It's doing that within the glass. I don't remember the exact chemistry involved, but I think that it's CO2 and a little N2 coming out of solution. It happens when you pour a stout that's being "pushed" with an N2/CO2 gas mix from a "stout faucet" with a built-in restrictor plate. Basically, the plate has tiny holes that force the gas out of solution, creating the foaming "cascade" effect. Doing it that way also gives you a creamier head. At least, I think that's right...

A Stout is a beer. Beers consist of Lagers and Ales, and lots of styles in each category, some of which can be either. Stouts are Ales. Ales use top fermenting yeast and Lagers use bottom fermenting yeast, and each have different characteristics. The only reason it's dark is because some of the barley is roasted. Btw, Guinness is a light beer.

Guinness got me in to good beer, but after having so many amazing Stouts, it's like the Bud Light of Stouts (blasphemy!). Mine is better.

I have been brewing my own beer for years. A stout is definitely a type of Ale. Ales are fermented at a higher temperature with a top cropping yeast. Guinness and other stouts use a top cropping ale yeast. I for one truly appreciate a good stout, especially when pored correctly.

This was the reason I started drinking Guinness. I was a rookie to beers and my friend ordered a Guinness once and I was fascinated by the downward bubbles. I tried it and loved it. It's kind of odd how I started out with Guinness though. Most people take a while to get used to it, but I loved it immediately.

Like turning on the Hot or Cold water is not a skill, but one day you had to learn how to do it.

The only redeeming feature of putting beer into a glass in such a manner is that it does go in slowly, thus there is little chance of overflowing the beer onto the floor.

Aside from that, there is nothing to the 2-Part Pour except marketing hype.

I dont know if you got kids, but I do and what you then understand is that if you take your kids anyplace today for dinner the kids pour their own pops.

Now it takes a few tries for them to learn how, but they soon get the idea of how to pour a tall pop without any foam.

It's not a skill, it's more like learning how to turn on the hot or cold water.

You just learn how and thats it.
