, some pepperoni rolls, and a cherry pie for him for when he'll be watching the game tomorrow. Yum.
This looks nice, but I don't have time to watch it right now! I'll favorite this so I can watch it later. I'm sure I'll like it; I'll comment again then.
Hi betty I know u cook ur chicken in the slow cooker but do u put any broth in it? Or just dry? Wouldnt putting broth in it make it juicier? Loved the recipe. Zubna :-)
@zubnation I salt the chicken and put it in the slow cooker--no liquid added. If you add liquid you will get a "boiled" taste and texture, not a "roasted" taste and texture.
I just saw the chicken salad video. It finally came on. Maybe my phone is taking too long to get some videos on. Anyway ill try tarragon in chicken salad to see what it tastes like. I've never had it that way before. Have a great weekend betty. Kiss rent for me. Thanks
As you say, this is indeed a recipe that 'defines' tarragon.
A coincidence is that I just started using tarragon last weekend and I must say that the herb (although dried) made a great marinade for prawns (shrimp) combined with 1 whole garlic bulb, lemon, red onion chilli and olive oil etc. Turned out excellent!
I'm planning on doing the same again tonight with 'fresh' tarragon - actually the old wilted type from the supermarket :-) No seedings here yet.
As you know, I just love your videos. You always give me suggestions on what to have for lunch or dinner. My "go to" bread is the Oro bread. I will go to the garden center to see if some tarragon is still hanging around from the growing season. If not, dried will have to do. And the mayo suggestion is a great one. Less calories. Thanks Betty !!!
I've been trying to see this video but it wont upload for me. I did watch many other videos you made and I enjoyed them all. Your voice is very soothing too. God bless you and your family. Ill be watching new and older recipes you make.
I always add tarragon to my chicken salad because I use Ina Garten's (Barefoot Contessa) recipe. She has such a basic, but never fail delicious chicken salad!
Looks delicious! I love your videos and my grandma, who also also a great Southern cook, was named Betty, so your recipes bring back such fond memories for me :)
@RAWbeautytips If you like green (and/or red) bell pepper, that would be good. I think I would cut that down to 1/2 cup, because it is more flavorful.
Hi Betty, I never tried cooking chicken in a slow cooker. Bought tarragon my garden is finished for the season. Thank you again for your suggestions for my ribbon cutting ceremony. It was for my personal care home , Briarwood Manor here in PA. I'm all caught up on your videos. I'll be ready for AARP in 2013. I'm so happy for you and all your endeavours. Bless you Rick and family. Sincerely, Diana
Looks really good, Betty. The first time I made tarragon chicken (it was a casserole), I hated it - and wouldn't eat it for many years. Turns out, I had just used too much of the herb - not realizing how delicate it is. Now, I've learned to re-love it. Definitely going to try your salad!
I love your vidoes, recipes, they ar so much fun and I adore your voice, it's a dream. BTW I found some of that chipotle mayo in my local store yesterday! Will give it a try this weekend. Thanks for sharing all your advice and have a fantastic weekend, blessings, peace and joy, namaste %^)
Betty, this looks delicious! I plan to make this soon! I do have a question about how you store your already cooked chicken. I find that when I freeze cooked chicken, it often dries out. I usually store it in a plastic disposable storage container. What do you use? Foil, saran wrap, bags? Thank you so much for all your advice. I have been married for a year and 10 months and I love to learn new housekeeping/cooking tips!
@ThePinkMyth Cooked chicken does dry out if you freeze it for a long period of time. I usually put mine in an appropriately sized sealed plastic container, which I will sometimes put inside a ziplock bag.
wow that looks delicious! nice video, love watching people cook. however, when I try to cook, it doesn't turn out very well! lol anyway, i'm trying and learning little by little!
@MRSnickyMRsicario You can put the chicken in a roasting pan and bake it in the oven. (I usually like to cover it with a lid or aluminum foil. It will only take about 30 minutes, but just check it occasionally. Alternatively, you can boil chicken in salted water until done. Nowadays, a lot of people just pick up a rotisserie chicken in the deli section of their supermarket.
Tarragon Chicken Salad is one of my very favorite ways to eat chicken salad. I had it like that in a cafe once and loved it ever since. You are so lucky that you have that wonderful herb garden :)
@MRSnickyMRsicario I cooked my chicken breasts in a slow cooker. You just salt the raw chicken breasts and put them in a slow cooker and put the the lid on top. Plug it in and turn it to high. It will take about four 4 for chicken breasts on high--about 6 or 7 hours on low.
G'Afternon Miss Betty love the videos you and Rick put together ... And I'm heading out to Shannon's Farm our Local produce family... to get some Tarragon.. I have to try this.. I'll also pass by my Publix and check to see if they have the Savory Tarragon Chicken Salad and make a Side by Side Comparasion test lol.. BTW I add a pinch or two of Sugar to my Chicken Salad.. does something to the flavor of the mayo . Give it a try, Hey you never know Thanks again .Y'all have a Great Day, Larry

Mmmm this sounds so good! It has been so hot here in Southern California these past days! This chicken salad sandwich would be a delight in this warm weather. Thank you Betty for sharing your adventure to 815 Prime and making the sandwich.
I hope it's a free range chicken.
