Not many Violinist will even attempt Beethoven or Mendelssohn because you would have had to study the instrument for years and years to reach the level where you can come close to two of the greatest composers. So you are correct in your assessment. The Minister put the violin down and didn't practice it in 1955 he picked it up again 2 years before he did the Mendelssohn violin concerto. He slammed it!!!
