    I weigh 175 and I can do 225 for 5 on the incline, which is 50 pounds over my bodyweight. 315 to 260 is 55 pounds over bodyweight.

  • This guy seems to go all the way to his chest no problem. But other vids emphasize not going to far. I go all the way down to the chest on this but im wondering if i should be watching my depth for injury sake. if i do plenty of warmups for my elbows and shoulders i can go all the way but at times i do feel some unneeded stress. idk

  • @bdoyle23 I wouldn't recommend anything other than touching the bar to your chest, especially with heavier sets. No matter how slow you lower the bar,"catching" the weight, or stopping 3/4's of the way is more damaging than a full rep. Plus you're not properly stretching the muscle if you stop before you touch. Watch videos of Dorian Yates doing incline presses for an idea of the best way to do them.

  • @mh6041 I'm really not sure you even watched the Dorian Yates video. When he talks about bench press, he's more or less saying lots of different things work. I don't touch my chest on the bench, but I can do 315 on the incline. I've never touched it to my chest in the last 3 years since I got serious. However, touching it to your chest is not a BAD thing, bouncing it is, though. Also, I'm 6'2 so my arms are longer than most. So, fora 5'6 guy, touching it might be better.

  • @mh6041 It's all about what works for you. If I were to go all the way down, with my arm length, I would damage my shoulder. Hence I stop about 1-2 inches before the chest. But really it's not smart to be prescribing a "this works for everyone's bench press method, so touch it to your chest." You could inadvertently mess someone's workout up by saying that's the ultimate bench press. It's all about your own body and your body is different than another person's body.

  • @mh6041 Think about this: I'm 6'2 and say I've got another 2 inches of reach than Joe Shmoe. Does that mean Joe Schmoe can't work out his chest as well because he doesn't have 2 inches of reach? No. Also, if I stop 315 before I hit my chest, and lift it back, does that mean I'm putting dangerous stress than a guy benching 350 who touches his chest? No. The elbows and shoulders can handle a LOT of weight on the bench presses and if your form is good, you should be fine.

  • @mart2224 I'm just going by experience from what I've seen and done. I've trained for football 9 years and recently started more of a body building style workout. And in my experiences, stopping a weight before you go a full ROM is no good for elbows and shoulders. JA friend used to avoid touching his chest and was complaining of shoulder pains, as soon as he started doing a full ROM, he was fine. He is also 6'2".

  • @mh6041 It's kinda crazy though because if I start doing full ROM it hurts my shoulder, but once I cut it back by an inch or two I was good. It's really all about what works well for you and feels natural for your body. For me, and I'm talking strictly about the incline because I stopped doing flat often, it's just too much on my shoulder to have that full ROM.

  • @mh6041 Look even if you use your chest to stop the thing, you're only supposed to barely touch it to your chest anyway. Even full ROM you should be emphasizing stopping it on your own, not using your chest for 15+ lbs of relief.

  • @mart2224 , mh6041 wan't just giving me unsolicited advice. i posted a comment on here basically just to get a discussion going. and he was cool enough to offer his opinion. and thank you too for adding alot to the discussion. i am also tall, 6-1 and i think you are right about the arm length and in the point, that you must listen to your own body. thanks for your input too. i only been lifting a couple years so i been trying to get as much information as i can and then form my own methods

  • @bdoyle23 Totally! I just had to chime in because sometimes people will give advice and say things like, "You cant get results if you dont do x, y, and z" which at times can be totally wrong and if you're new to lifting might mess things up. There are lots of ways to get those results. There are 6'2 guys that can do the full ROM and there are guys like me with super long arms who can't. So i wanted to make sure you didn't think the ONLY way was full ROM for you. Take care!

In this situation it didn't really matter cause he had a spotter but theres been plenty of time when i go for that extra rep and can't hit it and nobodys around. All you can do is tip the weights over and let them slide off. other than nice lift tho

    That is the craziest thing I've ever heard. Every bodybuilding article I've read pertaining to lifting says that its a good idea to use clamps, specifically so that the weight "doesn't" fall of the ends. In just about all gyms, its required, and at home, I'm not damaging my floors by chancing dropping 45lb weights on them. I only ignore clamps when Im warming up and I have 100% confidence in the lift, which makes this guy a BEAST

  • @chrisdotwynn At my gym your not required to use clamps, no buddy uses clamps. Im assuming most gym they have the mats all over the place so damaging the floor isn't an issue. Its saved me plenty of times not using clamps lol

    Well, I can understand that using clamps can be a bit time consuming, having to constantly pull them on and off when you are going up and down in weight. I just always use them unless I'm warming up or doing some moderate reps with like 185. If I'm going heavy, then its clamps all day for me,lol

    2) i took creatine a few years ago, i noticed instant results, one day you did 8 reps the other 12 etc. Once i quitted creatine all my "results" fade away. I was eating the same. It was not a diet thing.

    3) THe point of training is train the body and the mind. Creatine is not a suplementation like vitamins or protein shakes. No, it's cheating. It whould be like someone injecting himself extra red cells loaded with oxigen in their blood stream to win a marathon.

  • @tlast2O12dude The results dont fade away if you lift weights with creatine and start at 215 and finish maxing out at bench at 300 when you stop taking it you will still be able to do 300. The only thing is you wont be able to get gains as fast without creatine like you get with it.
