@Pr0ject2 they smell to an extent but i wouldnt say its a bad smell, if you dont like it you get used to it, had mine 1 week soon :) males tend to smell more than females, but aslong as you clean their cage once or twice a week while they are playing they dont smell. i suggest getting 2 or more around the same age, as they love to ply with eachother. If you decide you only want 1, then you HAVE to make playtime, around 2-4 hours a day should be fine, just interact with them and play.

they're suprizingly noisy as babies. I've ony bought ferrets from pet sotres so they're pretty old when you buy them. But even when they were smaller and you got them hyper, they never made a lot of noise. Just an occational ticking noise.

For people who want to buy ferrets: Please keep in mind that you need to check your state and local laws when it comes to owning ferrets. For instance, they are illegal to own in Washington D.C. and you need a license to own one in NYC. Ferrets also need to be vaccinated for rabies and distemper in addition to being spayed/neutered. Always be sure to get your ferrets from a reputable breeder, such as Marshall's, or pet store. All legally sold ferrets should come with paperwork.

@mgussow While I agree with most of what you said Marshall's or any pet store that gets their ferrets from Marshall's is not reputable. That's a ferret mill and the last place you should get a ferret. Not trying to be a dick but just thought you should know.

@MochaShakuhKhan43 That's kinda odd. I visited the Marshall's in Syracuse, NY, and I didn't get that impression. I'm not saying you're wrong. It could be that Marshall's, as a whole, is a ferret mill but individual locations may not be so. Either way, I got mine from a private breeder. She's such a cute little FurFur. ^_^v

@mgussow They do put up a good front. When I bought my first ferret it was from a Petco store and I still have her. She is a great ferret but shortly after I bought her she fell ill and ended up costing me just over a $1000 dollars to save. My vet made me aware of the reputation of Marshall ferrets after that. I did tons of research and needless to say the information was appalling. Besides the fact that they raise ferrets in terrible conditions they sell most of them for animal testing.

@mgussow I am glad that you ended up getting a ferret from a private breeder. Aren't they the best? I'm hooked on them. I always grew up with cats and when I got my first one at 18 when I moved out of my parents it was love at first sight. Now I'm up to 4. 2 regular domestics and 2 angora's. Nothing brightens the day like watching them bounce around the apartment and play after a long day of work.
