I remember listening to Harper & Gannon when I was in junior high and high school. I remember Steve's Stinky and Jack the Dog, and their "Newsmaker" skits with "Dave & Wally." I taped it quite often, and a few of those tapes I still have. I also remember Jim's playing "Charlie Lum" on TV20's "Kung Fu Theatre." I even met the two of them at a WNIC event in Hines Park in Westland.
A little context here. In 1985, Jim Harper became part owner of WDTX. It was billed as the "COOLEST" radio station in Detroit and was the talk of the town for about a month. This ad here was a disaster because Harper dressed up just like Don Johnson from "Miami Vice" which was, at the time like wearing Micheal Jackson's red leather jacket. It worked for Don but didn't for Jim. He caught hell from the DJ's on other radio stations. Dick Purtan of WCZY had a field day with it .
For me, what killed this station was Jim Harper's egotistical attitude while on WDTX. It sounded like it had finally gone to his head. When he was with Jerry St. James and Steve Gannon, he never sounded like that.
@Stevedup Better late than never Steve but I got an email from Steve Gannon several years ago which talked about his break-up with Harper and what he was up too....
@stevemichiganman not anything too good regarding his break-up with Jim Harper but I can't post any links to anything on youtube so if you want just message me your email and I'll send you a copy...

Harper and Gannon were a great duo. I remember one ad they did, where Steve dressed up as Big Boy.
