this is the best song for up in cummin youngins... i feel the soul is also a window to music...my fav..part would be....he who makes kittens, also puts snakes in the grass, he's a lover of life, but a player of pawns...
Genius drumming. Genius. The high hat work alone smokes all modern day drummers. Barrie was a pioneer and is the greatest drummer ever. Modern day drummers rip him off on a consistent basis.
I was 8 years old in '74 when I first heard this song and to this day, I still have an appreciation for it. A great classic. Who ever thought that a flute would be so successful in a rock band?
@klr1966 me too kir...we're the same age. I owned the 45 record when it came out! it is absolutely still one of my favorites...I can't hear it enough!!
Pop Music has devolved miserably. Tull's a glowing example of the originality and depth that flourished in the 60's and 70's when a real cultural revolution was brewing.
You can sell a million now, without knowing how to play an instrument or even be much of a singer. It's not about being stuck in the past - it's about being smart and discriminating enough to appreciate music that's about something besides getting paid and laid.
Tull, Beatles, Led Zep - they weren't just posers...for real.
@pyannaguy oh go away...the 60's and 70's had a lot of crap and disposable garbage and you have absolutely no idea about today's music beyond what you hear on commercial radio...another OLD FART commenting on a world that has past him by...I love how all you Boomers were gonna change things and now youre as backwards and bitter as your own parents were...putting down the present and the young generation-what an original concept!! It never ends...sad
@sixsixxsixxxx I'm not putting down a generation - YOU are. I was talking about Popular music. How would you know what I have 'absolutely no idea' about? I didn't say ALL the music was pure brilliance or that ALL the music now is crap. Speaking of backwards and bitter: Read YOUR snotty comments, again - more closely like you DIDN'T read mine.
The world has "past" me by? Learn how to spell before you characterize people you don't even know. Now, go do your homework.
@pyannaguy damn right brother! i was born in '72,not that old, but one thing is for sure, artists like you mentioned, plus a whole lot others, the who, cocker, three dog ngt.,floyd, the list goes on and on, we will never hear anything that comes close to that again.i have 2 bros. 3 yrs. either side of my age and 3 more sibs. born '56-'58, and i grew up w/ their tunes.first song i knew, dom mclain amer. pie @ 3-5yrs. old.throw willie/ waylon, and cash in there too

sounds a bit too high for Ian's repitoir but that could just be the way the recording has come out. But still amazing stuff.
