Mówi sie ze czlowiek wykozystuje tylko marny procent mozliwosci swojego muzgu... moze i tak, ale Victor wie gdzie w jego glowie jest ten % odpowiedzialny za wykorzystanie 100% mozliwosci instrumentu!
he thumps the e string and slightly touches it with the nail of the thumb right after while he is resting on the a string and then bends the string, sounds complicated but really isnt
Best Bass-homie in the neighbourhood, called Earth.. or better I think he just visits us earthlings to teach what's (im)possible on the Bass. Congratulations!
If all he did was that extremely fast stuff that doesn't really sound like anything, he wouldn't be much of a good musician. Good technical-wise, but as far as music goes he'd suck at it. The thing is, he actually incorporates a lot of other things that sound great. He doesn't overdo the fast stuff. That's what makes Victor a good musician.
He is the most technical bass player ever. That double slap he does with his thumb is mind blowing. But I can't listen to it for too long. It's not catchy, it goes too far and gets too self indulgent. I guess it's my Beatles pop roots showing themselves.
I say, if you can find someone quicker and smoother than Victor, then catch him and preserve him in cryogenic freeze. He'll be worth billions one day.
you just have to like this kinda music im more than positive victor did not write because this because he was trying to impress you also why post that comment if you dont have anything nice to say dont say anything at all
Oh F#$&CK ME! That was ridiculous. Oh My God, I mean, OH MY GOD! Did you see the drummer before he comes in, he's sitting back there just shaking his head at how SICK Victor is.
I actually don't like so much fancy stuff and just love the grove and usually listen to Marcus, but man, when the drums and bass just lock in and those harmonics and...CHRIST this is good.
It's sickening when you read some of the negative comments people make. In the first place, most people can't play like this yet---so why criticize ? If for example, Abraham laboriel criticized this, that would be different coz he is a bass master as well so his criticism is well founded--- you dig it ? But for the rest of us who can hardly play 10% of what victor plays, why do we bother criticising his style when we can't even fake it ????
this is music, so taste comes into action. ive seen some artists with unquestionable technical skills, but that doesnt mean I cant think it sounds rubbish. If i say "he has no skills" its another thing
Why again? I'm aswell not equal to him in playing technique and stuff but why should this affect my opinion? Victor Wooten is an amasing musician, yes. Technically. But then again - what Wooten plays in his solos are nothing else but speed thumping like crazy and showing technique. Tell me where do you see the melody in last 2.30 minutes except the beginning of the drum jam when he actually makes some groove.
I much rather listen to Marcus Miller who actually plays melodically.
@Frankly747 let's make it 2% frankly.. those who are criticize what he's playing are the ones that are never gonna play like him.. there's saying in Turkish: a cat considers a food that it can not reach, as filth.. in other words if you never can have something, it's always easier to call it bad.. :)
@Frankly747 I absolutely agree with you my friend. This guy is master man. It does not matter what people say. you understand music, then see and judge or come with something better otherwise just keep silent and see what the Master is doing and hope you learn as well. So Yes you are so right. Well said.
ahhh so tubular! I asked him a few years ago if he was ever going to play it again he said it was just a one time thing for his instructional book but clearly he didnt just play this groove only once because this is not the version off that book. is that drummer joey from full house with a pony tail?? haha
i love victor wooten. i think he is one of the greatest bass players ever. but sometimes in his jams i think he mutes too much either that or he's going too fast for his own good. but never the less, he is amazing in all styles of playing!

no someone said that they didn't like the way he played because it isn't "musical."
scat4u 4 years ago
percussive... i dont know
i would say its more along the lines of rhythmically complicated, not percussive.
He doesn't play to keep time, you know?
And you also have to listen beyond the speed to hear that yeah, he actually is playing intricate scales.
thebassguy9083 3 years ago
Percussion: --noun 1. the striking of one body against something with some sharpness; impact; blow.
Slapping was first brought to light by Larry Graham when his drummer couldn't make it to a gig so he starting thumping around to compensate. It has percussive elements.
scat4u 3 years ago
Yes
You have me there.
But when it comes to melody, search Victor Wooten and click on the first thing that comes,
because it gets to a point where he is playing the melody and the bass line simultaneously.
then listen to his version of amazing grace, its all harmonics
and he thimbs out the bass line
his playing is most definitely musical.
