  • Pretty much, y'all thought the movie was great, until they started talking about God, and then the movie plummeted. That doesn't sound biased at all. Though I am a Christian, I don't look at it from a Christian POV. Sure it had recurring Christian themes, but that's what the movie was. Do you go to Transformers only to hate the presents of robots beating each other to parts? Obviously not. Why is it so unbelievable that God, being the Almighty, cannot work through Eli to do the things he can do?

  • I can't stand the huge amounts of bullshit in the video, or the comments. It's fiction, dammit. In the movie, God tasked him to take the book west, and guided him. It dosen't matter if you don't believe in the bible. I just can't believe how short-sited people are!

  • I watched the movie with a friend. About 30 minutes into the movie he asked me if we really want to watch it. I said yea, now that we have watch it so far already... how much worse can it go. It went worse and worse. And the ending was as terrible as hell. To me, its the worst movie I can remember.

  • @eastfmp well you're taste in movies simply blows.

  • As much as I can't stand these tow Liberal Scums that do nothing but promote hate towards anyone that has a Conservative bone in them and then say that Muslims show nothing but peace and the karna is the book of peace (they or it lies wonder which on it is). I have to agree with them on this one, it was a GREAT movie. Then they started to talk about the BIBLE and GOD how its wrong and he doesn't exist, and they lost me again and I realized why I don't like socialist.

  • @schroyerta Socialist doesn't have anything to do with hating the bible. You don't make any sense with your comment.

  • This movie was entertaining. That's it. The road on the other hand is a great movie which makes you think

  • This movie was great. Eli knew how to fight for his religion and it was almost non-stop action. My favorite scene in the movie had to be that scene where that bitch kept asking if she could come along and Eli kept saying no. Why is that scene so great? Because in most movies, if a woman asks if she could come along, the main character always says yes, but not Eli.Yes she does eventually comes along, but Eli locks her in some secret room in a cave first. I laughed so hard at that part.

  • enjoy enjoying that 100 % version with this kind of film at avatz, net change , to .

  • Whoever lets Ben Mankiewicz do movie reviews is an idiot! These guys bug the crap out of me and the "Young Turk" guy has no idea what he's talking about. If you don't believe in what the movie is saying, then you're not gonna believe that he could have been blind the entire movie! There is a reason Ben Mankiewicz got fired from At the Movies!! There is also a reason why the Hughes Brothers are making movies and the "Turk" has a Youtube Channel! His idea was lame. Not the main theme Ben.

  • @bcdicarlo04 Denzel Being blind at the end was infact ridiculous dude, but really that was my only problem with it, loved the action scenes loved the chemistry between the characters loved the premis, but I did think that didn't add up.

  • Whoever lets Ben Mankiewicz do movie reviews is an idiot! These guys bug the crap out of me and the "Young Turk" guy has no idea what he's talking about. • A poorly written, competently acted second rate Road Warrior rip-off.

  • Sorry for being such a fanboy but the trailers of this movie make me keep thinking of Fallout 3

  • I don"t think he was blind. The zooming camera shot towards his eyes when he started to recite at the end made us think he was. He just knew braille and possessed the only copy braille Bible available then...

  • yess he was blind.

  • ... and 5th. Gary Oldman's character is called "Carnegie"... What the fuck drugs is this Ben guy on?

  • ...into a letter format (i.e - A, B, C) in order to be able to understand what a 7/10 is?

And all you fukn idiots commenting on this video who are demanding that "Eli was blind", please show me some proof of this?

    Get ur shit together!

  • - 4th. The guys that robbed that couple didn't "Eat" her. They live in the town where canabalism is outlawed & no-1 allows canabals to come into that town!

Dude, actually pay attention to what's happening in a movie before you attempt to do a review because this was a fukn joke.

And for some1 like you (who has the best show on YouTube) i'd like to expect alot more for you!

And what's the go with Ben? He doesn't understand what a 7/10 is? Is he fukn joking? He has to convert it

  • Cenk... You have the best show on Youtube but ur review of this movie is a joke!

-1st. He wasn't blind, he just had a blind text bible.

-2nd. His name is not "Walker", some people referred to him as "The Walker". His name is "Eli".

    - 3rd. Mila Kunis wasn't too clean? And she wasn't a whore? Gary Oldman's character evern stated that he never pimped her prior to sending her in Denzels room.

  • Amazing movie period. The whole blindness at the end thing is up for grabs anyway. Look it up, the directors left it open. Maybe he was blind, when God spoke to him he gave him the tools (sight) it would take to complete his task. When his task was done, he was back to normal. The only reason he didn't bleed to death sooner is because God needed him alive. Just a theory

  • God awful movie, so to speak.

  • the reason he could fight and see and shoot even though he was blind was because he was "supernaturally"protected by God, and the girl at the end wasn't scared to go back to rescue her mom because she was then protected by God.

  • The Road Warrior + Zatoichi = The Book Of Eli It was the best end of days movie I have seen in a long time.

  • That dude with the fucking glasses talks to damn much about the details which ruins the movie for those who havnt seen it. Learn how to review without spoiling movie plots dip shit or at least put a warning before the review starts that you intend to verbally talk about the entire movie. At least cenk knows how to review a movie.

  • Just to let you know: I watched the first half of the video, came back and watched the second half after watching the movie.

SO KEEP DOING THE SPOILER ALERTS!

  • Does first few scenes they show of the movie remind me of some areas of fallout 3

  • This movie is the worst movie I have ever seen in my life.

It's like an apocalyptic christian western shootout.

I can describe with words how awful this movie is.

"The bible is somehow missing from the face of the earth but a weird mob boss creep who collects books wants it to dominate other people but this guy who is blind and leaded by god's faith goes around killing everything so they can print the bible again"

I can hardly decide which is the role model to follow. LMAO

  • god you stupid

  • god ? Wasn't him here in first place? lmao

  • it's so cool to see two progressives hating on the bible

  • The script writer, Gary Whitta, has admitted that Eli is in fact blind throughout the movie. I didn't mind it at all. Yeah, it may have seemed like a cheap trick, but if you follow the actions of Eli and how he goes through the film, you see evidence of this. I think it makes it worth a second viewing. It's a solid 7/10.

  • I watch it on videozed. com

This was an excellent movie. Denzel did a great job! Sure. I would recommend it. Sure it had a religious tone but it was a movie based on what perserverance and faith can do. 5/5

  • I'm On Cenk's Side, That Was The Dumbest Move In The Whole Movie On Her Part. If I Came Across Her While I Was On The Brink Of Starvation And I Still Had The Energy To Generate A Boner, Rape And Canibalism Would Not Be That Far Out The Question.

She Really Should've Stayed Her Ass At That Fortress And Helped With The Book Making For The Rest Of Her Life, Seriously!

  • im an atheist but i loved the message in this movie, i thought the fight scenes were lame (even worst coz hes blind) liked the ending but tyt ending d been better but overall 8/10

  • he was not blind.. he just reads braile

  • the close up to his eyes clearly shows he was blind which is why he always sensed everything before everyone else...yeah i thought it was stupid

  • There are 2 million shot's in this movie that clearly show him using his eyes to look at people in there eyes while conversatin' with them.

Ur an idiot... He wasn't blind!

  • He was Blind

  • Ur an idiot... He wan't blind!

  • Yes, he was blind. Apparently you didn't see the whole movie. Either that, or you were disappointed (like I was) when you found out that he was blind but could still do all those cool moves. The explanation was that a god gave him that power. I know, sounds stupid right? That's because the plot is crap.

  • You're a moron!

I just re-watched it for like the 5th time (2 mins ago)

Proof please? Proof? Oh that's right... You don't have any proof do you! Coz he wasn't blind you fukn idiot. He clearly uses his eyes to make eye contact with people.

And he even uses his eyes to look up at the walls & celeing of the old abandoned building/cement fixture that him & solara spend the night in before they went to that old couples house while he is talking about the place!

    Grow a brain!

  • Finally... Some1 who actually has some common sense... "Thank You Dude".

Any idiot who actually thought Eli was blind must be blind themselves.

  • Great collection of movies on filmparadise (.) info

  • TyT reccomended the port call of new orleans.... a crappy movie that sucked asss.... and now they bash this movie......THIS MOVIE WAS AWESOME.... THE STORY WAS PASSIONATE AND THRILLING... IT WAS FUNNY AND SAD.... AND THE ACTION WAS AWESOME! TYT IS HATING BECAUSE THEY ARE ATHEIST WITH NO FAITH!

  • Y Do so many ppl hate the God of Israel? Pls comment.

  • he wasn't blind you fucking faggots; at no point this was said in the movie.. he just happened to know how to read braille

  • he was blind....you fucking faggot.

  • He WASN'T blind... Ur a moron for thinking he was! Watcht he movie again dumbass!

  • watch this movie at best-watch-movies( . )c om

  • When I saw this movie and found out he was blind I said that they basically ripped off Daredevil.

  • Just saw this movie. Weird how Cenk and this moron of a reviewer thought that Eli is blind. Absolutely no indication whatsoever indicates he is blind at all. He looks people STRAIGHT in the eye, all the f'ing time. The Brail in the bible just means that the Oldham character won't be able to translate it. These are the Hughes Bros that directed this, not Stanley f'ing Kubrick for crying out loud.

  • they zoomed in on his eye, it was discolored and the color of a blind guy

  • BS. I remember that zoom in because it reminded me of the eyes on my dad's side of the family. Dark brown eyes with a blue outter lining. My dad had it. My aunts and uncles all have that from my dad's side and it is a trip to look at. Oh, and did I mention that they all happen to be black and none of them were/are blind.

Bottom line is this: He LOOKS at things. This is clearly established many, many times. Blind people can't focus there eyes on anything, well, because they are f'ing BLIND!!!

  • Amen... He wan't blind... I'm wit u brother!

  • Where & when in the movie does this happen? Let me know & i'll go back & watch it coz I have it on DVD!

  • I actually watched this clip days ago, and went and saw the movie last night. I really had no intention to see the movie, but I still turned it off at the spoiler alert.

    Glad I did.

  • I wonder if Cenk would burn the Koran? hmm

  • Could the commercial about "tweeting" a cartoon of yourself have a less annoying robot-voice? Please!

  • Now I understand the name of this channel.. The Young Turks.. as in Turkish Mongols which make up most of the Jews.. Just another fucking jew Channel talking about stupid shit like this dumb fucking movie that `Jews' produced to make another nigger the savior of civilization... Seems to be an ongoing thing these days.. niggers or jews saving the world from White... WTFever!!

  • Cenk Is Agnostic

  • @H8ISGR8 Young Turk (n), 1. Young progressive or insurgent member of an institution, movement, or political party. 2. Young person who rebels against authority or societal expectations. (American Heritage Dictionary).............oh wait I'm forgetting something....oh ya,fuck you bigot.

  • The only person I could care less about in terms of "film criticism" than Ben Mankiewicz is Ben Lyons. No taste and no professionalism. He sounds like a babbling dolt.

  • Ohh my God, what a troglodytes are these guys, they can't even interpret the movie. Book of Eli was full of metaphors and here they talk about Good and Evil, please!! cave-dwellers who put you on TV ??

    Lukasz

  • @lpoddebski their not on T.V fucko

  • Dynamic Movie that goes against the FAVORITE HOLLYWOOD WHITE SUPREMACIST STEREOTYPES OF BLACKS AS DUMB, CORNY, AND INFERIOR...

I can see why any white supremacist psychotic would ABSOLUTELY HATE THIS MOVIE.....Your ego cant take BLACKS not being associated WITH CRIME AND MISCHIEF and instead portrayed as DIVINITY.

A+ FOR THE BOOK OF ELI......HOWWEVER IF YOU LIKE TO SEE BLACKS PORTRAYED IN TRADITIONAL WHITE SUPREMACIST STRAINED STEREOTYPES, THIS IS NOT THE MOVIE FOR YOU. GOOD START, GOOD END!

  • I heard that this movie is just a "Zordoz" remake (io9).

  • is it legal?

  • I give The Book of Eli an B for cinematography and a D minus for being an overall piece of ridiculousness.

  • let me guess your a hopeless atheist...right

  • Just watched the movie and i give it a C. Denzel was great and i love Mila Kunis but overall i found it to be too ridiculous especially after the twist at the end. Would've been B without it. It ruined the movie for me. You are still th man Denzel. Without you or Maybe Russel Crowe or Will Smith it would have been F. Utter Nonsense.

  • I hope the bible does not survive the end times, it would just bring the insanity to the next try at civilization.

  • wow, really respectful

  • The movie was GENIUS! PURE GENIUS! In my opinion, a person with an intellectual/artistic mind could not dislike this movie. I have no idea how anyone could think it was a bad movie except for the beginning part. the beginning was slow. The symbolism and significances of certain aspects of the movie and even the plot itself was just incredible. The ending gave me goosebumps.. WOW go watch it!

  • What a horrible movie.

  • *SPOILERS*

I think people are over analyzing this film way too much. It's not preachy at all. Eli could have had ANY book and the film would have been great. It's a classic 'man on the mission' action film. Nothing more or less. I loved the ending, because it just showed his blindness and his intense survival skills were a result of his faith. It was sort of fate because he died soon after. My friend is atheist and loved this film. It's a solid film with great performances.

    Overall: 8.5/10

  • *SPOILER*I am an atheist who enjoyed the movie a lot. I do not think it is necessary to believe in the Bible to follow Eli's story. In fact, I think the general, Alcatraz mission of preserving old culture would be mine in the hypothetical apocalypse situation. You could probably replace the Bible with The Prince, a mechanic's guide, Confucius, cultural proverbs, etc. which some people hold dear(wrongly or rightly) in a way and others want to use it to gain power/belief.

  • @Evidentz07 I totally agree, the fact that it was a religious scripture just made the film cooler. The mad max in thunderdome prophet sent to give the world hope to restore itself. Fallout baby!

  • @Evidentz07 It could have been "any" book that gave him the "faith" to overcome his blindness and kill everyone who got in his way? Oh, and your "friend" liking this movie makes it good because he's an Athiest? My friend is Irish and he thought this movie was bullshit. See, I can do that too.

  • this movie sucked.. religion caused all the problems.. and he wanted to spread it again..

  • The black and blind version of Neo is being protected by God to preserve the last copy of The Bible..... horrible movie.

  • Only 1/2 blind (blind in 1 eye), how come so many miss this detail?

  • He wasn't 1/2 blind. What are you talking about.

Please provide your evidence for this, because it was he was clearly portrayed as a blind man.

  • He wasn't blind at all you idiot!

  • one big problem I had with this movie was Alcatraz, it looked pretty much untouched and across the bay was total devastation that made no sense to me

  • True....maybe it was partially destroyed but they rebuilt it as a safezone from the gangs/scavengers?

  • Yes, those fight scenes were awesome, didn't know Denzel had the ability to sell that kind of action but man this was so great. His face off with the chainsaw guy was amazing!

  • did you ever see man on fire? amazing!

  • This movie was good as hell

  • I saw it and thought it was pretty good...and im not christian

  • this review even with the spoiler that I watched anyway made me want to watch it for the first time. mainly because of the preview.

  • This is a movie review so can all you godwads shut the F up about God for 2 seconds.

  • My review.... stupid movie. very stupid. C- is about right.

  • yea that end scene with mila kunis really frustrated me too.

  • @YahawahTheGreat

For God so loved the WORLD (not just Jews) that He gave his only Son, that WHOEVER (anyone) believes in Him shall not perish but everlasting life.

Give me scriptural evidence in the Bible to disprove this?

I love you brother and I thank God that you're a believer. I just want to tell you the truth concerning God's word.

  • Ok then why would he rest after creating the Earth and all of its inhabitants. Huge plot hole. If he's almighty he cant rest because he has no need to. Gods dont get tired.

    God does contradict himself.

  • Alright so let's say you are true. Then tell me, how I as an asian and my fried who is a caucasian can be connected to God and experience his love. I mean why would God be racist? That's kind of contradicting his whole character isn't it?

  • @GenesisforJESUS Who said God wasn't racist? well the way you and your friend especially your white friend MAY have a chance of getting connected with God. Is if you go out and tell all your other white buddies Jesus was black and the Jews, and that we are above all others. The bible did say Israel is above ALL nations so its not my words but God's. So yea do that and maybe the Lord may spare you.

  • @YahawahTheGreat. Thanks you for sharing your faith. I believe in Jesus. Yahweh be praised. I love you in Jesus' name.

  • God cannot be racist because in the bible god loves all of his creations. that's why he doesn't kill Cain after Cain killed album. and if everything is made by god then he loves them all. he molded Adam (Adam is a mistranslation from the Hebrew word Adamo=humanity) into his image. God is genderless and without race. he could not be racist because all races represent him. so then he would be a self loathing god which is not true. and Jesus wasn't black he would have been middle eastern.

  • OK first off can you white people PLEASE stop claiming Jesus is YOUR God!!! He died for ISRAEL and blacks are the Real Jews. WHITE people stop killing in the name of Jesus!!!Yes God DOES kill, and ALOT he commanded the ISRAELITES to kill MANY!! because all the OTHER nations are WICKED! God is NOT afraid to kill the wicked, he will murder you on the spot if he wants to. T

  • Your an jerk and so is your imaginary friend. :D

  • B or B+

  • The other guys weird... get rid of em. A photo album for real?

  • MORE SPOILER ALERTS!!! for films that I wasn't going to see anyways

  • Comment about Mila Kunis going back out into the world at the end...I AGREE.

  • Religion is not the cause of conflict.

The cause of conflict is the "us versus them" mentality that makes people need to fight against those who are different.

Religion grows from that mindset, but that mindset existed before religions were created.

  • Agreed. Although religion seems to precipitate more violence than other differentiating factors like race or politics.

  • Still, blame the source.

The fact that we either need to FEAR OR FIGHT those who are different is the real problem, not religion.

Religion is used to justify the fear and the violence, it's not the cause of it.

  • Religion is not the sole cause of the worlds problems but it certainly is an exacerbant.

  • Wtf guys?! How do you know he was blind?! I never assumed that at all even after thee movie, it just seemed to me that he had known or taught himself to read braille. What's so unbelievable about that? I mean if it's the last Bible on Earth, you're gonna take anything you can get, even if it's in braille.

  • spoilers ahead...

They zoomed right into his fake eyes near the end while he was "reading" from memory

  • The premise seems extremely weak, as if 30 years would be enough to erase our collective memory of the Bible. If it had been 300 years, maybe...

AND, it has the "only" Bible in existence when there are literally 100's of millions all over the place. Nonsense.

Denzel's basically a blind ninja. *shakes head*

  • I agree with this. Even though these people are one generation detached from the book, it's still too soon. I think 75 years would have been better. Then again, why would some random sob care about some book he found without knowing what it was?

  • this is fucking stupid fuck this movie its preachy as fuck and shoves christian views down our throats.

  • Movie sounds a bit like Fallout 3.

  • Even the colors and ambiance in the preview of it looks like F3, it's just missing old time radio and power suits.

  • This is horrible, saw this movie last night, Eli had God's protection, he had supernatural ability given by God, These two nuts completely destroyed this movie. The book of eli is an amazing story and movie. The only part I agree on is of how clean the salaura was. Other than that, it was awesome. They directors left it open for a sequel.... idk how but it is possible. Give it an A-. Go see the movie

  • @slaven985 bro trust me FALLOUT3 IS WAYY BETTER, this movie sucks ball sacks

  • We have to remember that in the movie, Denzel walked by faith and not by sight so he did not need eyes to do the things he did.

  • So it's total bullshit then.

  • that would have been a good ending

  • i think this was horrible movie. im sorry but this movie isnt worth saving. Denzel was blind and he dies HE DIES PEOPLE i feel this bullshit movie must be spoiled

  • Horrible review .... obviously they took the movie in at face value and didn't think back on what they saw what the "Big Twist" at the end happened .... AMAZING MOVIE .... GO SEE IT .... You wont be disappointed

  • You'd burn it? That's awesome. I'd burn it or hide it even if some divine being told me not too.

  • same here

  • Question to those who've seen the movie. Does the movies premise already presume that God is real?

  • yup it sure does

  • Havent seen the film, but if Denzel was talking to God and God had his back... I think the movie was saying God was the one guiding the bullets 500 yards away to hit the bad guys in the head.

And when he said he could smell the situation, then that would just be an easier way for him to describe it rather than saying God is telling me in my mind what I can not see.

Just an observation from someone that hasnt seen the movie.

  • And to make a further point.

Without Gods help, Denzel would be pretty helpless...

    just like Mila Kunis's character.

Perhaps they were saying that God has now tapped her and sent her on her seemingly impossible journey.

Eli was sort of like Jesus and Mila sounds like Mary Magdalene. And some believe it was supposed to be Mary and not St Peter that was supposed to carry on in creating the Church.

So what they may be getting at is that she is carrying in the capacity of creating a new church.

  • They should do a "Fallout" movie, that would be better.

  • He's blind, but.. he's awesome with the bow and arrow? LMFAO

  • It sounds like the both of them really couldn't stand the movie... Are you THAT impressed by the fact that it's Denzel Washington that you're willing to give it a good grade? Thats a little gay.

My all-time favorite pop singer is Madonna, but American Life was a shitty fucking album. It is what it is.

  • this is fallout 3 the movies

  • SPOILER ALERT! awesome.

  • WHAT? This is just the Road with a different main actor. Pfff....

  • I'd ask God about the ridiculous passages.

  • yeah, i felt like this movie was inspired by Fallout 3 in a way. Fallout 3 is my favorite PS3 game so I am very excited to see this movie!!

  • Conan > Leno & Letterman

  • Why? In what way is Conan superior to Letterman?

  • @nilbud Well, for one, he's funny.

  • That must be why they fired Letterman and ... oh no wait a minute...

  • lol the road was released in novmeber. like zero theaters caried it. FAIL

  • Thanks for the info. How depressing. We finally get past world distruction in the future and were sarting all over with the Bible. I was hoping that people would recognize the Bible for what it really was and move on not start over with it.

  • Is it just me, or does this look EXACTLY like Fallout 3? Gangs of raiders, settlements like megaton, they dress very similar, etc. Just visually, not plot wise. Anyone agree with that assessment?

  • @atlant80 Fallout 3 looks EXACTLY like A Boy And His Dog & Road Warrior/Mad Max & many other post-apocalyptic films from the `70s, `80s, `90s who set the precedent and defined the genre. Fallout 3 is the greatest representation of that genre in game and Book of Eli does a good job of taking from those films and incorporating an original story with social commentary on religion.

  • @GJNCA Hey, I'm a pessimistic optimist, what else can I say. My glass is half full but I'm sure someone wants to knock it out of my hand. The world would do better not to keep traveling on the road it's on though. The Industrial Revolution stunted Human Evolution.

  • Lol, a photo album?

  • would have thought the koran would end the world

  • @182511419139208 they're pretty much in the same boat

  • ben seems to hate movies

  • no he really likes movies he just hate bad movies and shows it

  • this movie is like Mad Max the Road Warrior combine with Clint Eastwood's classic western movies, character the man with no name.looks awesome.

  • @GJNCA They are part of a preparedness course for the future...you would do well to pay attention.

  • yeah plus christian propoganda.....no problem with Christians but I think its too heavy handed

  • It seems like Ben dislikes movies because it seems like the smart thing to do. "Be surly for respect" type thing. Kind of annoying.

  • He's probably just an only child.

  • Sounds like the concept and setting of the movie is a ripoff of The Road, except that this movie is a bit more escapist. The Road was a good movie but it was fucking depressing. This movie sounds like a lot more liter in tone.

  • fuck that four eyse nerd's mac book

  • I love TYT reviews!

  • Fallout 3 the movie

  • lol I thought the same thing.

  • Thank you Cenk for pointing out that far too often the female actress' in movies like this are strangly clean and 'made-up'. Plucked eyebrows and lip gloss after the apololypse? Huh? Oh, and thanks for the spoiler alert. ^_^

  • Thanks for the spoiler alert. In 1-3 minutes just start out with did you like it and why or why not. No storyline please. Was it cheesy, was it believable?

  • Is it just me or does anybody else not care if there are "spoilers" in movie/book/etc reviews? If the movie is any good, simply knowing the ending just doesn't matter to me.

  • Only one bible left??

You'd think with all the ruined motels there'd be Gideon Bibles everywhere.

But given the circumstances I'd prefer an SAS survival handbook.

  • Lol Agreed

  • apparently "the war" that they had was over religion so they burned all the bibles. Idk if its true but another review said that.

  • There are like 100 trillion Bibles in the world. How could he have the last one?
