It's all about character, courage and music appreciation. Though now 30, when 17 I was in the same boat and largely alone in it. Still love Steely Dan just as much now as then, and radio manages to suck now more than ever. A humorous aside I learned years ago; have you heard where they took their name from? I'm no obsessive "fan" of anything (though i did play the hell out of some Zeppelin years ago); the music hasn't changed and I've only gotten better. It's all about the mood these days and Steely Dan still sets it just as well as ever, with a hint of nostalgia... ;-)

Otis Redding wrote (and originally performed) the song 'Respect.' But I believe the sign was a reference to the fact that SD would often substitute the line 'that's Aretha Franklin' with 'that's Otis Redding' when performing the song live.
