  • 3:36 I thought it was going to fall into the bay! That would suck so much!

  • so cool

  • how does the camera rig go up if it has no sail?

  • @pizzadudemandude It's attached to the string of a kite, which pulls the rig up into the sky.

  • That was awesome.

  • YES SEATTLE!

  • Why not use LEGO....

    Real Rocketscientist

  • i guees people will flame you for posting spam...

  • Why do we never get to see the actual kite?

  • You can see it at 5:24... it's just way up in the sky. The actual kite isn't as important as the rig; you just need a stable kite that can generate plenty of lift to haul your rig.

  • You're amazing Bre. That was the best.

  • Cool!

  • he sounds like napoleon dynamite

  • @piroclips I think he sounds like Nepoleons brother. Seriously, he burned his fingers drilling some light gauge aluminum??..........WOW!!

  • you can see the space needle at 5:33

  • oh yah, i see it

  • VEX ROBOTICS!!!! i love it! Bought it for $100, loved it ever since.

  • Hey you live in my area. I can show you how to mount a camera on a model airplane and do AP. I used a similar servo mechanism for snapping photos, but mainly just did video.

  • i think with the camera, he can work at google maps!!!

  • i bet he thought "Im fucked if this falls"

  • Awesome bravo!!!

  • "you'll just have to trust me; I've got lots of batteries in here" lol

  • The Canon Ixus is a great camera but id use the video function instead of photos!!

Plus I wouldnt use it near water.

  • thats totally in seattle, right up on kite hill

  • kill

  • yes i love vex

  • nice job.... great video 5/5..

  • you should also tyr adding a small light weight video camera thats attached to a seperate antena that projects on a t.v. which way the cameras pointing. that way you could know what ur taking pictures of

  • i was so gonna say that.

  • hell to the hell yeah, cool pics, beats renting a helicopter

  • You're in seattle?

  • Hey, How about in stead of just one chop stick make like a tri pod so when it lands you dont have to woory bout the camera

  • i bought it used hahaa

  • you got some pretty good pictures surprisingly.

  • I made one, and got some really nice photos of a swedish sunset :D

  • nicee !!!!

  • im listening to all your saftey concerns in your videos, and i realiz, i had to learn those the hard way. also, dont forget to lubricate the bit when drilling metal.

  • "You may notice I don't have a kite here. Well that's because I don't have a kite." lol

  • servos for the win

  • aewsomeeeee

  • You said that the camera rig was "maybe 200 feet up". i know that the normal flying limit in the UK for kites is 200 feet, so does this mean its different in America?

  • Would this work with a light camcorder?

  • There is a group of guys that tie disposable camcorders to ballons and they chase it till it lands to see all it recorded. I saw it on CNN I think. They probably have there own website

  • p.S. the links for the photoset don't seem to work... can you post them? :)

  • Great job! The photos were great!

  • What's the point? It does not show how to make the rig or the controller!

  • you right

  • that was a kool idea & the shots were great too

  • Why are you speaking so slow??? I hate that!

  • hook that up to a jib ar and wow look at what youl get im gonnna try that with a robot kit that i have(its not thes same but it might work

  • that looks deadly

  • wow!!! very cool

  • that was really cool... i think i'll try it out with my own vex kit =P

  • how much does a vex cost?

  • Bre's project he only needed a couple of servos and a controller so you may be able to save money by buying piece by pience. If you go to vexlabs[dot]com you can check it all out.[replace the dot with . when you use the url]. I hope this helps

  • Maybe fiberglass or plastic would work good too. A kite could be dangerous if the wind slowed and it fell on someones head. I want to make one that flies from a propeller and uses a video camera not a camera.

  • i'm definately building that

  • be cool for a video

  • nice sea-plane picture , maybe you should add a wireless tiny cam instead of that big huge camera???

  • Once again Mr. Pettis - Nice Job!

  • Nice photos of Gas Works park. That brings back good memories.

  • Fantasic! im going to go put a camera on my kite now!

  • BRE: I tried this idea out with a small change in plans. I used a plastic light weight frame for the camera. With a fixed point, worked out great for me. I have to get a subription to the magizine, my youngest child loves your video Pod Cast, even more than me, The wallet idea works great also, The book taped for sure works better. Best to be a tape snob if you do that project. Keep it up BRE.!!

  • that rocked! i made one and i use bluetooth and a camera with a video player and a labtop to send the video back to me =) to bad the bluetooth was only 40m =(

  • ow! ow! ahhaa, loved it

  • Bre is such a cutie and he's smart!!! i love the videos and your pod casts!

  • Interesting. Would have saved time to figure out that steel is heavy from the get-go. What about plastic ?

  • What's the big deal about a guy's gender preference in a technical project video?? What on Earth does it have to with the topic? I think those who keep accusing someone of being gay (or what ever),might have a few secrets they're not admitting to themselves...

Bre and the Make: guys are really talented people. Just celebrate that talent and try and get yours as productive.

  • was that a type of vex kit was that

  • Does this guy get laid?

  • Bre! I love this one. I might have started out with some kind of rigid plastic for the camera rig. Those erector set members seem a bit clunky. Man, this looks cool!

  • Excellent. Using an LED trigger is much more efficient. Crashing your kite & camera into the river (like I did today) is not.

  • LOL.. He burned himself by touching the metal he was drilling through. Well it's not funny that he burned himself but it is because as smart as he is he didn't know that both the drill bit and the metal he drilled would heat up.. .

  • If the metal is getting hot he needs a sharper drill bit and some lubrication. I have cut 200mm holes in 8mm aluminium and it dosnt get hot at all. As long as you use the right speed and the right bit for the material with lots of grease its fine...

  • So what if he is, hes still pretty smart and this is pretty sweet.

  • the dude sounds gay

  • so.... whats wrong with bein gay

  • The chopsticks are just the base or chasis to turn around the wires of the antenna.

  • Chopsticks? An antenna need to be metal to conduct!

  • a copper wire is rapped arround the chopsticks
