In the end, it was probably the best move for us gamers, as the Genesis's speed advantage gave it a unique edge against the SNES, resulting in great games for both consoles.

Aw man, the Europeans and the Japanese don't get to hear the Genesis does what Nintendon't commercials back when the system came out, because there, the system is called Mega Drive, which is the actual original name, while in North America, due to copyright, they changed the name to Genesis, hence Genesis does what Nintendon't. I'm not sure if there was a Mega Drive does what Nintendon't commercial though.

Apparently, Sega was lying about the Genesis's capabilities, such as the mythical "blast processing" and its thousands of colors. Was that legal back then? I still really like the Genesis (I just got Michael Jackson's Moonwalker in the mail.) but now that I think of it, it does seem like an immoral move. But these were times when the console companies could and did just that. I wish they still did that, as in "If you don't buy a Wii, you're Wiitarded."

Aw man, the Europeans and the Japanese don't get to hear the Genesis does what Nintendon't commercials back when the system came out, because there, the system is called Mega Drive, which is the actual original name, while in North America, due to copyright, they changed the name to Genesis, hence Genesis does what Nintendon't. I'm not sure if there was a Mega Drive does what Nintendon't commercial though.
Then the non-Japanese got the short end of the straw with the Sega Saturn.

@SenorLobo34 yeah it's probably the british pronounciation of SEGA, notice that it's megadrive, not genesis, the console was called genesis only in america for some reasons, and megadrive all over the world

Apparently, Sega was lying about the Genesis's capabilities, such as the mythical "blast processing" and its thousands of colors. Was that legal back then? I still really like the Genesis (I just got Michael Jackson's Moonwalker in the mail.) but now that I think of it, it does seem like an immoral move. But these were times when the console companies could and did just that. I wish they still did that, as in "If you don't buy a Wii, you're Wiitarded."
