This was really beautiful, everyone who was involved should be very proud :) I would've liked to hear the first sopranos more centered in the notes when they got higher off the staff, but really. Lovely song.
I learned about this piece at Texas All State in 2009.. I am now here at Oral Roberts University trying to get our Chamber Singers to perform it.. and guess who is apart of our music department here... Libby Elliot. What a small world!
I enjoy the scoops and slides of the soloist. It brings out the fact that the song was originally composed and performed as a folk song of sorts, sung by soldiers and people legitimately wishing that hard times would never come again. Me like
@TrueDisciple89 yeah that's wrong notes...but this is a tough piece to sing, especially for high school...it has 8-10 part harmony in places, and with such a small choir they really did a terrific job!
@heidiclaire, this is nothing. Well, obviously it's something (amazing!), but for our school (I go to Rocky) this is pretty average for Singers. We do harmonies this big on a regular basis :)
This is gorgeous. And, I disagree with jordanwhatever, the soloist sounder abosolutely amazing. I have never heard this song, but I would like the chance to perform it someday haha.
im sorry but the soloist is good but your first are not and you have 19 guys in that choir the bass and tenor part should be coming out and your voices could sound much much more mature especially sopranos and alto lack of vowels means lack of age
I thought this was very well performed! You guys had great tone quality, wonderful straight tone (which I believe to be crutial to the success of this piece). I felt at times it was too metered, but all in a all a wonderful performance for a High School choir. CONGRATS!
I tend to be a pretty negative person, unfortunately, it was 2 AM, and I forgot to mention the good stuff. I have sung and conducted this piece a number of times already, so I just have a way of making the sound different. I am very against the all straight tone sound of it, but, I will say, you have a great quality of sound. There are a couple things that could help on intonation. this is very good for a High school choir. Sorry to be so negative earlier. Just needed to state a couple things.
I am blown away by the soloist, and the choir. This is just simply beautiful and chilling. Hard to believe this is a HS choir. Keep up the fantastic work RM Singers.

Ah, if only the camera hadn't been so loud, no one had coughed, and that one person HADN'T STARTED CLAPPING!
That recording was going to be perfect, too...
But it was still gosh darn beautiful, everyone, and I think we sealed "victory" with that piece. Thank you, Singers!

This is quite possibly the greatest choir I've ever heard in my life. Not to mention the most attractive.
