  • The castoratos of that days could have been like him. Fast, strong, and with accuracy! Bravo thousand times!!

  • stupenda voce

  • tres extraordinaire ...

  • Divin

  • Wonderful

  • Wow, what an amazing voice!

  • Oh, Philippe, you surprise me all the time with the beauty of your voice!!!

  • non è castrato! è un controtenore!

  • I think if you like Jaroussky, that's all that's important ...It's all about personal taste.

I think it's best to keep an open mind, as snobbery of any sort just shows one's narrow-mindedness, immaturity, and insecurity. If I don't care for someone, or something, I just move on until I do...I once heard a wise saying that every no is closer to a yes!

  • @stellartunes What snobbery, narrow-mindness, immaturity and insecurity you mean here? Is it all about Philippe Jaroussky? To whom you appeal? If you don't care for someone you can move on to whatever or whoever you like but it doesn't mean that people who hear that it's not real operatic style but just singing classical stuff in falsetto in a cheap pop manner can't express their honest opinion here! if the majority are brainwashed by promotion somebody should say:"The emperor has no clothes'!

  • @serenaluce Your tone is exactly what I refer to, "in a cheap pop manner" come on, that's pretty scathing...cheap? If you said, "He's not my style" that would be different, your vitriol says more about you than Jaroussky. If you read some of the other posts, you'll see what I'm referring to. Be kind, the world is harsh enough.

  • @stellartunes Yes, world is harsh enough, I agree:). But actually, I'm very civilized and kind enough in comparison with others who just insult him:). But you think that PJ is kind enough to all his collegues with whom he just cheats to have an unfair advantage? If it were presented in the honest way like "classics in modern interpretation" I wouldn't be scathing at all and would say that it's not my style but it's OK as pop if people like it.But he's presented as real CT and to do with CASTRATI

  • @serenaluce I hardly think that PJ is 'cheating' anyone. If you know him personally and he slighted you, that's different. But referring to him as 'Cheap' is casting judgement and still not kind. I'm here to enlighten, as my point is not about the music particularly, but the judgement of it. Must we label everything? I think we all have many facets to ourselves, and to categorize simply creates limitations. I know when someone says something mean spirited about my work, it's more of about THEM.

  • @stellartunes Oh no, I don't know PJ personally and comment only on what he does on stage in this video and others. I don't want to quarrel with you as you sound like a very nice, kind person thinking better of the others in general though a bit nuisanse with your scientific and personal approach but it's LIVE MUSIC!:-) You have your own opinion of me as, of course, what people write here says much about them!:-) Actually, I'm here not to enlighten but first of all express my OWN opinion of THIS

  • @stellartunes So, my point is that , of course, there are no castrati anymore and we can't recreate fully how they sounded, but there's a big difference BW singing this stuff as a classically trained CT with proper TECHNIQUE, depth of interpretation, having all 3 well-developed registers and not only singing in falsetto on high notes, breath control and singing it superficially in a POP style like PJ does it here and Haim behaving too.I expected serious art as it's presented but this is just POP

  • @serenaluce saying I'm a nuisance? I'm disappointed you said that, Nicholas. If you feel so strongly about PJ's misrepresentation, why don't you contact him directly and discuss your views. Set the record straight with him, as I'm sure he would like to have spirited discussion with you, as the Counter Tenor world is a small one. Good Actions give strength to ourselves and inspire good actions in others~ Plato.

  • @stellartunes What are you talking about? Why do you call me Nicholas? If you read something on my channel it says that my name is Yana. I'm a woman. Are you sure you are on the right video? What is it to do with the Countertenor world? I'm just a fan. Why should I contact artists whom I dislike and discuss something with them? It's only an exchange of opinions on YT. I can't stand e.g. Bartoli either. Her crazy fans sent me to the doctor but nobody so far to contact her directly if I dislike:-)

  • @serenaluce Your channel looked like it was Nicholas Spana's! It has Spana's face quite prevalent, so you can see how it can be confused.

Anyhow, I still think it's important to be kind, and constructive rather than using words like 'cheap' and 'nuisance' which is insulting. Why spend energy on hating something when you can spend energy on something more positive, and making the world a better place. Be kind. people will think higher of you.

  • @stellartunes OK, I understand now. I thought you took me for perhaps your somewhat collegue Nicholas:-). Yes, there's Nicholas Spanos's picture and his description on my channel, but I'm just a fan, and many fans of different artists do it. Some put PJ's face on their channels too:-). I agree with you in general that our life is too short to waste it on hatred and it's better to do something more positive. I'm not wasting my life on hating PJ:-). It's only YT and exchange of OPINIONS on a video

  • @stellartunes So, I've just checked your channel. If you are a musician, composer from the same country of Canada where I live now you think that you are righter than the others who are not professionals but can tell classical manner from pop? You confused me with somebody else. You are not that smart as you think:-). Actually this video isn't about YOU and your lectures enlightening people what your collegues think about YOUR work and your boring thesis what "cheap" is and people's behaviour...

  • @serenaluce I think this is about something much deeper than PJ's misrepresentation, going on here so......

Just be kind Yana, life is short, and we need more positive people in it. Oh, and welcome to Canada.

    Peace.

  • @stellartunes... But I prefer to call a spade a spade and for honesty in art. I would prefer too just to praise the artists I like. But do you always enjoy what you expected to hear and what you got? I don't say that this kind of art what PJ presents is bad. But popularizing classics is a DIFFERENT genre and NOT serious classical art itself as what it is presented here using the fact that not so many people in the world know at all what BAROQUE is. It's only POP baroque and should be called it!

  • @serenaluce Yanna, I thought I had been speaking with Nicholas Spano's, as I had just briefly glanced at your channel, and I thought it was HIS Channel. Then I thought, OH, this guy really loves himself! Something didn't click, so when you said, "I'm a woman, and my name is Yana," I thought, Boy, Spanos should be very flattered at your channel, as it's a lovely tribute to him. I like Beau Soir myself. I have a few questions, but if you'd like I'll send it to your channel inbox (non public)

  • @stellartunes Oh my God, how can any artist at all praise himself like that on his own channel!:-). I'm sure even PJ wouldn't do it:-) How could you think so? Only fans can write such stuff on their own channels, and yes, try to make a tribute to them:-). It's only expression of admiration and nothing else:-). But my channel is dedicated not only to him but to real CTs in general though I like some pop falsettists too. I only heard Spanos live once and it was fantastic! Sure, you can send me PM.

  • @serenaluce well, Yana, I've seen some pretty large egos in the music world, so nothing surprises me...I read some interviews with PJ, and he let's it all hang out, which is actually kind of refreshing in an odd way, however I think he likes the shock value!

  • @stellartunes Hi David:-).Well, if nothing surprises you in the music world anymore, I'm still surprised:-). I wonder how well you know real CTs, and namely our stunning Canadian CTs Daniel Taylor and Matthew White who are not that promoted as PJ and known to lucky few but they deserve much more! If you only compare them you'll hear what I meant by proper operatic technique, depth of interpretation, etc. They also have pure and clear tone and very intelligent coloratura! They are real DIAMONDS:)

  • @serenaluce Yes they need to be promoted more, and are underrated, like so many Canadian artists. You need to be their promoter, Yana! I'm a fan of Measha Brueggergosman, on many levels...I find for me personally, PJ does not resonate emotionally ..that's my barometer.....kind of like Callas, you may not have liked some of her technique, but you certainly could feel her.

Ideally, an artist possesses both. I'm wondering if you will be going to PJ's concert in Toronto in November?

    Perhaps not...

  • @stellartunes Oh no, I will never go to any PJ's performance even if you invite me there and pay all my expences! LOL... You are right, we in Canada have first-rate artists who are just underrated and not promoted though they deserve much more. Only di Donato is well-known. What about Suzie Leblanc who is a wonderful partner to Daniel Taylor and whose version of Lascia ch'io pianga is much better than PJ's?! Well, I'm just a fan, not an official promoter. What do you think can be done more?:-)

  • @serenaluce yes, they are all excellent...I LOVE Lascia chio Pianga....that piece resonates with me...In regards to promoting the talent, what about contacting their management, or the press for that matter, to suggest an article on them. THIS will give them instant exposure, and I'm sure, the CBC, Globe, or the American/British Market. New York Times, or others including music websites, and magazines..You're channel is a great tribute, however I think it's press they need.

  • @stellartunes Yes, I agree with you here. What is a channel on YT in comparison with PRESS! But you know, I'm just a fan. I don't belong to the musical world and don't know how it works. Ordinary people even have much difficulty to write to their favourites' websites as they don't know what so important they can say to them, let alone to somewhat opera magazines and suggest topics:-). I would like instant exposure for my favourites but I'm not sure I'm suitable for such a role:). What about you?

  • @serenaluce I think we need to switch over our promotion comments to Spanos's videos...perhaps he may tune in and pass on some information to his handlers, and perhaps, they will get some ideas, and he can get some PRESS. Meet you over at Beau Soir...One of our faves...see you there!

  • @stellartunes If you are silent, I'm silent, everybody else who understands that PJ is just a pop falsettist and not real countertenor as he doesn't have proper technique for it is silent, and all the others can't hear the difference and believe the promotion as the majority even don't know that CTs exist and believe that a somewhat Carestini could sound like that though it's just a supercial pop, some elements of baroque and PJ takes advantage for himself who will say:"Emperor has no clothes"?

  • @stellartunes That's why I called you a nuisanse, because you confessed yourself that you are here not to express your opinion on the video but "to enlighten people", showing off yourself. Actually, according to my writing style you could figure out that I'm not even a native speaking to call me Nicholas. You said it yourself that what people write is more about themselves. So you are not a very good interpretor. I called it cheap only because I expected "diamond" but received "cubic zirconia"..

  • I recommend you listen to this, Yoshikazu Mera - Bach : Widerstehe doch der Sünde

  • he is a angel

  • If I could choose between being baryton or being counter-tenor i would've chosen both xD

  • COMO SE QUE HAY ANGELES Y NOS PROTEGEN, EL GRAN JAROUSSKY, ES UN ARCANGEL EN LA TIERRA. SE VE QUE DIOS HA DEJADO A UNO DE ELLOS QUE NOS ENDULCE LA VIDA TAN DURA QUE LLEVAMOS. UNA MARAVILLA, NO PARA EL OIDO, SINO PARA LA ESENCIA DEL ALMA. BRAVISIMO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @CARTAPACIOCARLOS Hermoso comentario. y descomunal Jaroussky.

  • I love him!!!!!!!

  • @markbob120 and you?

  • @sttmag better than Jaroussky!

  • He is apop singer who sings opera arias, not a real opera singer, much the same as Watson, Bocelli, Church, Brightman, and Jenkins. Both genres have merit, but he's still a pop singer.

  • @arpeggio1358 It's time for you to listen to baroque music.

  • @LaurisStephani I'm a classically trained singer who listens to baroque music all the time. To my ear, Jaroussky sings in a pop style. No offense intended. All opinions are welcome on YouTube.

  • @arpeggio1358 I'm not a singer but listen to a LOT of baroque music. I'm genuinely curious to know in what ways Jaroussky's style differs from the operatic. Please enlighten me. Thanks.

  • @arpeggio1358 Hi, I think that pop sells records, and he has a look, and sound that has mass appeal. Let's call it pop classical, ear candy...which may be good thing, as he may inspire people who did not have an interest in classical music, or counter tenor's for that matter, to investigate further and discover the other classical jewels like Spanos, etc. It's all good;)

  • @stellartunes In general I agree with you here too. All you say is right for intelligent people like you with open and inquisitive mind. It should be like you say. And some people really can hear PJ first, be very impressed and think if he is the only one man in the world who can sing that high and at first sight smooth and beautiful or there are others with whom they can compare and discover real jewels. But the problem is that nowadays people are just TOLD what they SHOULD like and they stop..

  • @stellartunes Most of the Jaroussky fans I've spoken to have no interest in other countertenors or classical music either. They just want to listen to PJ. I'd love it if the PJ fans would go on to discover actual classical/opera singers, but most of them have no interest. And yes, Spanos is a classical jewel. There are others too.

  • @arpeggio1358 who are some of your Faves?...I like Daniel Taylor, and Spanos version of Beau Soir is sublime....It's a small word of CT's and so misunderstood...perhaps that's why it has interest for me. I studied with a student in University who labelled himself a CT, however he was more of a tenor who had a well developed falsetto...

That's a shame about PJ's fans not delving more into the classical pool...I guess they like the novelty only....

  • @arpeggio1358 well that's shame, as there is a whole buffet of other great artists out there...Youtube is a great resource for people to educate themselves, and if they like something they can support the artist! Who are some of your favourites?

  • @stellartunes Some of my favorite countertenors are Spanos, Cencic, White, and Esswood. Other favorites are Samuel Ramey, Benjamin Luxon, Marilyn Horne, Ruth Ann Swenson, Barbara Bonney, Elina Garanca, Thomas Quastoff, Indra Thomas, Viveca Genaux, Violetta Urmana, Natalie Dessay. Who are your favorites?

  • @arpeggio1358 All of your CT choices as well as David Taylor...Dessay, Fleming, Gundula Janowitz, Schwarzkopf, Victoria de los Angeles, Leontyne Price, Norman,Sills, Callas, Measha Brueggergosman, Maureen Forester who I met a number of times, lovely lady, Jon Vickers, Olaf Bar, and so on.. anyone who is up and coming...yours is a nice list, do you work in opera? I had a friend who worked at the Met, and I used to see some nice performances.

Divin. MERCI BEAUCOUP.

  • He remind me (in the pictures!!) of Ian Curtis...

  • EMI France needs to release a sequel to this album. Another baroque opera album. I have money to spend on it.

  • Best

    Countertenor

    Ever

    = )

  • Another album like this and the Vivaldi: Heros soon please!

  • me gusta muchísimo Philippe, su voz, su estilo...pasaría horas y horas escuchándolo!

  • Beautiful, thank you.

  • Impressionnant !

  • he is just so pure

i am only 18 and i love listening to him

    the best singer!!

not like all the ogly r&b en hiphop

    this here is music

    thanks phillippe

  • @beke8 you're not the only 18-years old person who loves listenig to him. :D

i completly agree with you :)

  • @KatieIIGBmcr hello

    where are you from?

nowbody that i know that is still you loves this music.

i do and i will keep doiing it!!

    i realy adore his music

    Ruben

  • @beke8 :D

I'm from Poland. My father loves classical music. He showed me MEZZO - French tv channel that broadcasts classical music- and then I saw Philippe... It was like a thunder! I fell in love with his voice and I still love it.

    Kasia

P.S. Where are you from? How did it happen that you love this music?

  • @beke8 Please listen to some real operatic countertenors like Nichols Spanos, Paul Esswood, Max Emmanuel Cencic, Andreas Scholl, Brian Asawa, and David Daniels before you judge Jaroussky to be the best singer. These are all real opera singers as opposed to a pop opera performer like Jaroussky. Opera singers sing roles in complete operas in legitimate opera houses and NEVER use a microphone.

  • Orgasmic my darling. You are a real French diva. Brava Philippe. Your sensual singing gives me goosebumps. Your manners are absolutely gay and so hot. Your full lips and soft hands are so feminine. True woman. I cry every time I hear your voice. I just love your speaking voice too. I'm all excited. I wanna make love with you and marry you.

  • Music, composed so long ago, sing like this by Philippe today, pure magic. It makes you wonder how it must have sound in Carestini's time. If I could go back in time for just one moment, I would love to see Carestini sing this song for the first time, just imagine!

  • Great!!!

    He's amazing!

  • One of the best singers ever.

  • I dare say, something's wrong with your own ears. Almost no expression? It's so easy to sing this music without any expression and so difficult to sing it with. And Jaroussky definitely sings it with. And a lot of it.

  • I like it when people get upset with an opinion. Let's good alto's or mezzo's sing this repertoire is my opinion like Bartoli and Kozena...And I hear what I hear

as a professional baroque specialist - if you like it please do enjoy it 100%. ceerio

  • Just for the record: it is quite different reading if I am upset about something. :-) I contradicted, no more and no less. Especially with you suggesting between the lines that anybody disagreeing with you must have something else than "good ears". Peace!

  • I think that you have no ears pall! This singer has a high class voice, one of the best I ever heard !

  • simply wonderful

  • stupefacente!

  • Qué voz tan hermosa, me encanta!

That's a wonderful voice for sure!

    Fantastisch!

    Wahnsinn!

  • Excuse me, does someone know the exact name of this beautiful song?!

  • Comment removed

  • He sings two arias in the video: "Sperai vicino il lido" from the opera "Demoofonte" by Christoph Willibald Gluck and "Tu che d'ardire m'attendi" from the opera "Siface" by Nicola Porpora.

  • @Eauphelia thanks for telling us what he sings; and for EmiMusicFrance: ma-ta e jaroussky

    merci monsieur philippe jarousski !

  • MARAVILLOSO

  • QUELLE VOIX!!!!! merci pour tant d'emotions

  • i love jaroussky his voice is fantastic i think is the best counter tenor....for me.

  • cette voix et merveilleux

    im fron brazil

  • Il a du talen c clair

  • Hallo Knink24! Remember: this is not a sports competition! What next? Compare Mariah Carey to Diana Damrau in terms of highest notes? Ew. Maybe, then, you should go and watch some sports channel. Your beloved Vitas is a pop singer with an exceptional voice. May he stick to that genre.

  • Absolutely agree =)

  • Vitas sings not only pop but opera too and he did an extremely fine job. But I don't think it's right for knink24 to go around and trash other singers. Philippe's voice is also very pleasant so credit should be given where it's due.

  • @ASpringSymphony Vitas is a pop performer who sings opera arias in a non-operatic style. Real oepra singers sing roles in complete operas in legitimate opera houses and never use a microphone.

  • @Gaubizi And Jaroussky needs to stick to the pop genre also.

  • Your are my sensitivity, to the soul

  • sounds very feminine :P

  • The Ensemble Matteus plays... ONLY for Philippe. Its conductor conducts... ONLY for Philippe. The audience listens... ONLY to Philippe's miraculous voice. Philippe is the male colorato soprano's Franz Liszt!

  • I Love Jaroussky ^^

  • ¡¡¡ Coño !!! Great music and worderful contratenor

  • at the risk of sounding like an idiot... what is "carestini"? composer? name of aria?

  • Carestini is the name of a castrat. Farinelli's main rival.

  • Bravo, bravo, monsieur Jaroussky!!

  • what a brilliant smooth sweet opening

  • MARAVILLOSO!!!

  • Magnificent performance... exquisite and sweet; beautifully performed.

  • the next andreas scholl?

  • amazing
