be realistic in view, be independent-minded, be practical in action, don't assume. all that was intended to be understood about rosencrantz and guildenstern was communicated via hamlet. these two people uptop are harry and lily; they have nothing to do with the evil hopeful fantasy of power and advantage spurring friends on to betray a friend.
I don't agree with that intuition of death from birth crap! But I can't tell if he was just making the point of not remembering something so memorable?
If we analyze the acting, there's a number of subtle things Gary does to enhance the character of Rosencrantz.
For example, the way he smiles and blinks before saying "In childhood", it says that Rosencrantz had a very happy childhood, so happy, he still retains some of it in his persona.
And you start to wonder (well, I do, anyway) whether he might have had a not-so-great adulthood, perhaps causing him to nnot so much retain that persona, but perhaps revert to it instead.
I just love the fact that these guys could give so much depth and personality to two characters who are almost nothing in the original play. Brilliant!
hehehe, I don't know how to use torrent bu I'll check if they have it on VHS....I wanna see it, and IMDB gave it a really good rating....so it must be good
YES!!! You HAVE to see that movie! It's amazing. Download a torrent for it if you have to. That's what I had to do. I couldn't find it anywhere, either. I ended up buying it on eBay from Korea, though. =P
Yes it's a very good scene... this play dealt marvelously with memory and life. I also like the one earlier where they are talking about the first thing you remember.
Stoppard is a brilliant playwright and it seems like the film does the play justice (it's my fave play, so that's saying something ^_^). Now I just have to go out and rent/buy the movie.
Oh, you have definitely got to see this movie. Download it if you have to. I did, but I ordered it from eBay about a week ago cause I loved it so much. ^_^
Oh. Well, nevermind then. Haha. I haven't seen Dead Fish yet. I can't find many of Gary's movies considering most of them are VHS's and video stores hardly carry VHS's anymore. =/ I kind of stopped looking for his movies for a while, though, cause I'm so obsessed with R&G Are Dead. I've watched it about five times in the past week. Ha.
Thanks for the site. I doubt I'll be able to use it, though, considering it's more expensive over here. =/ I'll just stick to eBay. Ha.
Oh, hey, I just finished my first music video. Have you seen Immortal Beloved? I did it on that. It's still processing, but it should be ready to watch soon. =) Just felt like announcing that. Haha.
I haven't managed to get that dvd yet. I'm at work right now (they don't have the right downloads to play the videos) but I will give it a look when I get home! :)
You probably won't be disappointed with Immortal Beloved. Oldman is (predictably enough) absolutely brilliant in his portrayal of Beethoven. In fact, it's hard for me to imagine ANYONE else playing this role as well as he did.

Gary Oldman has such a wonderful presence on film. He's got a wonderful ability to speak with his eyes and that's quite rare for an actor.

Requiem! I got this movie off of amazon haha.
This monologue on death is one of the reasons Gary said he wanted to play Rosencrantz!

Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead is an excellent example of the genre theatre of the absurd. It can be very intellectually stimulating.
