  • spricket24 why are you doing this.

GAP exploits third world labour to make it's products so they can make more money and then act's like they care by being part of the RED campaign. either this is a vast understanding of GAP or a very funny dig at them not quite sure which.

    Don't fall into the GAP

  • you mean dont fall into the CRAP. sniggers.

  • ur an idiot----do you not know anything about (product)Red?

  • It's true, GAP is a pretty evil corporation. They just try to act like their not. Yet I'm still what my friends would call me a GAP boy and I myself own a few product RED things.

  • Comment removed

  • :)))

  • wow. I can't beleive you actually did this. You got curage, Girl. I'll give ya that.

  • I hope your being sarcastic...

  • Respect for you for doing this.

  • I...just got the perfect video idea from watching this >)

  • Aids is a bigger problem than just the tshirt sales can cover....especially where it's running as rampant as in Africa...no offense though

  • well we kno that it doesnt help all the way but there are other things that people are doing. and at least people are trying to help AIDS. im not saying your wrong, so dont think that.

  • Africa's problems run much deeper than money

sure something is better than nothing! Unfortunately my best advice "really" is to

Get the Hell out of There! Between violence,

AIDS, famine and drought not to mention political unrest, It's just too far gone to fix without a major world wide effort or

    a miracle.

  • there is more than enough money out there to solve poverty it sits in bank accounts making people "rich" - the cure to aids, cancer et all have been solved the powers that be make to much money saying it ain't - CHARITY STARTS AT THE HOME GOD PUT YOU WHERE YOU ARE TO HELP THOSE AROUND YOU, VOLUNTEER NEARBY, GIVE MONEY TO THOSE CLOSE TO HOME those responsible for the african plight will pay when they meet god.

  • "Product Red has been criticized for not having an impact proportional to the advertising investment and being much less efficient than direct charitable contribution and for having a lack of transparency with the regards to the amount of money going to charity as a percentage of every purchase." -wiki

  • Absolutely right ackquarius; tell it like it is!

(Spricket, you did a good thing promoting a good cause. Keep it up)

  • Spricket ain't no sell out. : )

  • the Gap has good products, but I recently found out they have sweatshops. so if you do promote to help fight AIDS, then you should promote to prevent sweatshops from opening.

  • There are indeed a lot of sweatshops in the Philippines and Southeast Asia where wages are pitifully low and the laborers mostly women are herded into cramped by male bosses into living quarters with virtually no access to health care or health information --- very ripe conditions for rampant HIV infections... it is not simply putting some profit into programs, but the brand names must start cleaning their labor and social policies

  • PONDERS... do the red thing..... HMmmM shiver ;)

  • I'm all for the cause, but you said something a little odd in this video: Does GAP actually use the phrase "for women and children?" Because I'm pretty sure AIDS affects men too... If they really use that phrase in their marketing it kinda seems like misleading attempt to tug heartstrings. (People seem to have more compassion for "the young or female".)

  • hm... i recently was doing this whole thing about how gap exploits its workers... guess theyve turned a corner

  • Wow, I kept waiting for the punchline and there WASN'T one....HOW CRUEL!!! jk

    Good cause, though!

  • hello.

why everybody jumping , this is false information to make million from this cheep shirt. STOP THE BAD IMAGE OF THE AFRICAN CONTINENT. IT SEEM TO THAT NOBODY CARE BUT AFRICA HAVE SOME OTHER PRIORITY.

MY COUNTRY HAVE ONLY 0.8 % OF THE POPULATION AFFECTED BY AIDS.LESS THAN SOME DEVELLOPED COUNTRY

  • You're a bit naive my dear...

  • A statement of praise to spricket! You have the power to make a difference, and you're actually using it. Keep it up!

  • I love you chica, and I know you mean well by this, but I don't agree with this-- I just don't think it's a genuine cause. Corporations like GAP that get involved with charities do it mostly for the publicity and profits: it gives them a good, "charitable" reputation. If you want to help AIDS sufferers, donate to non-profit organizations, not companies who pocket half the profit.

  • thank you for your well thought out and productive comment. I actually agree with you on this. But at the same time MORE people are going to take the easy way out to buy a product and get something in return than seek out an non profit to donate their money to. I guess I look at it more the glass if half full than half empty. Sure the Gap and other companies are making a profit on it-

  • but even a little big goes a long way so if half the profit can go to help this cause then I am all for it. Everyone has to start somewhere and for some people maybe it truly is buying a tshirt and then being made aware of the problem. :)

  • yea i agree, many people will say "what do i get out of it?!" and maybe this is the right choice for them. but still, not something i would do.

  • your genuine enthusiasm for making the world a better place really shines in this vid. don't let anyone discourage you from it. great job RED (you, not the promo)!

  • Wow, all you want for Valentine's Day is a T-shirt? What a cheap date - my kind of woman!

Let me know if you're ever in the Philadelphia area - I'll take you out to a fine Scottish restaurant called McDonald's!

  • More than anything, I hope Spricket is not discouraged by all the negativity and cynicism. So many seem so concerned about selling out or hypocrisy when the post seems nothing but open-hearted/sincere, so sincere it doesn't even work as a spoof of PSAs (Public Service Announcements), the genre which it clearly mimics. It's an honest impulse. Is someone guilty for wanting to take a swim? No. But one can get eaten alive if some psychos have stocked the pool with pirahna. Keep the faith, Spricket.

  • awareness video? ok, so be it, a cause is a cause. Although, isn't someone making a profit from it? Just checking.

  • Thanks for what you are doing. Raising awareness is still very important.

I will see you in SFO!

  • I just came back from Target and i had to buy a red sheet and a red scarf! You're messing up with my head! lol now i'm eating a tomato salad... mmm yummy

seriously this campaign is really cool... and all the people writing lame stuff sucks!!! do something better with your time!

  • why don't we help people in america or stop the war in Iraq or reduce the federal deficit

  • Honestly couldn't you pick one of the little guys to stand up for? ( like one of your biggest fans) Instead of Red that has Oprah and Bono already? kidding aside I am glad you did this because I thought RED ended at Christmas. I just bought a stuffed frog with candy hearts for my son's caregiver and she would rather have that Tee-shirt!

  • You son's caregiver sounds kind of finicky. She should be glad she got anything, in my opinion.

  • You are sooo right. She is a spoiled bratt but she hasn't quit so I love her anyways! It's hard to find good help. LOL

  • nice rack!

  • Spriketilious is my HERO.... Why not mention more companies that participate ..Apple, Target ect. ect.

  • I need to go RED.I really hate V day though.Nobody should be at war,the world should be helping Africa instead.

  • Yeah, when I'm searching for a legitimate AIDS charity to give my money to, The Gap always leaps to mind first. "Hey, while you're here, you need to buy a belt to go with that shirt! And how 'bout this cute hat? It's made in Africa!"

    Nice commercial.

  • I agree with you. Non-profit organizations should be supported if we really want to make a difference, not major corporations that pocket half the donation.

  • Hey where was that?? is it like a studio you made or something?

  • That is a cool shirt... I think I will go and buy one for myself!

  • Aww ur so sweet making this video! Such a kind soul <3

  • word.

  • what about all he aids in (please don't take offence if did or didnt list your contry) Tiawan, philipeans, netherlansds, sweeden, italy, greece. Why does everyone always fret over Africa? JUST Curious... peace.

  • you said "heart on". hahahahaha, sexy

  • Wow, pat yourself on the back. But we all know the only useful causes have rubber wristbands to show how deep you are.

  • Wow, pat yourself on the back. But we all know the only useful causes have rubber wristbands.

  • I love RED.

  • I heard that a few companies decided to go (red) and I thought that was real cool.

  • We can now ad philanthropist to your many fine traits. Karen. Geez, you're much too perfect. One simply doesn't encounter too many crazy, talented, charismatic philanthropists..See you in The City....

  • That shirt was manufactured for nearsighted fencers.

  • women and children in africa...why not men?

  • write a letter to the (RED)people and ask them.

  • ugh, 1st sign of selling out. you coulda incorperated this (red) thing into one of your funnyass vlogs, YOU USED TO BE KEWL MAAAN!

  • Yeah, next thing you know, she'll be doing ads for Secret deodorant! Oh, wait...

  • ugh, 1st sign of selling out. your better then this, you coulda incorperated this (red) thing into one of your funnyass vlogs, you sold out man...YOU SOLD OUT!(begins to cry)

  • Good for you !!

  • Cute top and a wonderful PSA.

    See ya next weekend

    Paul

  • The negativity and skepticism exhibited in so many of the comments here is a sad statement about the world in general I think. Sadly, there is a general distrust of others and their motives.

  • Spricket, notwithstanding arguments about corporate profits, consumerism, etc., all of which I agree with, I think it's great that your heart is in such the right place. I think those issues are details of a much bigger picture, and I thank you for helping raise awareness.

  • Is the fight against AIDS in Africa constrained by funding? I don't know, I'm just asking. There could be a lot of other factors in play that wouldn't be impacted by throwing money at them.

  • I love (red), but it was shitty acting.

  • LALA3170,

    HUSH....

  • get tested and use a condom!

  • i have the same shirt!

  • yeah, genius...eliminate AIDS in africa by buying a $45 dollar t-shirt ...just to make sure Gap still gets a profit after sending a small percentage of the cost to africa...truly f'ing brilliant....

  • you are making me BO(RED) and TI(RED). I just want to shop and feel like a good person.

  • WTF STFU peeps and do your own videos- IF the woman saw something she thought was a win for more than herself and she wanted to share that-good for her!

Please always post exatly what you want-I love it!

  • great vlog spricket, even better message, showing that your not just funny and talented, but you truly give a damn bout important shit in the world.

  • seriously, don't buy any (RED) products if you are down with this. You have the freedom and the choice to make your own decision. If you want to participate then GREAT! If you want to just donate cash instead of buying product GREAT! If you don't want to do either- it's your choice, man. I'm not telling anyone they HAVE to buy (RED) products.

  • You mean "seriously, don't buy any (RED) products if you are <b>NOT</b> down with this" right? Or am I a confused 40+ year old who can speak proper funk? :p

  • She may have meant "down ON this."

  • hahaha I don't know what I mean anymore... you guys are all giving me head pains... but don't buy the product if you are NOT down with it- YO! Word out.

  • this makes me NOT like her anymore

  • sugarbaby45 - valid opinion, of course - I'm just curious about WHY this one video would make you not like her anymore. I had the same initial reaction, in a way, so trust me I'm not bashing you in any way.

  • Why just Africa ? Russia's AID's rate is high also so is South America and Thailand.

  • Thank you for posting this. You are truly right that there are so many other plights we must be aware of as well as this one. :) I didn't pick "just Africa"- it's part of the (RED) campaign. I just bought the shirt and found out about and wanted to spread the word about this particular cause. Thanks, Karen

  • HAHA Come on, we have watched enough of your videos to know that you did not do this on your own.

You got paid. There is nothing wrong with accepting an offer to do a commercial online. I am sure every single person on this site would do the exact same if given the opportunity but there is no need to lie about it, no one is going to hate you for making a bit of cash, they will hate you for try to deceive them.

  • I didn't get paid. GAP doesn't even know about this video.

  • The plot thickens? hmmmmmmm

  • I actually think Ka(RED) probably didnt get paid by the GAP. But its obvious she wanted to make the vid as "tv spot" like as possible, for whatever reasons.

Still, distributing GAP buttons sounds kinda weird, even for sp(RED)ket24.

  • BOOOOO

  • I think that people should judge Karen for what she is - an artist. Artists are usually in a constant search of jobs and exposure.

I do believe her when she says that she doesn't get paid for this. She has other reasons for doing this.

Like James Blunt's says in his song - 'I'm out of my mind' - "I just need a stage to be seen", and I guess that's the whole point.

This is her channel. Her show. Her work. Her portfolio, if you wish to call it that way.

  • I think that if people don't realize that there's a forth wall here, then Karen is doing a pretty good job.

Currently, she has about 2640 subscribers.

So I guess YouTube is a pretty good stage, don't you think?

  • Spricket24 is getting paid by GAP

  • Red is most definately your color. :D

Nice job on the video. Views like a professional promo spot! (okay... almost...your just missing the $500,000 sound and video equipment! hehe)

  • I liked that sort of. For not a production team. That footage is perfect for a PSA commercial. It almost seemed that you had a teleprompter or lines going when you said some of that stuff. Really pro like. But I have been left with the impression that GAP stuff doesn't fit most women very well.

  • LOL! I have never heard of this and if it were true then why are they still in business? Maybe it's just a myth? hahaha- wait- how do you know it doesn't fit women well?

  • HAHAHA! Very funny. I'm supposed to be the only one making allusions to my supposed creepyness. How come you're better at making me look creepy than even I can? Not one on my fortes I guess.

  • Oh why? Cuz I did a promo for GAP and they gave us a whole wardrobe set worth like $150 for the guys and #175 for the girls because they all got hoodies. So all the girls were complaining at the fitting that they fit weird. Like the "curvy jeans" don't fit right. Maybe that was a cue to go in the fitting room with them and help them try out clothes. Hmmm...

  • The curvy jeans need to go on girls with curvys, like me, for instance. The curvy jeans are for real girls with hips, butts, and thighs! LOL! They are not for girls that are tall and lean other wise they do fit weird. The hoodies fit weird? That is odd- how can a hoodie not fit? Unless you have extra long arms or something. HAHA!

  • No! I meant the jeans it weird. Ohhh. Me and my sentence placement. Didn't PBS say something about looking at your hips, butts, and thighs once! LOL! Hey you said it not me. Haha curvys. I like that. HEY EVERYONE! CHECK OUT SPRICKET'S CURVYS. Oops. There I go again. Sowie.

  • Good idea.

  • Maybe next time you should just take that $20 you blew on looking trendy and donate it to the charity directly. You won't look as cool, but you'll make a bigger difference.

Sorry, I generally enjoy your videos, but shit like this drives me crazy. I'm glad people can feel good about themselves while engaging in mindless, consumer driven label whoring.

  • Great comment and right on target! :-#

  • I do regularly give to charity- and I give MORE than $20 bucks. If I want to buy a shirt that can actually help a really cool cause then why not?

  • Because it just makes you a tool of the machine to an extent that outweighs any small benefit to "a really cool cause". Consumerism sucks on so many levels I couldn't fit it all in, but I sent you a vid/response.

  • A tool of the machine? OMG! LOL! Dude- don't buy the shirt if you don't want to!! It's not that big of a deal. I shop at the Gap anyway! Really, it's no sweat off my back to buy a shirt and help out a good cause. I was going to buy the shirt anyway. :)

  • I'm amazed there haven't been more comments like the above. "Mindless consumer driven label whoring"? Oh Please! The amount of publicity something like this gives to serious problems is worth a lot. Buck fucktards like the above conveniently overlook that so they can spew their venom.

  • Publicity? Are people who shop at the Gap unaware of AIDS in Africa? I'm not here to spew venom, simply vent how people feel like they're getting involved only when it's convenient to them. Your intentions were good, spricket24, but the system was flawed. I bet you never expected these reactions though! And furthermore...

  • It's not a big deal. People are just more likely to give to charity by way of buying a product. Most people are fickle that way and want something in return. Like I said, I was going to buy the shirt anyway and was happy to see that some of the profit from that sale will benefit in some small way! :)

  • fucktards... nice. Venom? dantejones takes care of your illogical "publicity" argument. This is about selling clothes... nothing else. Just keep consuming, moe29 and the next time you're upset about Iraq (assuming u r) don't blame Bush... look in the mirror. Everything you buy is made and transported with oil!

  • You mean the food I eat is MADE of oil? EW. I need to rethink my diet.

    speaking of Bush...

  • Naw... just transported with it. I used to feel good about myself buying "organic" at whole foods, until I was made aware that once the environmental cost of transporting was factored in... that touchy~feeling "organic" product did more harm than good. That is in a nutshell the whole point I am trying to make.

  • This was a very good sub-thread - Davidthorough made some good points, but what do you mean "consumerism sucks on so many levels"? That is a pretty broad statement. But also, I can see what Karen is saying too, if you're going to buy a shirt why not also help a good cause in the process.

  • At least a company like The Gap is doing SOMETHING about a big problem. Is it the be all end all? No, but it's something. Now Spricket has done SOMETHING. All you've done is demean others because they don't meet your loftly standards. Why not be supportive and positive?

  • The only one in this discussion who was demeaning was you moe29, how did Davidthorough demean anyone?

  • This is just so ironic.

I guess the the way to hell is indeed paved with good intentions.

  • Geez Spricket I donated to "The One Campaign" which was the world concert that they had last summer. I guess I could dig a little deeper to help out The Gap? Although helping out a corporation seems a bit much when I can donate all of my money to the cause. Let's see 50% goes to Aids. Why not 100%?

  • You can do that, too if you want. :) It's not a big deal. I'm not saying you HAVE to go and buy a shirt. I'm just letting you know about it.

  • LOl, not trying to jump on your cause actually all things considered it is a worthy cause if the people need something in return to help them justify purchasing the product. Thanks for the information. You are wonderful. Oh and btw, I enjoy your videos.

  • You have the cost of materials, cost of labor, the cost to ship it from Africa to all the Gap outlets across this great nation, each store's individual cut and then whatever the Gap Corporation makes in "profits," half of that goes to an "AIDS charity." I've worked for non-profits and if half of the money goes to the actual "cause" than you've got a pretty reputable charity, the highest I've seen them get to is 70%. So, essentially, 1/4 of the Gap's profits MAY get to an actual charity.

  • Cool shirt, great cause.

  • Go girl!

  • Red goes faster

  • I love your <3

  • i like the message! you're hot!

  • Good one Karen

  • ok ok now you are saving the world,So when are you gonna announce your plans to run for president? You would bring so much fun to them boring state of the union speaches.

  • you are a talent and your videos just get better and better ... i always look forward to them. thanks.

  • Great idea for a video, Karen! I'm glad you took the time to make it!

  • You are going to be in San Francisco? Wow, that's quite far from where you're at now, which is in one of the Dakotas, eh?

  • im not educated on the subject enough to comment whether bluebagger is correct or not. But what I do know is you're at least trying to do a good thing here. And thats commendable

  • Send that to Gap and I'm sure you'll be their next thing. Seriously.

  • Problem is Karen that the gap employs thousands of underpaid workers in regions where AIDS is rife leaving the locals with very little money for the things that stop the spread of HIV or to allow proper treatment of AIDS so the best way to stop the spread of AIDS is to not support companies that blatently rip off underprivelaged people. You look hot though!!

  • Even if this is still the Gap's current policy and this is just a bs pr campaign, if the money actually gets there, then it's something the average person can do to help and therefor a positive step. Corporate reform is a whole other battle.

  • I wholeheartedly concur.

  • This ROCKED. Good job, girl. LOVE the deep red shirt (fan of cool shirts). Wonderfully spoken, Karen. This was awesome of you. Way to use your skills to spread the word. +5 and faved.

  • If you take everything off I will donate. LOL

  • You wouldn't want to see what was under my clothes... I have had 10 kids by 10 different husbands...

  • Oh, bless you... Uhh,--what?

  • Okay, so hold on, is that ten marriage proposals and divorces since you've been on youtube or in your short life in total?

Lol, I am sarcastic way too much.

  • niggers are the cause of aids, lets kill all the niggers.

  • With my beer belly I would not look good in a shirt like that but it was nice for you to do this.

  • Wow, sounds like you really want to get HI(RED) to do commercials for the GAP.

btw is Mr. Safety ghey? Is that why the meet up is in Fantabulous Frisco?

  • Yup, we 700,000+ residents of San Francisco are all gay, all the time, and can't wait to convert all the YouTubers headed here for the big event.

    </sarcasm>

    *sigh*

Cool stuff, Karen! Sorry I won't be in town for the big meetup. Those of you headed here will find out just why SF is "fantabulous" and I hope we make you feel very welcome.

  • Didn't GAP used to use sweatshops? maybe they don't anymore. Anyway, nice of you to raise awareness! love ya hun! <3

  • YGG

  • Yeah but what about the kids that have to make them?

  • well there are millions of AIDs orphans...

  • Hi Karen! I just do hope that this video will be featu(RED) and that you will be admi(RED) by all YouTubers for doing this!

    ♥Ya!

    mako ;]

  • WOW thanks for saying that! The more people I can get to buy (RED) stuff the more money that goes into fighting AIDS in Africa! ;) Karen

  • Good for you for making this vid Karen. Everything helps. Heart to you.

  • I heart you the most Jeff. :)

  • Think u just sold me on buying some of that RED gear, I passed on it over Thaksgiving when I saw it at the GAP at Times Square!...But you''re that convincing!

  • Sprint is doing the same thing with their Powe(RED) phone.

DArn, I am not getting paid either.

  • :)

  • saw this red thing on t.v.

  • (RED) is great cause, Karen, and how awesome that you're helping to spread awareness. I will be purchasing more (RED) products, and encourages everyone to do the same. If Gap isn't your thing, there are other (RED) related products. Visit the (RED) website for more information.

    Bravo Karen! :-)

  • Can you please post the link PBS? I was not aware of the fact that they had a different web site! :) Karen

  • I've tried, but YouTube is not allowing me to post the link here in the comment section. The movement is called "Join Red" - do a search on Google and it should be the first result.

In fact, Karen, they have a section on their website called "Video Wall" where they accept submissions of videos from supporters of the effort. This video would make an excellent addition. :-)

  • They dooo???? Hmmm I have to check that out baby!

  • karennnnnnnnnnnnnn, lovely as always, u should get paid though :P. i'd buy a shirt but we dont have gap here. we dont have money either. we dont even have africa here!

  • ok i will!

  • I never said "cure". :) For more info on what the GAP and other companies are doing to help the effort than follow the links in the info! Thanks a lot! Karen

  • You're going to be at the San Francisco meetup? Holy cow! How'd you swing that?

  • You are asking me how I swung going to San Fran as if I'm NOT ALLOWED to go...? LOL! I can do whatever I want BABY! LOL! Karen

  • Spricket24 is actually the callsign of your private jet isn't it?

  • Hey! Don't get all snippy with me and stuff... Geez! Less caffiene! :) I just meant that since you're TWO THOUSAND miles away, it seems quite the thing to make that kind of trek for YouTube. I could have made it to the LA one in the time I had, but didn't 'cause I had to work the next day at 7am. Coming from the Midwest is quite the journey!

  • Oh...come on Karen it's time to fess up. Your actually independently wealthy aren't you? That house you have shown us is just a prop! Lol

Hey I am like 3 hours from SF... hmm...

  • I think anyone can go but I imagine YouTube might be funding the travel for some. I don't know how else everyone who is going could afford it.

  • To clarify, what I mean is that some folks who have basically said they are poor or have money are scheduled to be there. So, apparently they have found the funds to go. I am sure many or most YouTubers can afford to go.
