  • Amazing!

  • Wow Wooten! I solute you man. That is crazy man. Wow I like that!!!!!!!!

  • How does he do that incredible harmonic bend on the E-string!?! I've been trying (and failing) and it's driving me crazy!

  • @PageTheFisherman

he thumps the e string and slightly touches it with the nail of the thumb right after while he is resting on the a string and then bends the string, sounds complicated but really isnt

  • i think i would even let him slap my mum.

  • 2:09 <3

  • ahahah, XD shit!!! I watched many victor wooten videos all around but this is supposed to be the most incredible and the most funky feeling!!!

  • i love when hes not fucking around trying to be fast. his groovin is epic, his slap/pop shredding is ghey!

  • Victor and Marcus = The best

  • i think he's right pinky is dead

  • FUNKTASTIC THING IVE EVER HEARD, IT PUTS ALL THINGS RIGHT YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.

  • Why is it that when I Victor I think of a late 80's cop?

  • Wooten can do MUCH more than just slap... just listen to his music first, this is just ONE vid omg noobs...

  • the king of slap bass

  • hes darn awsome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • no, im sure, that guy is not human. AMAZING

  • Look at that Crazy genius's face.

    Awesome, awesome, awesome.

  • Fenomenal! Com certeza Victor Wooten só é superado por Arthur Maia.

  • Best Bass-homie in the neighbourhood, called Earth.. or better I think he just visits us earthlings to teach what's (im)possible on the Bass. Congratulations!

  • If all he did was that extremely fast stuff that doesn't really sound like anything, he wouldn't be much of a good musician. Good technical-wise, but as far as music goes he'd suck at it. The thing is, he actually incorporates a lot of other things that sound great. He doesn't overdo the fast stuff. That's what makes Victor a good musician.

  • i want a whammy bar on my bass!!!

  • I saw his video, and he taught how to do that harmonic on 0:18. The first time I did it I almost cried.

  • @ 2:10

    Amazing!

  • wow.

  • overflowing with bass talent...

  • man it hardly seems fair for someone to be as crazy good as victor is, but none the less i love it

  • He is the most technical bass player ever. That double slap he does with his thumb is mind blowing. But I can't listen to it for too long. It's not catchy, it goes too far and gets too self indulgent. I guess it's my Beatles pop roots showing themselves.

  • i think the drummer is matt bissnet

  • The drummer looks like Jeff Daniels from dumb and dumber.......but he does kick ass

  • @miriyaa stupidest thing someone can say in music

  • @miriyaa hahahhah so u said slap=noise, right!

As a classical fan you should know that mozart said music=noise, lol!

Now you look even more stupid!

  • mozart never said that

  • @miriyaa donno where I read that, but I sure know that was a quote. Obviously Mozart was no stranger to logic.

  • wooten is a great musician, IM JUST KIDDING MY FRIEND!!!! VICTOR RULZ!!

  • @miriyaa lol, weird kidding over multiple comments, but whatever!

  • FUCK, AMAZINGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Finally, he could do something without noise. Nice slap tone there.

  • my ears and eyes are bleeding from his sheer awesomeness

  • aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh mais c'est un truc de dingue caaaaa, le groove de la mort...comment ca avance grave pfffff je suis sur le cul

  • The bass has a fucking tremolo bar!!!!

why dont i have one ='(

  • I say, if you can find someone quicker and smoother than Victor, then catch him and preserve him in cryogenic freeze. He'll be worth billions one day.

  • alien..

  • he's a wizard

  • He's got such a good bass face! A definate sex face!!

  • what a legend

  • I was skeptical at the opening but it turned out to pretty awesome

  • Now that was truly sick...

  • Olha só a cara do batera no inicioo!!!kô di lokooo!

  • holy shit!

    slap sweeping??? wowie.

  • Okay yeah vic is probably more talented than most bassists ever, but I still think he overdoes the muting sometimes.

  • wow i wish i new a good bassit like that to jam with

  • yea i think this is bollox to, but try his other stuff its atchully very good

  • you just have to like this kinda music im more than positive victor did not write because this because he was trying to impress you also why post that comment if you dont have anything nice to say dont say anything at all

  • damn his slap technique is so hard to play :(

  • Oh F#$&CK ME! That was ridiculous. Oh My God, I mean, OH MY GOD! Did you see the drummer before he comes in, he's sitting back there just shaking his head at how SICK Victor is.

I actually don't like so much fancy stuff and just love the grove and usually listen to Marcus, but man, when the drums and bass just lock in and those harmonics and...CHRIST this is good.

  • he is some kind of special mutant come to show us the possibilities of the overman. Hail Wooten !

  • I wanna get skull fucked my VICTA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this is beyond mind blowing :|

i love his facial expressions at the start tho :')

    2:35 = naughty!!

  • Impresionante!!! Que grande Victor!

  • how the hell can you give a negative comment on this ?? imposible

  • the slapping god

  • i play bass my self this is awsome

  • It's sickening when you read some of the negative comments people make. In the first place, most people can't play like this yet---so why criticize ? If for example, Abraham laboriel criticized this, that would be different coz he is a bass master as well so his criticism is well founded--- you dig it ? But for the rest of us who can hardly play 10% of what victor plays, why do we bother criticising his style when we can't even fake it ????

  • this is music, so taste comes into action. ive seen some artists with unquestionable technical skills, but that doesnt mean I cant think it sounds rubbish. If i say "he has no skills" its another thing

  • @Frankly747

Why again? I'm aswell not equal to him in playing technique and stuff but why should this affect my opinion? Victor Wooten is an amasing musician, yes. Technically. But then again - what Wooten plays in his solos are nothing else but speed thumping like crazy and showing technique. Tell me where do you see the melody in last 2.30 minutes except the beginning of the drum jam when he actually makes some groove.

I much rather listen to Marcus Miller who actually plays melodically.

  • @Frankly747 let's make it 2% frankly.. those who are criticize what he's playing are the ones that are never gonna play like him.. there's saying in Turkish: a cat considers a food that it can not reach, as filth.. in other words if you never can have something, it's always easier to call it bad.. :)

  • @Frankly747 I absolutely agree with you my friend. This guy is master man. It does not matter what people say. you understand music, then see and judge or come with something better otherwise just keep silent and see what the Master is doing and hope you learn as well. So Yes you are so right. Well said.

  • awesome!!!!!!!

  • ahhh so tubular! I asked him a few years ago if he was ever going to play it again he said it was just a one time thing for his instructional book but clearly he didnt just play this groove only once because this is not the version off that book. is that drummer joey from full house with a pony tail?? haha

  • better when eh sound funk.....eh can leave is experimental for play at home !! i want to hear musical thinks

  • What the fuck? Nobody knows what you're trying to say

  • I'm in no way insulting Victor. I think he's amazing...but bass kind sounds bad going really fast...

  • EL MAESTRO, SI SÑR!!

  • это грув)

  • the illest

  • FINALLY. That's the first time I've seen him use his tremolo. Maybe I haven't experienced enough Wooten.

  • shut up, you are a racist

  • his early years were pure funk, now he's more experimental in his playing.

  • Whoa. How did he make that sound at 00:53?

  • i think he just gently pull the string and mute a millisecond after with the left hand.

  • i love victor wooten. i think he is one of the greatest bass players ever. but sometimes in his jams i think he mutes too much either that or he's going too fast for his own good. but never the less, he is amazing in all styles of playing!

    -toMMy-

  • How does he do that part at 1:41

  • Hammer-ons and double thumping.

  • OH NO YOU DIDN'T!!! ahaha i'll check back in a day or two to see if your scheme worked.

  • ok. So take a bass and show us what you can do with....

  • OMG

    FUCKING INCREDIBLE

  • insane, i don't think vic is human.

  • Victor Wooten how did u get so fookin gud in one lifetime!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Such a badass - so little time on earth. DAMN YOU MORTALITY.

  • haha! Well said!

  • that drummer owns!!!!! lol....

  • it's greg bisonette. he's awsome too. nowhere near Vic, but still prity bitchin'.

  • DAMN. Bootsy's caliber right there. Great Job. Mr. Wooten

  • This is awesome after the drums start. I was ready to leave the page until I heard such funky playing once the drums started.

  • GODDAMN!!!!!!!!!!!! HE BEAST MY UNCLE MET THIS GUY Alvin Fisher search him up he on XM satelite radio hes plays the flute youll like him

  • clearly victor was way more into a bebop sound back in these days... his sound is way more poppy now

  • good christ.

  • drummers faces are priceless

  • gregg bissonette (sp) looks so funny with long hair..

  • muy bueno que tiene este tipo? magia jajajaja

  • !!!!! WAHOUHHHHHHH !!!!!

  • with fingers like this, u all know his wife is one happy woman

  • sounds nice and funky but the fast parts only sound like bleeps and clicks to me... probably really an awesome technique...

  • slap was invented to produce a percussive aspect to the instrument. larry graham was without a drummer in his band and needed to make up for it. this is how things evolve. i'm not saying slap is the pinnacle of bass playing, but the instrument has more capabilities then it did before.

  • god

  • fucking hell that wasw amazing

  • Victor Wooten once again kicks ass.

  • my friend said Pete Wentz is the best bassist ever... i showed him this... it made his nipples hard

  • Wow cool.

  • ROFL, Pete Wentz. He's an infant compared to Vic (and most respectable bassists).

  • Victor Wooten can make Pete Wantz suck on his 4 string lol

  • LOL

  • @kevermanslap you need to get some smarter friends

  • @sexberg00 yeah haha

  • you'll never get to TM , victor!! :)

  • i love the custom bass whammy

  • It is a shame that the sound is so late!

I love victor, he is one of a kind.

  • gay, no jk u darn well know vic's the man =)

  • Go Vic!

  • oOOOOH YEAH !!! FUNK ME THAT !!! ^^

  • Wahahow, funkeh.

  • that´s some niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice bass playin mayn ^^ look at the drummer in the beginning when Vic plays solo :D he totally digs what Vic´s playin, like we all do ;).

  • He's been playing with that same bass for SOOO LONG!!!

  • because its one of the sweetest basses ever made.

  • that is some hard funkin'

  • Even in his much earlier days, he was phenomenal. I wonder if anyone told him as a teenager that he'd grow up to be the world's greatest bass player of all time.

  • talk about cailsis

  • Dude, I didn't think he could keep that fast slapping in tempo with drums, but MAN was I wrong. - Arjun

  • Woohoooooooooten!!!

  • Yeah Vic's great.....I had been playing guitar as well for 17 years until I heard this guy, now it's all bass.....Go Vic......

  • you ass

    you tight racist

  • f... u

    jalous

  • woaaaaaaah i founnd my idole bass player ^^

    love the instrument

  • People ask me sometimes why anyone would pick bass over guitar...Vic is the reason.

  • Amen to that,brother!

  • e chi ha bisogno di una chitarra! haah

    awesome

  • simply

    woooooooooooooooooooten !!!!!!!!

  • if any of u are interested victors bass brand is fodera and there is one problem wit them they are only made in new york, if u guys wanna c there line ups just type in google fodera and the first link if only u guys were wondering

  • the only other problem is that theyr so darn expensive :)

  • hahaha i know aye, but as musicians we have to pay for quality, but i really want one, i heard some of em go for 5-12 grand and im like WOAH haha but go figure aye

  • simply amazing!

  • victor wooten showed me that practice matters more than creative skill. hopefully my finger will callouse itself to performing the wf Wooten patented double thumb special technique.

  • -_- I wish I could say I thought you weren't being serious b/c it's pretty insulting to think that. I'm quite positive Vic would be unhappy if that was the message most people were getting from him. Go read some of his books... I always thought it was fairly obvious that creativity and expression is the most important aspect of music so thats why people practice at all.

  • Uh oh,

thats not what Vic stands for at all!

    He preaches creativity, not practice

If you want to sit in your room and play EXACTLY like Vic, then yeah that would require practice,

but to be a better player you have to expand musically and get CREATIVE and try something new. I know people who practice a lo but cant improvise, and have no soul, work out your priorities mate.

  • excellent jamming... man I love Wooten

  • DAMN. take that les claypool.

  • Is it just me or is the video a tad behind the audio?

  • although he's got loads of talent... when he's freaking up and down the fingerboard, i just think.. is that music? i prefer when i can actually hear the notes... but superb bass player...

  • well is percussion music? because he plays a very percussive style on the bass.

  • yes....yes it is, is that really a question?

  • no someone said that they didn't like the way he played because it isn't "musical."

  • percussive... i dont know

i would say its more along the lines of rhythmically complicated, not percussive.

He doesn't play to keep time, you know?

And you also have to listen beyond the speed to hear that yeah, he actually is playing intricate scales.

  • Percussion: --noun 1. the striking of one body against something with some sharpness; impact; blow.

Slapping was first brought to light by Larry Graham when his drummer couldn't make it to a gig so he starting thumping around to compensate. It has percussive elements.

  • Yes

    You have me there.

But when it comes to melody, search Victor Wooten and click on the first thing that comes,

because it gets to a point where he is playing the melody and the bass line simultaneously.

then listen to his version of amazing grace, its all harmonics

and he thimbs out the bass line

his playing is most definitely musical.

  • well of course. i didn't say he didn't have melody or wasn't musical. i consider him the best. i was just replying to the person who said they didn't like his way of playing (i think), because he doesn't play a standard style.

  • NICE

He is my personal favorite too

  • there is nothing left to say....

  • My favorite thing about Vic is his "rocking out" face. I don't know if it's just me, but I think that expression adds a lot to his insane style.

  • that's right victor good job

  • pardon me whilst i go change my pants after this....

  • lolol

  • what a team

  • rape!

  • i got erection after erection....

  • This is some grooooovie shit :P

  • I watch this and hear Stanley Clark all over the place.

Oh yeah I want a Fodera with a whammy bar too that'd be nice.

  • this man is not human

  • this is one of my favorite victor's video.i like the groove.i just noticed his drummer.y is he keep on nodding at the beginning of this video?

  • because he is in awe of the incredibley erectifying vision unfolding in front of him

  • he looks better with dreads all in all pretty funking good he has to be the best

  • He should shave off that moustache too =)

  • se ve mal con bigote XD

    pero toca exelente =)

  • Probably one of my favorite videos of Victor on here. Excellent.
