Lockdown was the style the Swans played from 2004-2006 that gave them success. Where they maintained high possession and defense. They'd create heaps of stoppages and tackled hard. In 2007-2009 they slowly got found out and sides scored quick off them and that style was dead.
This year they're playing better and maintained decent defense so will do alright

hey guys the rivalry isnt over, we had a 5 point classic this between the two clubs and a 5 point classic last year so dont forget next year its a must watch. eagles are a rapidly improving side after winning 4 of their last 5 in 09 including 2 finals teams such as bulldogs and bombers and they smashed the tigers 125-45 without 8 of their best players for most of the season, the eagles are coming!
As much as I begrudged the Eagles for winning that match, looking back I gotta say we deserved to win one each. We were the two bet teams by far and every match was an epic. I'm just pissed off it didn't all last longer. 05 and 06 were way more exciting than watching Geelong flog evryone in 07 and fall short in 08...

Both finals were so close and nail biting and I can guarantee both sides of fans would've gone through hell and back in both games.
It deserved to be 1 a piece but you can see how there was nothing in it and it could've easily been back to back premierships for both teams.
Truly epic stuff and Adam Hunter/Embley/Chick played unreal. Hall went missing that game.

In 05 Swans really played ugly lock down footy and Weagles nearly broke it apart in that 3rd quarter. Epic stuff.

what ru on about the only teams that beat the eagles at subiaco this year were collingwood geelong (and dockers in 2 derbies...) and st. kilda and we're only 2 games out of the 8 this year...

Fullsey. why the hell r u watching this if you dont go for the west coast eagles? have u seen their team?the average age is like 22 and they r awesome. subiaco is the graveyard, house of pain, its a fortress in 2 years nobody will be able to come close to them at subi. look at their midfield, its filled with stars and future stars! Kerr (star), Cox (star) , A.Selwoodd, S.Selwood, Naitanui (wonder kid), butler, ebert, houlihan, lecras, masten, priddis (star), shuey, mcnamara, swift, and rosa WCE!

hey guys the rivalry isnt over, we had a 5 point classic this between the two clubs and a 5 point classic last year so dont forget next year its a must watch. eagles are a rapidly improving side after winning 4 of their last 5 in 09 including 2 finals teams such as bulldogs and bombers and they smashed the tigers 125-45 without 8 of their best players for most of the season, the eagles are coming!

As much as I begrudged the Eagles for winning that match, looking back I gotta say we deserved to win one each. We were the two bet teams by far and every match was an epic. I'm just pissed off it didn't all last longer. 05 and 06 were way more exciting than watching Geelong flog evryone in 07 and fall short in 08...
Awesome teams are all well and good, but awesome rivalries are what's needed to make sports classics.

im from the USA and just getting more and more into the game, and the entire time iw as watching this (even knowing who was gonna win) the knee was bouncing out of anxiety the entire time .... so wish this game caught on state side more; we would love it here.

exactly. the point of the 5 min warning is probably to create that uncertainty. it makes the game more intense, and the 05, 06 grand finals 5 min warnings were perfect!

um...stick it up the vics?? this is what annoys me, the swans r the sydney swans, not south melbourne, they were sydney swans when they couldnt win a game then when they started winning theyre a melbourne club again, vics can go fck emselves :) and yeh good game, eagles n swans have a good hard n fair rivalry probably the best in modern footy as far as equality goes, swans fan when they couldnt string 2 wins together, swans fan when they lost, and still a fan :) go the swannies!!!

I'm a collingwood supporter myself but I was so happy that west coast won this. On a beautiful sunny spring day.. it was tight, it was one of those grand finals where your heart is racing and everything. Along with the '66 grand final that was decided by a point. Wow unbelievable stuff.
