I love your stuff, Becky!! Can't get enough... Your musical taste reminds me of my son's taste (a stunningly handsome and talented 20 year old drummer, btw!!! check him out on youtube... Drew Salzman drum solos). He LOVES all 80's music, especially the "Hair Bands" like Def Leppard, Motley Crue... huge Malmsteen fan (... and he's a nice Jewish boy! "oy vey" lol!). I watched you sing another Dan song last night... wickedly soulful. You're terrific!!
It's all about character, courage and music appreciation. Though now 30, when 17 I was in the same boat and largely alone in it. Still love Steely Dan just as much now as then, and radio manages to suck now more than ever. A humorous aside I learned years ago; have you heard where they took their name from? Pretty obvious once you've been told....
No Naked Lunch reading for me, I admit. And as for teenage music, why shouldn't we still cherish it? I'm no obsessive "fan" of anything (though i did play the hell out of some Zeppelin years ago); the music hasn't changed and I've only gotten better. It's all about the mood these days and Steely Dan still sets it just as well as ever, with a hint of nostalgia... ;-)
I knew that Otis Redding said he wrote a song that a lady-(Aretha?) stole from him.(That was on the Jimi Hendrix\Otis Redding Live at Monterrey album).
Otis Redding wrote (and originally performed) the song 'Respect.' But I believe the sign was a reference to the fact that SD would often substitute the line 'that's Aretha Franklin' with 'that's Otis Redding' when performing the song live.
You're a teenage girl of the millenium singing 80's songs. You must be some kind of a reincarnation of someone who died somewhere in the 80's :) You make me very happy.
Found you by looking for Hey 19 videos (my fave pre-2000 Steely Dan song).
Funny comment about Aretha Franklin knowledge.
You should listen to your own lyrics: "Get a little lower now". You need to lower that darn camera a couple of inches for the benefit of your male readers. Right now, it's pure tease. Looks like you are packing a punch, though.
My male fans will just have to use their imagination.
I don't really take requests, but I haven't done any post 1980 Dan, so I'll think about it. I was actually thinking of doing "Babylon Sisters" tonight.
Stunning, Luminescent, Radiant, Elegant - (Thesaurus Results) Ambrosial, Pleasant, Charismatic, Fascinating, Enchanting, Graceful, Delightful, Luring, Angelic, Perky, Adorable, Rare. But Radiant... just stands out, verbally. I think Radiant will do best. Room is brighter when Phen is on...
It's fantastic to see that list without the word "cute" tainting it. I think "fascinating" describes me better than "angelic" though. If heaven exists, I probably won't end up there. :P
I'm 16, douchebag. :P And in case you didn't read the info section on this video, I say "Then again, I'm not even nineteen myself, so being senile isn't the case for me at the moment." Read the info, people!
I'm not a brat. I wasn't dragged around with an army family. :P
"Brat" is just an expression, didn't mean to offend you :), as in I'm glad there's younger people who rather sing The Who to Christina Aguilera, hence, revelious, hence brat. Again, I meant no offense, Im a fan of your videos.
I hope you celebrated with some Cuervo yesterday.

It's always lovely to hear that people still cherish their teenage music. And yes, the radio is still dismal.
Of course. I think every Steely Dan fan has read Naked Lunch.

As someone below noted, this video at 1:05 makes this a classic for sure. Always good to see somebody dig this tune as much as I have over the years.
I wonder if Steely Dan thinks about the fact that the girl who was 19 at the time they were singing this song to her on the radio is now 48 years old.

1:05 was a moment of madness. Just clearing that up.

You've got style.
I don't think there is anyone else like you on YouTube.
How did you get familiar with these tunes?
Do they play them on Scottish radio?
TheKnightSky 3 years ago
I don't listen to the radio, it really sucks these days.
I find things by obsessively scrounging through record shops. In the case of Steely Dan, Yacht Rock also came into the equation.

I didn't know who Aretha Franklin is until a few moments ago. Please don't shoot me :(
As always, lovely performance.

Hey Dickheads...
RELAX.. she's just 16-years old.
I dig her too (for her sudo-maturity and taste in music), but she is still a young girl.
Maybe it's because I'm from the US of A, but whe should still show some respect and decency for one who takes the time to entertain the masses
K- You keep up the great vids.
