I feed all the stray cats in my area. I tend to overfeed, so I've been getting lots of skunks. I'm grateful for them, since they clean up the leftovers, which prevents bugs, but am concerned for their health. I noticed they seem to be getting rather portly. Is cat food really bad for them? It's high quality cat food. If someone could let me know I'd appreciate it. I started putting out veggies for them as well, but I know they still eat the cat food.

From what I have read and heard from owners is cat food is very high in calories for skunks and not a great source of food for them. Hard for you to control that with the feeding situation though

@888328moni : Its illegal to keep them as pets where I'm from. Perhaps in special circumstances it might be allowable. If there was a skunk that wasn't able to survive on its own I'd gladly take care of it for the rest of its life. It would be one pampered skunk!!!

I'm too am so glad you caught him. And it speaks well of you that in a moment of crisis he trusts you and knew you were there to help. He didn't try to nip or bite at all. What a sweetie. It has been my experience that most tame scunks are not that lovey. Not mean realy, but they are not pack animals and they just need their space. You gotta respect their space if they need it.
