@kallejularbo and @jesteria78: you are absolutely right: finns have no reason to appreciate russians, neither have russians to appreciate germans, neither red indians white men nor anybody anyone, except for one reason: we are all humans and only got one live. let's live it, together, killing each other is an option for those with suicidal tendencies....bless you psycho miko...
what an amazing show, the russian sergeant has a stunning voice, it must have been them who ended the cold war, pure joy of life, just having fun together, not interested in origin or any politics, just being human beings together, thanks so much for posting!!!
Gotta love these guys for doing this even when the relations between russia and finland were really sensitive ! These kinds of things prevent wars I'm telling you ! All this happened 11 days after my third birthday. Oh what I would give to be there~
@Heliotypon... try to not have such a closed mind. Think of how many people who've never heard of the Red Army Choir who now witness how good they are. Not to mention the goodwill this type of event generated post glasnost when some were suspicious of the Russian motives. PLUS, the same people are exposed to "Dorogoi dlinnoyu, The Long Road", and the English version written by Gene Raskin. A LOT of good came out of events just like this.
@almostavgjoe Yeah... Also consider the relationhip between Finland and Soviet was always somewhat strained - so a post glasnost event like this had alot of importance, the countries met as friends.

It is a shame for the glorious red army to be part of this ridiculous "performance", with the ludicrous Lenningrad Cowboys jumping around like apes! Shame!
I wonder, why they wrote about "Those were the days" "trad./Raskin". It's not a traditional folksong (trad.), it was written by Boris Fomin (music) and Konstantin Podrevskiy (russian lyrics) and Gene Raskin only wrote the new english lyrics. Why is he always named as the composer (sometimes even as a copyright owner)?
But anyway: It's an awesome performance, wish I could see the Leningrad Cowboys and the Red Army Choir live on stage.
theyre not russian... as far as i understand they make mockery of russian-finnish ties, which have been tense. and to some part, make mockery of russians perhaps. but now that the cold war is over, they are instead a bonding force. I mean, look at their version of pretty fly for a white guy, if that's not an icebreaker to tense ties, nothing is. also, in finland, russians are not often regarded in the best of ways... I find it courageous that they dare to encourage acceptance and cooperation.
