Great work and just wonderful technique. Superb large round pots - just out of interest what clay do you use and does it have any texture. Very little water in your throwing too. Cheers Gar
@free2throw Please watch my video post # 45. Throwing / Pulling / Lifting Cylinder step by step with Hsin-Chuen Lin. I might have answers for most of your questions if you have watched all of my 52 video clips.
Please type keyword "mypots.net" or "hsinchuen" to search the videos. They should be easy to identify because I have numbered all the videos.
I really am interested in your lifting technique, u use the natural tension of your wrist to apply pressure and allows u to concentrate on purely being steady, I'll have to try it! :D
I completed two of these forms. everyone at the studio is in aww. I havent glazed them yet thou, I wanted to know if you had any glazes that you could recommend for large pieces like this. Im not sure if the glazes we have will do it justice. thanks for you excellent videos I am a chatter-aholic
Beautiful form, beautiful execution! Thanks for letting us in on the process.
I have always wondered about throwing forms with that wide a belly. Do you leave the cylinder thicker in the middle section to allow for the amount of distance that you are going to stretch it, the way one leaves more clay at the rim of a bowl because it's going to get much thinner as you push it out to its final width?
@PotteryGarage Thanks for your comment. No, I don't leave the middle section thicker. Basically, I redistribute the clay during the shaping process, as you can see in this video when I close the rim I thin the clay repeatedly. Of course, the bottom part will be a bit thicker to withstand the gravity. Next time I will make a wide belly pot and cut it open to show people how I did it.

How would i solve this problem
Every time i place my hand inside a thin necked pot that i am throwing, my thumb tends to push the clay out and it makes it a little hard to pull.

How are you pulling the clay on the outside? The position of your hand? Are you using the palm of your hand, or fingers to pull clay?

@js74858 I think any kind of matt glaze will be good for the texture. I usually spray the glaze on the surface because it show the texture better.
