I'll tell you what happen, the whole "white people running over the native americans, white guy meets indian chick and falls in love, leading him to overthrow the white bastards" got old in hollywood. So they said, "hey lets take the same worn out story line, but put it in space!!" Which I have to admit is kind of cool.
love this clip, making the bond, the bond that we have with the nature, the bond with the planet. This is what we lack, the ability to understand nature, ignoring the environment and destroying it as a result. this movie has a very deep meaning.
I don't understand why so much people hate this movie! Its a wonderful and sad Movie, the actors and special effects are just awesome! I totally LOVE this Movie and i hope there will be a second one;)
I don't even care about the plot or the acting. Well, I care a smidgen about the acting cause its a little overthe top, but the visuals make up for everything wrong about this film.
Ok let me give it to all the haters giving bad comments, this movie is supposed to give you a message on multiple topics. 1: human nature meaning humans always wanting more than they already have. 2: how we have destroyed our world because of greed, war, and ignorance. If you can't see that's what this is telling you all are fucking stupid.
@lamrof In agreement here. They took Pocahantas, put the Native Americans on another planet and made them blue. However, they did a fantastic job with the world itself. Google "Ikran" and you'll find not only how they're used in-movie, but their social habits, how they make noise, and even how their lungs are similar to jets. They've practically made the world real, and even though the plot is mediocre at best their development is still a strong redeeming quality.
Oh my God no duh the plot is similar to Pocahontas and let me ask you why oh WHY is that so important?! Great stories are always being based off of great stories, just get over it!
i hope in the sequel cameron shows that jake has a bit of guilt in him for killing humans and going against them. it will add emotion and more character build up.
even if avatar is kind of like pocahontas, it's still really good. Who really cares about the similarities anyway, lots of movies are slightly based on other stories, like The Lion King and Hamlet.
@deathguy167 Well at one point in history people would have considered it "weird" for humans to marry different races (i.e. a black man and a white woman). Now it's completely normal.
the story is ok, but what really sucks about this.. first off, life on a planet independent of Earth, evolving into basically humans, whereas they could have evolved into anything, not only animals and plants.. lack of imagination. also, English speaking human shaped bipedal, bimanal 'aliens' .. and second, this isn't just Avatar, but every movie lately seems to get the idea that 'if you can't make it good, make it 3D' ... terrible
what's so great about this movie? i mean i wouldnt hate it as much as i do if it didnt beat titanic, there are 100 movies i could think off that could easily beat titanic and avatar, BTW i loved titanic, amazing movie, this... NO just NO! Someone make a movie that beats Avatar's record please! It doesn;t have what it takes to be number 1....
Worthless film. Plagiarism aside, it's simplistic, reductionistic, and unbelievably manipulative, and the way that it handles the issues that it presents is just sickening.
The next time that you watch it, try turning your brain on for longer than two seconds; you might (assuming that you aren't too far gone) see it for the sham that it is.
The Na'vi language was developed specifically for the film by a linguist named Paul Frommer. There are resources on the web to learn more, e.g. l e a r n n a v i . o r g.
Wow brutal comments sections here. Im not here to express any love or hate for the story, I just think the animation is incredible, and the creature design is amazing in this clip.
Who cares if Avatar is similar to whatever movie? Just focus on the fact that it's a wonderful movie with a beautiful plot, a BEYOND amazing soundtrack, wonderful graphics, and great actors who gave their all and then some. If you insist on whining or bitching about it or trying to compare it to something else, then you have issues. :]
One of the big difrences betwean Avatar and Pocahontas is time frame refrence , Avatar takes place in the future and Pocahontas takes place in our past , with Pocahontas we can try and reason that these events from the past are no longer an issue , Avatar can not be looked at from this reasoning as its a symboilc warning from the future of the path humanity is headed down, though the film is fantasy its examples are very hard to deny as people can easly relate to what is shown by example
so the culture of the navi revolves around forcing various animals (and even trees) to the ground, forcing their mouths shut and forcibly "connecting" to them with phallic like objects that they also use for sex. as someone whos part native american i find it insulting this is what you think were like.
@pyramidheadkitten9 Tha NaVi are a fantasy example of comon Hunter gatherer indigious peoples , just like the horse tribes of mongolia etc as with many other tribes they undergo a rite of manhood cermony in the case of the NaVi both men and women are involved , the chosing of a Ikran (banshee) is like the breaking of a horse it is part of that cermony ,the Bond (called Tsahaylu) shows the close conection they have with the world around them in which all life is "conected" (story example)
@pyramidheadkitten9 Its a comon misconseption that the Queue is a sex organ , the fantasy NaVi race are mamauls just like us and yes they have "seperate" sex organs the queue is a Neural Bond link "not" a so called Dick
Those who say Avatar is a rip off of Dances with Wolves should know that Dw/W is a ripoff of Aldous Huxley's novel 'Island', a story about a journalist that lands on a utopian island that is targeted by oil companies for drilling. The journalist needs to get the inhabitants to let the company drill, but he changes his mind after learning the island's ways. BTW, this novel came out in 1962! The story template Avatar uses goes farther back than people think.
@BlackLeather92 thats the same argument warcraft fans use when people say its a rip off of warhammer. yes, warhammer itself is just a rip off of dungeons and dragons, that doesnt make warcraft any more original.
this movie is soooooooooooooooooooo overrated and should not be sitting pretty at the top of the box office charts as there are far greater films that deserve that accolade
Learning to fly an Ikran (Of course fantasy creature) is symbolic of the coming of age cermony that many tribal peoples practice its something that a Na'Vi Hunter must earn the right to do and shows the growth and Social integration that Jake goes through as he learns and relates to there culture. though fantasy it is a very good example of what its like to walk in anothers shoes and learn that what we are told is not allways what is true. this is but one reason people "relate" to avatar
i think james cameron shouldve edit it out all the scenes with that bald soldier guy because all his lines where corny and useless. great film but that bald guy isnt great if fact not even good.
Wow, I never realized how corny the dialogue in this movie was until I saw this clip the second time. "MAKE THE BOND!!!" really? that was the most epic thing you could think of making her say at that part? [sigh] o well, still a good movie.
@MzDani92 One of the big issues with avatar is that the orignal version of the movie leaves a lot of dark areas in jakes life life on earth and what hapened on pandora before he got there this might better explain some of the dialog and the interaction of humans with the Na'vi people, the directors cut version does does a better job at this but fewer people have seen it, the orignal movie has content showing jake on earth but only time will tell if this improves the story
@123allrock Somewhat true. Some of the dialogue in the beginning gives an idea to what happened to Jake on Earth. Somehow, Jake lost use of his legs and ended up in a VA hospital. Most likely in a war, because Quatrich mentioned he had fought in Venezula. After doing a litte research online, you'd find where James Cameron released a few extra details. One of them the murder of Neytiri's sister by the soldiers, which led to the closing Grace's school.
@pennydesouza -Dude! Come on. Can't we all just...get along?
He's an American dude on an alien world. It could've been way worse. They could've played techno music when he said it, then brought in some electric guitar to try and giveit 'pop'-appeal...
@Bimfirestarter You make a good point that 'Let's dance!' is something an ordinary American guy might say in that situation.
Buuuut... this is cinema, and bog standard realism should perhaps be eschewed in favour of something more exciting and interesting - especially in a film like this...
As breathtaking as the spectacle was, this was nothing more than a 2 1/2 hr-long commercial to promote Cameron's technology. I swear to God, it's like he wrote the script on a cocktail napkin in an Embers late one night. The idea that anyone could have thought there was anything original in the story, is totally lost on me. Watch Titanic, District 9, Dances With Wolves, Ferngully, Aliens, The Abyss, Terminator, old 9/11 clips, Return of the Jedi, Terminators 1 & 2, or even the Matrix instead.
AVATAR really isn't that similar to Pocahontas. For one, John Smith didn't ever "become" one of the Native Americans, never fought for them, etc. All he did was fall in love with a native and then later got shipped off to England. It's a shame people see all movies involving indigenous-westerner relationships as effing copies of Pocahontas. Really, people.
Oh yeah, and James Cameron was working on the AVATAR script before Pocahontas was even released.
so what if the plot is somewhat similar to Pocahontas ? It doesnt make the movie any less great.. if you were entertained while watching the movie then id say fuck whatever it is similar too be it porn or Pocahontas.. i mean.. come on? -_-
@clonard thank you :) personally this is one of the best movies ive seen... it may have a cheesy disney plot.. but i like it.. and seriously.. what else would it be about? James Cameron could have made a shock ending and have the humans destroy Pandora, and bring a message through the film "look what the people of the earth does to everything" ish... that wouldnt have been satisfying.. the movie needs the cheesy disney plot.. and i think it carries it out greatly.. the movie is fantastic :D
@issipigen let people bitch about how it's similar...it's impossible to be 100% original anymore, you can take any movie and compare it to anything else in some way/shape or form. The ONLY similarities this has with pocahontis is the whole 'boy from industrious world meets wild girl who shows him nature is beautiful and not worth distroying' aside that, NOTHING is similar.
@Jexyss You are most correct again :D I was so fortunate this christmas to become the owner of the Avatar Collectors Edition.. and oh man x] must have it only makes it so much better :D if i wasn't obsessed with this movie before.. i deffinately am now x]
Copycatting is why I didnt like the 2nd version of Transformers- Revenge of the Fallen. the mini bots, were too much like the Gremlins, the sexy girl alien decepticon ? Too much like "Species", tons of rips off. THIS movie, "Avatar" is by far one of the best ever made. Much like Jurassic park was back in 1993. Very Inventive.
@TrinketStarFire "Copycatting is why I didnt like the 2nd version of Transformers- Revenge of the Fallen"
Sure, I agree with what you said about Transformers 2, but Avatar isn't that great either. The film had terrible writing, the story was unoriginal and there was poor character development.
Avatar was just like Pocohantas and Dances with Wolves, just presented in a little more immature fashion.
@JakobM325 you said " The message is -If we don't take care of what is left form our Earth, we will destroy it Like the RDA tryied in on Pandora:
-- Human Kind wont learn that lesson till we no longer have a planet that grows our food, and clean water to drink. When the earth is so poluted she can no longer support human life. Mankind does not change till they are on the brink of extiction. Till then; it's just yelling into consumptive deaf ears.
i dont get why everyone gets so worked up at how avatar's story line is a so called rip off of other movies, for fuck sake, every bloody romantic comedy has the exact same fucken storey line with a few different minor details, but people still go and see them, who gives a shit it was fucken mean
This movie reminded me so much of World of Warcraft...I couldn't believe how some places were strikingly similar. My friend actually thought when we first saw a clip from Aavatar last year that this was much anticipated warcraft movie. There are areas in WoW called Zangarmarsh,Nagrand and Terrokar which are very similar, also Na'vi look like some strange combination of draenei, night elves and trolls from the game, night elves also live around world tree. There is also similar flying mount in WoW.
@yfrede697879 yep, right under a hundred of other movies! why don't you see some other great movies, before you say that. The Dark Knight, The Lord of the Rings, Schindler's List, Memento, The Departed, No Country for Old Men, Wall-E, Up, and more recently, Toy Story 3 and Inception
These are all movies that are WAY better than Avatar
Without the visuals, Avatar is just an average movie
@KayWildcat k thats a matter of opinion n no one gives a shit about urs, dont comment on other pples comments just for a fight.. im only commenting to tell u wats right
@NeytiriAndJakeAvatar Let me explain something. Would you say Old Dogs is better than Avatar? Whether you do or not doesn't matter, because as you said, it's all a matter of opinion. However, Avatar IS the better film. It always depends on the audience to choose which they like better, but that doesn't change the fact that Avatar is the better made film (ex. 2 & 3. Whichever you like, 3 is bigger).
Same with this. I loved those more (opinion) and they ARE better films than Avatar (fact).
@KayWildcat k lol i dont care ok? just mind ur own busniss and i doubt any of that is true, why do u think there putting avatar back into theatres? cuz people loved it so much, its rare that they do that, so all what u said is crap. and if it were true, which i REALLY doubt, where did u find it out? google? lol
@NeytiriAndJakeAvatar "why do u think there putting avatar back into theatres? cuz people loved it so much, its rare that they do that" Nope. It is rare that they do that, but it all depends on business and production choices. Avatar has made over 2.7 billion dollar, so now the production company is at Cameron's feet. Apparantly Cameron has collected 8 minutes of more footage and wants to put it out. Personally, I think that's pathetic. Spider-Man 2 had 8 minutes more too, but that came on DVD
@KayWildcat its not only about that, people also wanted to see it in 3d again, so there putting it out there again, ya okay it also has to do with that, but its not the only reason. u think if people hated it and it sucked that they would put it out again? i dont think so.
@KayWildcat The bottomline is Avatar was selling out when it got kicked out theaters. I also seem to recall The Dark Knight re-releasing in theaters, but no one seemed to mind that. Avatar is a truly unique cinematic experience and I feel bad for people who couldn't enjoy it for what it was. It's great they're giving people a chance to catch it again on the big screen. If you don't wanna see it again, then don't.
@FlightoftheSpeedKing That's because The Dark Knight wasn't advertised. Another factor is, there was nothing to see for it. The theatre hype was over and then it was time for the DVD release. The thing about Avatar is, it has "8 minutes more" which fools people into going to see it.
"Avatar is a truly unique cinematic experience" -- It was and I enjoyed it for what it was.The film was an incredible visual presentation, but not a quality film. Not the best. Apart from the CGI, nothing special.
@NeytiriAndJakeAvatar The re-release is all for business, but yes many people did love Avatar. Clearly you did, and I did too. Like you said, it's all about opinion. And the world craved Avatar. If you ask me for my top ten movies of 2009, Avatar would be in there somewhere. However, it isn't the best and it could be done much better. Just think about this calmly, without the visuals, what is left? A poor script. An unoriginal plot. Nothing special.
@KayWildcat yes, it is the best it could be, and if it isnt, why dont u become a director and make a 'better' copy of it. with out the visuals, how would we have an alien, and it was there choice for the visuals, they cud make the planet very dark but they didnt. without the the visuals the movie is still great. unoriginal? name me at least 4 movies where the aliens were good n the bad were humans, how some human went against their own raise, n how a human fell in love with an alien.
It isn't the best it could, but it is a great movie and that's what I am saying. The point is, give me all that money and I'll make Avatar easily. Give anyone that budget and anyone could make it. Keeping Pocohantas in mind, while modifying it to science fiction. The dialogue was terrible. I don't know about me making a better copy of it, but it isn't a movie that only Cameron can make like Aliens, T1, T2
@KayWildcat lol never saw those movies or heard of them so they cant be that good, except for pocohanas, but she isnt an alien, i know that so u must be lying. u got nothing, give it up, and whats t1 and t2? more movies? and how wud the movie be better? what wud u change?
@NeytiriAndJakeAvatar Wow. You never heard of them? That means you don't watch many movies. Second of all, you judging films on their popularity is pathetic. When I said T1 & T2, I was talking about the Terminator movies. And Pocohantas not being an alien isn't the point. The point is Avatar is has the exact same plot as Pocohantas. So does the 3 movies I've listed.
@KayWildcat lol i know about pocohantas but never saw it, and do you have a problem with that? and yes i do watch many movies, the popular ones and not the ones from the 80's cheap list. so tell me, since i never saw the movies, whats the plot? that means that pocohantas, dances with wolves, ferngully, and the last samurai are all the same and have the same plot, so there unoriginal too? and dont call me pathetic. and which other way do you judge movies then ?
@NeytiriAndJakeAvatar Pocohantas is based on real events. And it is original in its terms. As for The Last Samurai and the others, they are original because they present similar aspects in completley different ways. While Avatar borrows story elements from all, while making a film exactly like Pocohantas. Do you want to know what makes Avatar so silmilar to Pocohantas. Well here:
@NeytiriAndJakeAvatar The protagonist (Smith/Sully) arives in the new world of North America/Pandora. The settlers are mining for gold/unobtanium under supervision of Governor Ratcliffe/Colonel Quaritch. Smith/Sully starts exploring and meets Pocohantas/Neytiri. At first she is distrustful of him, but a message from grandma Willow/the Tree of Souls helps her overcome her trepidation......
@NeytiriAndJakeAvatar ...The two start to spend time together. Pocohantas/Neytiri teaches John Smith/Jake Sully that all life is valuable and how nature is connected to the circle of life. Furthermore, she teaches him how to hunt, grow crops/tame dragons and of her culture. We find that her father is Chief Powhatan/Eytrucan and that she is set to be marry Kocoum/Tsu'tey, a great warrior, but a serious man who Pocohantas/Neytiri does not desire....
@NeytiriAndJakeAvatar In time, John/Jake and Pocohantas/Neytiri find that they love each other. Back at the settlement, the men believe that the natives/Na'vi are savages and they plan to attack them for their gold/ubotanium. Kocoum/Tsu'tey tries to kill John/Jake out of jealousy, but ends up getting killed by the settlers. As they are about to be attacked, John/Jake is blamed by the natives/Na'vi and is sentenced to death. Just before they were going to kill him, the settler arrive...
@NeytiriAndJakeAvatar Cheif Powhatan/Eytucan is killed and John/Jake sustains injuries from Ratecliffe/Quaritch who is then killed. Pocohantas/Neytiri saves John/Jake. John/Jake and Pocohantas/Neytiri finally have each other and the two cultures resolve their differences.
Little in common?!! I think not. Despite the very small differences, it literally is an uncredited remake of Pocohantas, except the difference is, Pocohantas is better
@KayWildcat alright, pocohantas is similar to avatar, but it doesnt mean its better, thats ur opinion again. and u said that pocohantas, dances with wolves, ferngully, and the last samurai are all like avatar, so what? that means they all have the same plot, and does that mean that they are unoriginal?
@NeytiriAndJakeAvatar No, because they all ae presented differently. With different cinematic screenplay while Avatar is exactly like Pocohantas while it takes different aspects from the other. You really have to watch other films. Calling the films from the 80s cheap is dumb. They are mostly classics and pure while the films released now are mostly garbage.
By the way, I explained this many times before:
Pocohantas is better than Avatar in my opinion and it is better than Avatar as a fact.
@KayWildcat how do you know as a fact? and stop saying that what im saying is dumb and pathetic. im just young, and im into more recent movies, and not the old ones. and the released now arent garbage, most of them arent. some are realy stupid, but ones like avatar are amazing. and i do watch other films, i just never heard of the films you listed, except for pocohantas, of course, its a disney movie.
@NeytiriAndJakeAvatar I'm sorry if I have offended you, but most of the films that have released now is garbage. Ecspecially this summer. The only two good (amazing) movies are Toy Story 3 and Inception. Everything else was terrible.
Anyways, Avatar is great. I just hope Cameron doesn't make a sequel. It doesn't need one. He should just make a whole new film.
Anyways, there are so many better films than Avatar that don't get their credit that they deserve. Avatar had enough of its praise.
@KayWildcat ya but i think he will, i hope so lol cuz i really fell in love with avatar <3 anyways, there are lots of good films, but to me avatars the best, but thats just my opinion.
@NeytiriAndJakeAvatar Well, it's not the idea of Avatar 2 is bad, but what would he do? I have seen a lot of bad sequels (A LOT), so if Cameron doesn't make a good film to continue the bar set for Avatar it would really be disppointing.
But I shouldn't be too worried, since Cameron does know how to deliver.
I wouldn't say the best, I still like Cameron's Terminator (1 and 2) and Aliens better. But like you said, it's my opinion
@KayWildcat ya, but i hope that he will make them have kids, that would be cute :) im pretty sure he will pull it off, but the first ones are always the best
@NeytiriAndJakeAvatar Avatar is VERY similar to Pocohantas. You must come to understand that. I'm afraid, not many people connected to that message. Only the visuals.
Pocohantas is way better, and presents a much better script, characters, acting (voice acting) and all in all a better value for its message
@KayWildcat and once again, saying the script is terrible, the characters are one dimensional, the story is unoriginal, and the acting could be better, is YOUR opinion, and no one gives a shit.
@KayWildcat There's no more stupid argument than "without the visuals, it's just an average movie." Your taking one of the biggest aspects of the movie and dismissing it. It's like saying "without the groundbreaking FX, Star Wars is average." Part of what makes it great IS those FX, same with Avatar. I could maybe understand if the FX were used for explosions and destruction like 2012, but Avatar was largely about exploring a sci-fi world. It would be totally different without the visuals.
@FlightoftheSpeedKing No what I meant is, if you look at the movie apart from the visuals, the film is nothing. The story is unoriginal and the script is terrible. These are one of the most important factors of filmmaking. Avatar only being good for visuals shows that it isn't a "quality" film and that it isn't the best film ever.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Jesus, all i can say is cinema has stooped to a new low if this is what's considered a masterpiece. You people should really check out films like Funny Games, Mulholland Drive, Dead Man, Oldboy, Let The Right One In, Hannah Takes The Stairs for films that really have something to offer. And for christ sake computer animation is a gimmick, one that should not be credited, especially not for a cinematography oscar for christ sake. Tarantino should have it hands down for inglourious.
@DumpOnAss jeeeeze your full of shit mate, i bet your never seen this film even, if you had you'd know avatar is the single greatest piece of cinema since spiderman 2, and that's saying something because pirates of the Caribbean 3 was masterful,
hey everyone, fuck this tool, you seen his videos? the guys an idiot, have a watch if you fancy soiling yourself in disgust!
@DumpOnAss Those films you listed are amazing movies, and I wouldn't say Avatar is a masterpiece, but why can't you like them all? Like any form of art , CGI is a craft. It's no more a gimmick then stop-motion was back in the da, it's simply the new route of achieving FX in films. And as great as those films are, none of them comes close to Avatar as an essential theatrical experience. Never has a film been so rich and detailed in world-building, and for that alone it deserves praise.
BUT BE WARNED. DO NOT BUY THE DVD. BUY THE MOVIE FOR YOUR IPOD. Avatar is being rereleased into Theatres in August, and then a double DVD is being released for the Holidays, that will be better than the one out now. But, if you want a DVD still, I am selling my copy for $16. Reply to me if you are interested in purchasing it
i saw this in 3d, and watching this 2d clip for the first time, its so different! if you think this looks real, then you should of seen it in 3d, it was absolutely incredible, i don't know how people can create those kind of real life images on a computer, its crazy!

Tsu'tey speaks the following Na'vi phrases in this clip:
To Jake: Tsamsiyu! Txopu rä'ä si, tsamsiyu! (Warrior!. Don't be afraid warrior!)
To young warrior [mocking Jake]: Tsakem rä'ä si. (Don't do that) [i.e. don't do what Jake is doing]
To young warrior [Again, mocking Jake]: Tìyerkup skxawng. (That moron's going to die.)
To Jake: Txopu rä'ä si, tsamsiyu! (Don't be afraid warrior!)

@AungiaTaEywa Don't tell me they actually invented a Na'vi language like they did with Clingon?
dansimmons21 11 months ago
@dansimmons21
The Na'vi language was developed specifically for the film by a linguist named Paul Frommer. There are resources on the web to learn more, e.g. l e a r n n a v i . o r g.

shizuka139 1 year ago

BlackLeather92 1 year ago
@BlackLeather92 thats the same argument warcraft fans use when people say its a rip off of warhammer. yes, warhammer itself is just a rip off of dungeons and dragons, that doesnt make warcraft any more original.

HomieG75 1 year ago
@HomieG75 lol.. the thing the critics critized the most about Avatar was its dialogue.
MzDani92 1 year ago
@MzDani92 One of the big issues with avatar is that the orignal version of the movie leaves a lot of dark areas in jakes life life on earth and what hapened on pandora before he got there this might better explain some of the dialog and the interaction of humans with the Na'vi people, the directors cut version does does a better job at this but fewer people have seen it, the orignal movie has content showing jake on earth but only time will tell if this improves the story
123allrock 1 year ago
@123allrock Somewhat true. Some of the dialogue in the beginning gives an idea to what happened to Jake on Earth. Somehow, Jake lost use of his legs and ended up in a VA hospital. Most likely in a war, because Quatrich mentioned he had fought in Venezula. After doing a litte research online, you'd find where James Cameron released a few extra details. One of them the murder of Neytiri's sister by the soldiers, which led to the closing Grace's school.
MzDani92 1 year ago
Dialogue like 'Let's dance!' completely ruins the astonishing visuals.

@Bimfirestarter You make a good point that 'Let's dance!' is something an ordinary American guy might say in that situation.
Buuuut... this is cinema, and bog standard realism should perhaps be eschewed in favour of something more exciting and interesting - especially in a film like this...
pennydesouza 1 year ago
As breathtaking as the spectacle was, this was nothing more than a 2 1/2 hr-long commercial to promote Cameron's technology. I swear to God, it's like he wrote the script on a cocktail napkin in an Embers late one night. The idea that anyone could have thought there was anything original in the story, is totally lost on me. Watch Titanic, District 9, Dances With Wolves, Ferngully, Aliens, The Abyss, Terminator, old 9/11 clips, Return of the Jedi, Terminators 1 & 2, or even the Matrix instead.
thufirguy 1 year ago
AVATAR really isn't that similar to Pocahontas. For one, John Smith didn't ever "become" one of the Native Americans, never fought for them, etc. All he did was fall in love with a native and then later got shipped off to England. It's a shame people see all movies involving indigenous-westerner relationships as effing copies of Pocahontas. Really, people.
Oh yeah, and James Cameron was working on the AVATAR script before Pocahontas was even released.

Avatar had nothing to offer besides it's CGI.
Don't get offended though...

@KayWildcat k thats a matter of opinion n no one gives a shit about urs, dont comment on other pples comments just for a fight.. im only commenting to tell u wats right
NeytiriAndJakeAvatar 1 year ago
@NeytiriAndJakeAvatar Let me explain something. Would you say Old Dogs is better than Avatar? Whether you do or not doesn't matter, because as you said, it's all a matter of opinion. However, Avatar IS the better film. It always depends on the audience to choose which they like better, but that doesn't change the fact that Avatar is the better made film (ex. 2 & 3. Whichever you like, 3 is bigger).
Same with this. I loved those more (opinion) and they ARE better films than Avatar (fact).
KayWildcat 1 year ago
@KayWildcat k lol i dont care ok? just mind ur own busniss and i doubt any of that is true, why do u think there putting avatar back into theatres? cuz people loved it so much, its rare that they do that, so all what u said is crap. and if it were true, which i REALLY doubt, where did u find it out? google? lol
NeytiriAndJakeAvatar 1 year ago
@NeytiriAndJakeAvatar "why do u think there putting avatar back into theatres? cuz people loved it so much, its rare that they do that" Nope. It is rare that they do that, but it all depends on business and production choices. Avatar has made over 2.7 billion dollar, so now the production company is at Cameron's feet. Apparantly Cameron has collected 8 minutes of more footage and wants to put it out. Personally, I think that's pathetic. Spider-Man 2 had 8 minutes more too, but that came on DVD
KayWildcat 1 year ago
@KayWildcat its not only about that, people also wanted to see it in 3d again, so there putting it out there again, ya okay it also has to do with that, but its not the only reason. u think if people hated it and it sucked that they would put it out again? i dont think so.
NeytiriAndJakeAvatar 1 year ago
@KayWildcat The bottomline is Avatar was selling out when it got kicked out theaters. I also seem to recall The Dark Knight re-releasing in theaters, but no one seemed to mind that. Avatar is a truly unique cinematic experience and I feel bad for people who couldn't enjoy it for what it was. It's great they're giving people a chance to catch it again on the big screen. If you don't wanna see it again, then don't.
FlightoftheSpeedKing 1 year ago
@FlightoftheSpeedKing That's because The Dark Knight wasn't advertised. Another factor is, there was nothing to see for it. The theatre hype was over and then it was time for the DVD release. The thing about Avatar is, it has "8 minutes more" which fools people into going to see it.
"Avatar is a truly unique cinematic experience" -- It was and I enjoyed it for what it was.The film was an incredible visual presentation, but not a quality film. Not the best. Apart from the CGI, nothing special.
KayWildcat 1 year ago
@NeytiriAndJakeAvatar The re-release is all for business, but yes many people did love Avatar. Clearly you did, and I did too. Like you said, it's all about opinion. And the world craved Avatar. If you ask me for my top ten movies of 2009, Avatar would be in there somewhere. However, it isn't the best and it could be done much better. Just think about this calmly, without the visuals, what is left? A poor script. An unoriginal plot. Nothing special.
Oh and the end of your 1st comment you rhymed
KayWildcat 1 year ago
@KayWildcat yes, it is the best it could be, and if it isnt, why dont u become a director and make a 'better' copy of it. with out the visuals, how would we have an alien, and it was there choice for the visuals, they cud make the planet very dark but they didnt. without the the visuals the movie is still great. unoriginal? name me at least 4 movies where the aliens were good n the bad were humans, how some human went against their own raise, n how a human fell in love with an alien.
NeytiriAndJakeAvatar 1 year ago
@NeytiriAndJakeAvatar
Pocohantas
Dances with Wolves
FernGully
The Last Samurai
It isn't the best it could, but it is a great movie and that's what I am saying. The point is, give me all that money and I'll make Avatar easily. Give anyone that budget and anyone could make it. Keeping Pocohantas in mind, while modifying it to science fiction. The dialogue was terrible. I don't know about me making a better copy of it, but it isn't a movie that only Cameron can make like Aliens, T1, T2
KayWildcat 1 year ago
@KayWildcat lol never saw those movies or heard of them so they cant be that good, except for pocohanas, but she isnt an alien, i know that so u must be lying. u got nothing, give it up, and whats t1 and t2? more movies? and how wud the movie be better? what wud u change?
NeytiriAndJakeAvatar 1 year ago
@NeytiriAndJakeAvatar Wow. You never heard of them? That means you don't watch many movies. Second of all, you judging films on their popularity is pathetic. When I said T1 & T2, I was talking about the Terminator movies. And Pocohantas not being an alien isn't the point. The point is Avatar is has the exact same plot as Pocohantas. So does the 3 movies I've listed.
The script is terrible.
The characters are one dimensional
The story is unoriginal
The acting could be better, except for Zoe
KayWildcat 1 year ago
@KayWildcat lol i know about pocohantas but never saw it, and do you have a problem with that? and yes i do watch many movies, the popular ones and not the ones from the 80's cheap list. so tell me, since i never saw the movies, whats the plot? that means that pocohantas, dances with wolves, ferngully, and the last samurai are all the same and have the same plot, so there unoriginal too? and dont call me pathetic. and which other way do you judge movies then ?
NeytiriAndJakeAvatar 1 year ago
@NeytiriAndJakeAvatar Pocohantas is based on real events. And it is original in its terms. As for The Last Samurai and the others, they are original because they present similar aspects in completley different ways. While Avatar borrows story elements from all, while making a film exactly like Pocohantas. Do you want to know what makes Avatar so silmilar to Pocohantas. Well here:
KayWildcat 1 year ago
@NeytiriAndJakeAvatar The protagonist (Smith/Sully) arives in the new world of North America/Pandora. The settlers are mining for gold/unobtanium under supervision of Governor Ratcliffe/Colonel Quaritch. Smith/Sully starts exploring and meets Pocohantas/Neytiri. At first she is distrustful of him, but a message from grandma Willow/the Tree of Souls helps her overcome her trepidation......
KayWildcat 1 year ago
@NeytiriAndJakeAvatar ...The two start to spend time together. Pocohantas/Neytiri teaches John Smith/Jake Sully that all life is valuable and how nature is connected to the circle of life. Furthermore, she teaches him how to hunt, grow crops/tame dragons and of her culture. We find that her father is Chief Powhatan/Eytrucan and that she is set to be marry Kocoum/Tsu'tey, a great warrior, but a serious man who Pocohantas/Neytiri does not desire....
KayWildcat 1 year ago
@NeytiriAndJakeAvatar In time, John/Jake and Pocohantas/Neytiri find that they love each other. Back at the settlement, the men believe that the natives/Na'vi are savages and they plan to attack them for their gold/ubotanium. Kocoum/Tsu'tey tries to kill John/Jake out of jealousy, but ends up getting killed by the settlers. As they are about to be attacked, John/Jake is blamed by the natives/Na'vi and is sentenced to death. Just before they were going to kill him, the settler arrive...
KayWildcat 1 year ago
@NeytiriAndJakeAvatar Cheif Powhatan/Eytucan is killed and John/Jake sustains injuries from Ratecliffe/Quaritch who is then killed. Pocohantas/Neytiri saves John/Jake. John/Jake and Pocohantas/Neytiri finally have each other and the two cultures resolve their differences.
Little in common?!! I think not. Despite the very small differences, it literally is an uncredited remake of Pocohantas, except the difference is, Pocohantas is better
KayWildcat 1 year ago
@KayWildcat alright, pocohantas is similar to avatar, but it doesnt mean its better, thats ur opinion again. and u said that pocohantas, dances with wolves, ferngully, and the last samurai are all like avatar, so what? that means they all have the same plot, and does that mean that they are unoriginal?
NeytiriAndJakeAvatar 1 year ago
@NeytiriAndJakeAvatar No, because they all ae presented differently. With different cinematic screenplay while Avatar is exactly like Pocohantas while it takes different aspects from the other. You really have to watch other films. Calling the films from the 80s cheap is dumb. They are mostly classics and pure while the films released now are mostly garbage.
By the way, I explained this many times before:
Pocohantas is better than Avatar in my opinion and it is better than Avatar as a fact.
KayWildcat 1 year ago
@KayWildcat how do you know as a fact? and stop saying that what im saying is dumb and pathetic. im just young, and im into more recent movies, and not the old ones. and the released now arent garbage, most of them arent. some are realy stupid, but ones like avatar are amazing. and i do watch other films, i just never heard of the films you listed, except for pocohantas, of course, its a disney movie.
NeytiriAndJakeAvatar 1 year ago
@NeytiriAndJakeAvatar I'm sorry if I have offended you, but most of the films that have released now is garbage. Ecspecially this summer. The only two good (amazing) movies are Toy Story 3 and Inception. Everything else was terrible.
Anyways, Avatar is great. I just hope Cameron doesn't make a sequel. It doesn't need one. He should just make a whole new film.
Anyways, there are so many better films than Avatar that don't get their credit that they deserve. Avatar had enough of its praise.
KayWildcat 1 year ago
@KayWildcat ya but i think he will, i hope so lol cuz i really fell in love with avatar <3 anyways, there are lots of good films, but to me avatars the best, but thats just my opinion.
NeytiriAndJakeAvatar 1 year ago
@NeytiriAndJakeAvatar Well, it's not the idea of Avatar 2 is bad, but what would he do? I have seen a lot of bad sequels (A LOT), so if Cameron doesn't make a good film to continue the bar set for Avatar it would really be disppointing.
But I shouldn't be too worried, since Cameron does know how to deliver.
I wouldn't say the best, I still like Cameron's Terminator (1 and 2) and Aliens better. But like you said, it's my opinion
KayWildcat 1 year ago

@NeytiriAndJakeAvatar Avatar is VERY similar to Pocohantas. You must come to understand that. I'm afraid, not many people connected to that message. Only the visuals.
Pocohantas is way better, and presents a much better script, characters, acting (voice acting) and all in all a better value for its message
KayWildcat 1 year ago
@KayWildcat and once again, saying the script is terrible, the characters are one dimensional, the story is unoriginal, and the acting could be better, is YOUR opinion, and no one gives a shit.
NeytiriAndJakeAvatar 1 year ago
@NeytiriAndJakeAvatar I already explained the difference between opinions already.
Yes, this is MY opinion, but it is a true fact at the same time.
KayWildcat 1 year ago
@KayWildcat There's no more stupid argument than "without the visuals, it's just an average movie." Your taking one of the biggest aspects of the movie and dismissing it. It's like saying "without the groundbreaking FX, Star Wars is average." Part of what makes it great IS those FX, same with Avatar. I could maybe understand if the FX were used for explosions and destruction like 2012, but Avatar was largely about exploring a sci-fi world. It would be totally different without the visuals.
FlightoftheSpeedKing 1 year ago
@FlightoftheSpeedKing No what I meant is, if you look at the movie apart from the visuals, the film is nothing. The story is unoriginal and the script is terrible. These are one of the most important factors of filmmaking. Avatar only being good for visuals shows that it isn't a "quality" film and that it isn't the best film ever.

@DumpOnAss
So, you think a movie like this could have been made without cgi?
