It's not fake. I've seen this kind of things before. I saw a sparrowhawk once eating a pigeon for a while and later on letting it go. Pigeon was missing a hughe chunk of his back, still it was alive. I dont know whether it survived, but it definitely was laive when sparrowhawk left it.

It is not fake, falcons always go for the head. This falcon was not that much hungry so he played with a gull a bit, then he was scared off and flew away. Sadly he should finish her of, she is dead anyway. The good think is that the falcon probably came back and had a full meal.

This is some great footage, that was captured here. I've been at this, for nearly 15+yrs now, and this Ring-Billed Gull was VERY lucky. However....This Peregrine Falcon, was smart to leave when it did. Granted this bird, probably won't survive long, with that much flesh exposed. But it just goes to show, Gulls are VERY tough birds. Where they lack "talons", they make up for, in extremely sharp strong beaks. The Falcon knows this, one jab from that beak in its eye, could blind it or even kill it.

Seagulls exhibit mobbing tactics which usually discourage these types of kills. If a gull is alone, the falcon can make this kill, otherwize the falcon would risk being mobbed by many gulls at once. No rganism is as survival-oriented than a gull.

It looks like a peregrine attacking a Common Gull which is smaller than a Herring Gull. Peregrine prey species are normally up to the size of a Woodpigeon, which is similar in size to a Common Gull. Female peregrine's are noticeably larger than males so this may be a female.
