OK that's it...I'm gonna have to order ALLLLLL the Sweet CD's online now. I can't stand listening on my comp anymore!!! Need to hear this and their other stuff LOUD!!!!
@uniquemum73 YEAAAAAAH BABY! CRANK IT? You can download it from Verizon ($15 per month unlimited) onto your pc and make cd's but it's always nice to have the sleeves to read.
This song and EVERY single lyric seems to relfect how I feel. Even the tune has that strange feeling of knowing exactly what it's trying to say. Most Sweet songs have that effect on me, and it makes me wonder if somehow these songs were all made for me, but I know they weren't.
The Sweet will always be my favourite band. Not just because they represent how I feel, but they bring me back to a time where I have never lived, and things were much better than they are now. Brian, Steve, Andy, Mick.
@Jadranko23 i know. you can see who ever it is holding a guitar at 3:16 behind the drummer and in other videos on the same stage he's there. he just looks like karl marx.
Queen, who are huge heros of mine, owe so much to the SWEET! If not for PAPA JO, CO-CO and so on, we would never have got those equally outrageous high harmonies that Queen are so famous for. On the flip side, Andy Scott certainly picked up lots from Brian. Two of the greatest rock bands ever! I wish they had a competition to see which band could hit the highest falsetto. I'm sure Roger Taylor could go a pitch higher than Andy Scott, but it is oh so close.....
Sweet Albums, especially UK versions were so hard to find. I think The Who did that too, having different songs for the UK verses the US release. I heard there's a real rockin' cut-and-dry no synth version of "Fox on the Run" on the UK version as well. I feel kinda deprived!
They were pretty miffed with Queen at one point...enough to put queen are a bunch of winkers on their album cover Give Us a Wink...they felt they pinched quite a bit of there vocal work and said nothing !
Brian May wrote this tribute when Connolly passed away;
"Very sad of Brian Connolly's passing. Although labeled GLAM at the time, The Sweet's productions were some of the very best of the period and definitely stand the test of time. R.I.P."
does anybody own this full edition of The Geordie Scene? Newcastle band Sandgate also appeared on it with Sweet, and I would love to be able to get a copy of their performance.
Sweet weren't a Glam band, they went through a Glam phase. They were more of a Rock/Hard Rock band that did other styles including Glam Rock as well. Breakdown is not a Glam song. It's more of a Rock song. It's from their Desolation Boulevard album (British version.
These guys were cool, regardless of image: a more successful version of ANGEL. The Gibson ES w/Bigsby reminds me of Alex Lifeson from those days. Hadn't heard this song in YEARS! thx for posting
omg....angel was cool... seen them LIVE in late 70's ANGEL had an incredable stage production.... songs i felt were best... by ANGEL Mirrors/Fellin alright,Bad time/tower/can u feel it/20th century foxs/ as for sweet.. ALL there stuff rocked.... AIR in the LOOP was awesum from level headed
Smoking Hot - Pre Metal !!! Thanks for sharing, this is ultra cool !!!! Judas Priest took some sounds notes from here for sure .... I like the metal sound they pursued here as they really rocked and still kept their pop sensibility alive.
Yeah, what he just said, plus-Wow, how did I miss this one? I love this period for them. They got heavier. It's simple, but effective. Very satisfying. I like Andy's thick Les Paul style bends and solos. "Rhythm of Love" is like that for him too. It's been like TEN years since I've loved discovering such a killer band! And Steve? The coolest dude EVER in rock. Syndrome477, this changed my life.
Let's do it in English ;) I'm not sure about that, possible that performance was after he has been beaten, as this is semi live - he sings but just following the matrix(?!), the mic. is on and at the end he salute the audience with "ta!" (Thank you!) which is common in British slang.
I SWEET ALWAYS HAD A HARD ROCK- HEAVY METAL SOUND EVEN ON THEIR 1st ALBUM. MANY BANDS HAVE TRIED TO COPY THEIR SOUND AND STYLE BUT NO BAND WILL EVER BE AS UNIQUE AS THE SWEET.
I've always loved the Sweet - they're excellent - but watching their videos on You Tube has given me a much greater appreciation of them. Top notch band and Andy Scott was just SO gorgeous!
Like an outtake from The Man Who Sold The World? There are similarities I guess. Interesting that Blockbuster and Jean Genie used the same riff but Andy said that was pure coincidence and since they were both released in the same week who could argue? Andy Scott and Mick Ronson had similar styles I guess.
Steve is the coolest dude ever...SWEEEEEEET!!!!!
