This poor ride has been in "standing but not operating" status for over two years here in Louisville. I see it all the time-lots of wildlife growing around it. I rode it in Gurnee and my son rode it here!
This was my favorite there. Too bad they took it down. Actually, I was on it one time when it broke; just came to an immediate backward halt in the station on its return. Such a simple design but a really great ride.
This was one of my favorites. Once in 86, we went to MGA in Oct on the last day of operations. Since it was cold the park had hardly anyone there. They let you ride tidal wave until more people got in line. I think we went 6 or 7 times in a row!
I remember a shortcut in the queue as soon as you'd exit under the back spike - we would use that all the time if they didn't let us stay on.
I really hope a US park buys it. Astroworld's has been in storage since '06 as well - these are fantastic coasters that provide high thrill with a small footprint. I hope they both get a new home soon.
I agree. Very small footprint, you could put this ride on a border of the park. Great America should put it in again. Think of all the nostalgic visitors the park would see. I would be one of them!
@GT1004 it would be awesome if Great america put this back in! the station and all the footers are still there too. the park actually still has the gates from the station in the maitnence area too
I was lucky to visit California's Great America in '02 to finally compare them. Amazing what they still have from the Marriott era.....the skyride alone was worth it!
I assume you've been to greatamericaparks(dot) com
my earliest memory as a kid was the lights along the 'wave" changing direction and color as the train headed backwards at night.. red to white? great memories
Wow! Thanks for the memories! This was my ultimate favorite ride back in the day. I was sad and mad when they took it down. Batman ride is good though. Glad they have the V2, although it doesn't loop, but is similiar and it goes twice instead of one round.
This music is apparently from Mariott's Great America's Commercial and I so love watching a lot of old school theme park TVCs since I am able to get some great finds there so often, just when I am acting like a mouse potato about them.
Mariott's Great America had a pretty nice tagline truly made my heart move. "Smile On Your Face" =)
i wish they hadnt tahen out so many rides...

Fortunately, it so far has survived all its move's and a park closure at Kentucky Kingdom. If we are lucky, Ed Hat will let it stay and run it again!

This used to be my favorite ride back when I had a season pass back in 1983. This, the Edge and the Demon were the three rides I went on the most.

Didn't know that, thanks for the info. Incidentally, could you imagine what people in 1980 would have done if Batman was introduced back then?!?!?!

With all the digital handycams out there nowadays, it makes you wonder what kind of camera they had to film that. Thanx for the memories!!!!!!!!!!!

This was filmed with a super 8 movie camera. Film not video tape.

Amazing video! This has to be from 1981, Eagle is visible in the POV.

How long did the Eagle take to build? If it were 1980, could the lift hill already have been by then?
CheeseheadDave 3 years ago
Eagle was beginning to be built at the mid-end of the 1980 season.
