Not very smart. You are likely causing damage to the cats eyes as well as your own. These cheap Chinese lasers do not have IR filters. While this is cool and fun you may be causing damage with out knowing. The retina has no pain receptors. The IR is extremely dangerous and you do not even need to shine it right in the eye to cause damage.

these lasers from deal extreme to have the correct IR filters, i have shone a 50MW green directly into my eyes at full battery power it does nothing but make you see green for a while.

That is the dumbest thing Ive heard anyone do. You most definitely damaged your eyes whether you realize it or not if your eye took a direct hit from a 50mw for any lenght of time. Way to go.
