  • yea the a/c is the black cylinder sitting by the heater hoses

  • My 96' GMC 1500 is basic like this, only my radio actually has FM.lol This would be a really good project truck, becuz there is no way this should stay this way.lol

  • Looks like a good project to work on.

  • Actually the inline continued up to 1996 then in 1997 they came out with the 4.2l V6 that are in Ford trucks today

  • This 1992 model is pretty good for its age. Price isnt too bad either.

  • nice truck but it does need a little work. but a good truck

  • my dad has a 92 F150 and the gas pedal doesnt feel to sensitive to me

  • Nice truck, Have one my self. But i Love that AM only radio, great find

  • Nice truck, Have one my self

  • More like I bought this brand old, lol

  • retrochad i have a question is your 1992 ford pickup truck 4 wheel drive or 2 wheel drive? because my dad has one but it is only 2 wheel drive.please respond to me.

  • @gaming221 only 2wd

  • @gaming221 its 2wd dude. Look at 0:31

  • wow thats low miles fr the year and low miles for an i6

  • Put spinners on that bitch and put some 2 kenwood subs in the back. and clean it up and pimp it out

  • foe 600 dollars it is okay

  • oh yea the interferance is probally caused by the fan from the ac/heat

  • verry nice im glad you like your truck i have a 93 super cab v8 4x4 139,000 miles and my friend has the same one but 97 real nice trucks i enjoyed your video always like to see a man happy with his truck

  • @ron29ful 97 is a different body style, unless its a f250 or f350. So no, your friend doesn't have the same but in a 97... get your facts straight before you start telling stories kid..

  • verry nice im glad you like your truck i have a 93 super cab v8 4x4 139,000 miles and my friend has the same one but 97 real nice trucks i enjoyed your video always like to see a man happy with his truck

  • Those engines are as tuff as nails!!! I had a one, I just couldn't kill it. I drove mine for fifteen years and sold it. Dumbest thing I ever done. I envy you!!

  • i have a 93 with the stick shift and i have power windows though and a fm radio also. same truck man. also has the straight six engine.

  • lucky bastard lol

  • Do u still drive it or is it just sitting?

  • @TheDataZoo No, we continue to drive it every week.

  • if you get 10 mpg you need a tune up or something my friend has one with 4 wheel drive and same motor and he gets in the 20's with his

  • haha i picked one up for 700, and it doesnt take a key, have a muffler, or doorhandles.

  • Nice truck, I hope your getting better than 10 mpg...my 460 gets about 8 in town and 14 on the highway.

  • nice truckkk

  • super clean just kidding but its a nice work truck

  • DUDE i have a 92 ford i bought for 12 hundred... its an automatic tho

  • what kinda MPG are you getting with this truck? I'm getting about 16 with a 4.3 v-6 gmc and am thinking of switching to this type of vehicle.

  • @couchebag I think I'm getting about 10 MPG with mostly highway driving...I'll try and calculate it again though just to be sure.

  • @retrochad Thanks, that might explain why I see so many good condiiton low mile examples going so cheap. Maybe the grass isn't greener...

  • @retrochad you are one like sucker. 600.00 $ for that piece of american enginear. I hope you enjoy it a lot.

  • @estesoyojajaja By the way, nice truck.

  • @couchebag that 4.6 is one of the toughest engines money could buy, but it's not that great on gas mileage. my '89 F-250 302 V-8 got around 15 highway.

  • @couchebag hey i was just commenting on your post bout the MPG. i have this same exact truck and its a straight 6 not a v 6 and its a 4.9L. but it gets about 12 MPG all around

  • @couchebag i have a 92 v-8 351 and im getting 16-17 city

  • You´ve got a good pick up truck for just 600 bucks. That is something amazing. It would be great if we could find bargains like this one in my country, Argentina. I own an 1992 F-150 spacecab V8 4X4 XLT (made in USA), but the tiny difference is that I paid 16K (american dollars) for it...

And you may know how hard is to get a buck down here!

    Congratulations on your new truck!!!!!

  • I got something similar. My truck has AC, a radio, an aftermarket tach, 2 gas tanks, 5-speed stick, 4WD, bulldog gear, and a 6 banger! By the way, these things do better with carbs and not EFI. I a lot about these things. Also, the 1992-1996 years was the last generation that Ford even bothered making trucks. Congratulation on your purchase of a REAL Ford truck!

  • was a work truck

  • looks like a great deal. probably doesn't have alot power since its a 6 cylinder, but pretty reliable.

  • @abram7117 those ford inline 6s have more power than V6s. inline engines produce more Torque.

  • An AM radio? How did people live back then!

  • i have a 93 F150 XL ... manual V8

i have just finished fixing it ..

changed the suspensions, overhauling the engine & gear, & a new paint job

  • actually the inline 6's were fazed out in 1997 when ford switched to the Essex V6 engine. oh and what you think is a smog pump is actually the power brake pump.

  • actually the inline 6's were fazed out in 1997 when ford switched to the Essex V6 engine. oh and what you think is a smog pump is actually the power brake pump.

  • actually the inline 6's were fazed out in 1997 when ford switched to the Essex V6 engine.

  • wow u got a great deal on an amazing truck!!! nice! 5*

  • mines a 94 with fuel injection

  • my dad has a 90 straight six 5 speed with 350,000

  • Comment removed

  • Do you still have this truck?

  • Yes I do, we just drove it tonight.

  • theys rumor that in canada theys stil makin them 300's for generators.

  • my 94 has a inline 6 and im from canada

  • It's only an idiot light. If there is a gauge, it measures oil pressure. Constant pressure is a good thing.

  • This model has just an on-off sensor switch for oil pressure. the gauge is calibrated to read half-scale with the switch in the "on" position. (switch detecting above a certain PSI reading) Most older (through mid 80's) Ford pickup models had a gauge which really measured pressure. If you search google on ford oil pressure gauge idiot gauge it explains what Ford did.

  • wow ur oil pressure sucks. my 94 300 oil pressure runs constant in the m and a in normal

  • This is not a true indication of oil pressure. There is an intermittent connection in the oil gauge circuit.

  • I LOVE YOUR TRUCK!!!!! My dad owns a car lot and rarley get older trucks, but when he does I always go into them and I love that old truck smell. :) Great truck

  • i got a 94 300 straight six with 113,800 with efi

  • im buying a 1988 F150 XL Fseries for ONLY $300 it needs a brake line and a a windshield

  • i got a 93 f150, pushingo n 70,000KM's .

first truck its pretty sweet :)

    300 straigh6

  • i got a 94 f150 300ci and i payed 400

  • the ac pump is right in front of the power steering thing.

  • My mom's ex-boyfriend was getting an older on w/ a straight-6 from a member of his family and we got it running with like 13 dollars.

  • I saw this kind of truck before. The city of kenner uses them.

  • i gotta 95 ford f150 5 speed 300 inline 4x4 i payed 500 for mine

  • An only AM radio, Well the help of aftermarket stereos can fix that!! :)

That truck even in 1992, must have been very bad value.

  • Damnit, I really want a 300 6 F-150!!

I really want to drop a 300 in my truck.

  • why do you want one?

  • makes me love my 92 4.9 bronco

  • hahaha I love the truck !

  • God this reminds me how much I love my 1992 4.9 Ford

  • i have a identical truck only thing mine dont have is a/c and mine has the gage package cause it has the tach.also fyi 96 was the last for the 4.9 inline 6.i payed $500.00 and i got the plastic key card.

  • I have never heard of just AM digital tuner, wow O.O

  • I have the 92' extended cab inline 6, with 138,000 on it, got it for $1,100, What a wonderful truck ! despite some minor rust around the wheel wells, I will repair it and I believe this engine will deliver every bit of 300,000 miles.

  • Just a fact. The last year of production for Ford F-series pickup trucks' inline six 300 cubic inch engine was 1996 for F-150 and 1997 for F-250.

  • be nice to her and youll see 300 k easy

  • wow that is a gem dandy of a truck for 600 it was a steal enjoy that truck

  • That's a nice truck. The 300 cid "Big Six" engine is a nice engine, inliners are so much better than V6's.

I could see the A/C "suitcase" on the passenger side firewall. To me A/C is about the only option I need, my van has factory A/C which works great.

  • 300 I6; best motor Ford ever built. Congrats.

  • sweet

  • Great buy, price, and mileage. I can see you owning that truck for a long time with that standard transmission. The automatics dont last that long. Ford put the 4.9L I6 engine in the F150 trucks until 1996. It was a very bulletproof engine. From what i seen on the video the valve cover looks pretty clean. Im not exactly sure, but i would keep my eye open from time to time for oil leaks around the oil pan because i think those engines were notorious for oil pan gasket leaks.

  • Haha I just purchased a 1992 Ford too. Its an F-250 with the same interior color, and the 445 7.3 diesel

  • Wow! An AM only radio on a 1992?!?!?! Even for 1992 that's pretty old fashoned but I'm sure you don't mind at all! Seems to be a pretty decent truck for only 600 bucks.

  • i got the same motor in my 94. and its stock

  • impressive truck and you lucked out that the AC works...

  • I like that truck! Congratulations on finally getting working a/c. The company I used to work for has a 1996 F-Superduty bucket truck with a 7.3 Powerstroke diesel, and 5 speed manual. It has that interior in blue, AM/FM radio, and R-134 a/c. When I first started with the company in 05 the a/c didn't work, and it was just a bad electrical connection on the compressor. It was still blowing cold when I left. I really did enjoy driving it, and repaired a lot gas station lighting in that truck.

  • Chad, does that truck use R12 or R134a for the air con? There will be a sicker somewhere in the engine bay which says which refrigerant was used.

  • It uses R-12...I am hoping it doesn't quit working! I don't think it was converted to R134a....it seems like that became the standard type used in new vehicles maybe around 1995 or so.

  • If that system develops a leak it shouldn't be a problem to retrofit it to R134a, just don't use the "kits" at WalMart or the auto parts stores.

I retrofitted my 1978 Chevy Van's A/C to work with R134 since it was inoperative when I got the van (no compressor or condensor), which made it easy to go with newer components (Sanden compressor and a parallel flow condensor). I did that 10 years ago and still get 38 to 40 degree (Fahrenheit) air out of the vents on a 95 degree day.

  • That 6 is a very reliable motor!

  • Thats a nice one. Where I used to work at the company truck I drove around in was a 95 F-250 that had a AM radio like that and it was also stick shift with an inline six like that. If you want a stock ford Am/Fm cassette stereo if the same year. It will plug right into the same plugs that the Am radio has. Thats what I did with the company truck I had. The boss let me do it and I had alot of songs recorded on cassette tapes.

  • Thanks for your comments...I actually do have the exact same radio model in the AM/FM cassette version too. I may end up putting it in as it can be tough to get good AM reception when I am going to work in the morning as its often still dark.

  • woot! You got the truck! Congrats :)

Working AC and AM radio. Awesome! And you wouldn't think as late as 1992 they'd still have AM only radios as an option...

    4.9L. Wow, that's a big V6!

  • OH yeah, Spats, I did! ^_^ It is now at home. I had a flatbed tow truck go out to the auction barn and bring it to me. I have been practising letting out the clutch and getting it going from a standstill and I am getting better at it.

It is actually not a V-6 but an inline 6, I have always wanted one.

  • Inline 6... dunno why I said V6. My fault :p

  • The buses are geared LOWER, and first is usually what they call granny gear..it's so low that you really could let out the clutch and it start rolling without stalling. The truck is geared higher in 1st, so 1/4 throttle will get you moving in a hurry, lol.

  • What a nice site a rust free 92, those are rare around here :-( Those old 4.9l motors are good ones, its a good truck thats for sure. I think the oil gauge on the truck is just an idiot gauge, I think ford started doing that in 87 or 88. I had an 87 ranger with a idiot gauge. Looking foward to more vids of the truck. COngrats!

  • WOW! What a great find for $600! With A/C to boot! That's a great truck, and once it's cleaned up, it'll look great. Congrats on the find, it should last you many years.

  • That looks like a really good deal Chad, congratulations! The advice i can give about relearning a stick is: With it idling, practice trying to get it moving on flat ground without giving it gas, just by modulating the clutch pedal. It's not always easy, but that will give you a very good sense of where the takeup point of the clutch is, and will prevent you slipping the clutch a lot trying to prevent a stall.

  • Thanks for the advice, I will have to try that. On the buses I can press the accelerator down about 1/4 the way with the clutch pushed in and start letting up on the clutch with the gearshift in 1st and it starts moving slowly and easily...I was using the same technique on the pickup and it was just really taking off fairly fast.

Is it maybe the gear ratios on the buses are a lot higher?

  • WHAT A STEAL! You lucked out for sure! I didn't realize that they still offered standard AM radios past, like, the 80s! That engine is HUGE!!!! It would be cool to see a video of your shifting it, I still have yet to learn how to drive a stick my self!

  • Thanks! I will make sure to take some videos of driving it.

  • Good deal - I need to watch for local auctions, as I need a cheap pickup too!

Ford was still putting those AM radios in trucks as late as '95 or '96. The last year for the 300 straight six was 1996.

  • Yes, you can still get real good deals on things at an auction with a live auctioneer. Now that I think of it, my truck does have power steering and and power brakes. I wonder if non-power steering and brakes was still available in the 90's...I can remember the older pickups where the only accessory on the drive belt was the alternator.

  • The last domestically sold vehicle available without power brakes was the '88 Ranger. As far as full-size trucks, power brakes and steering were still options until the mid-80's. I'm pretty sure they were standard once the redesigned models came out - '87 Fords and '88 Chevrolets.

  • Congratulations on the new truck Chad.

  • Thank you!

  • nice find.i like the idea of getting older cars and fixing them up.

  • I do too...Actually have never bought a new car in my life!

  • cant wait to see it all cleaned up

  • great find at the auction!!!

  • Hey Chad, wow- congrats on your new truck. $600.00 is a steal! This is a real workhorse, I really like the red interior. The factory AM radio is perfect for you, I prefer the AM stations over anything they play on FM. I have a '98 F-150 and it still has super cold AC.

  • Thank you! I like the red interior too.

  • My first car I Bought back in 2001 was a 1995 Ford Taurus. Sadly, I could go on and on about the troubles I had with that car. Your truck reminds me of a late 90's S10 I tried out while the car was in the shop one day. It had an AM/FM radio, automatic transmission, that delay thing on the wipers, A/C and a rubber floor. I wish the rubber flooring was a common option for vehicles because its easier to clean.

  • I have heard about head gasket problems with certain years of Tauruses, I wonder if 1995 was one of the bad years?

I remember seeing a Chev. S-10 in the movie "Revenge of The Nerds" I think it maybe was the first year it was made (1984). At the auction they actually had an early 90's Chev. full size pickup with 350 V8 and it sold for $350, the engine ran real well.

  • The 3.8L had problems with head gaskets in the Taurus. I known 2 people that had Taurus station wagons with that motor in it, and they had to replace their head gaskets. The 3.0L in the Taurus was a bulletproof motor. Most people i know had no problems with the 3.0L, and it was the basic V6 engine in the Ford Ranger until the truck was recently discontinued. The engine was made by Mazda. The first Chevy S10 was made in 1982.

  • The engine was the only thing I had no issues with. When Dad , a friend and I took the car for a test drive, we didn't go very fast in it. When I was driving it home, i took the interstate. The car struggled to get past 60. The transmission went out. I had that rebuilt, I think it was 1700 bucks. After the transmission was fixed, when I revved the engine, A/C would switch from the regular vents to the defroster. The car made a weird werring sound when turning left.

  • I did safely get the car home the first day.

The car died in the middle of the road 2 times about 1 month apart. I sent it to a local mechanic that did a hack job the first time, and then to the Ford dealer that fixed it right. The service engine light stayed on after that. they couldn't' t find out why. Then around a year later, the distributor went out. Got that fixed and the service light went off. I traded the car about 4 months later for a Toyota that hasn't needed repairs for 6 years.

  • well, after that entertaining bit, I wish you the best luck !!!!

  • i ment 5 stars not 4 sorry lol u got ur self a great bargan man a goos tune up and oil change and a bottle of fuel injection and its one dogging truck keep us updated

  • The oil seemed pretty clean when I checked it but I will double check it before we drive it home tomorrow and then I will definitely change it. It needs its state inspection renewed so I'll take it to the brake shop and have them check brakes/steering/suspension. I'll definitely make more videos of the progress...the only thing that really seems to need a restoration are the door latches, the drivers door is very hard to open.

  • wd40 will help the door open try it it might help

  • I will have to check inside and see...also it seems like the door is maybe loose on the hinges.

  • Man you're luck, it's so hard to find old cars that have working a/c. Congratulations! hahaha

  • Oh it was lucky to find this....hopefully it will continue working!

  • yea my uncle has an old 80's f-100 custom with a 300-6 hes owned it since it was brand new and the engine is still original and it doesnt burn oil

o and u need a noise reducter filter for your stereo i have an old 83 ford f150 and i put a stereo in it and it had alot of interferance and i got a filter and its clear as a bell

  • I'll have to see how the radio performance is out on the road...there may have been something in that area producing interference. I definitely will try the noise filter though if it doesn't go away.

  • yea you can usually get them from radio shack, they connect to your power wire and your ground wire the noise comes from the power source like when your engine revs and the wine is in sync with the engine you then you know what it is

  • I am thinking there may be a bad connection to the antenna too as I am having trouble receiving some stations.

  • Sweet truck Chad! I love Fords.

  • Thanks!

  • The 300 I6 was Ford's best 6 cyl. engine ever. Ive seen alot of them go over 300k miles.

  • I have heard that! This one seems like it really hasn't had much use. My '78 Grand Marquis is at about the 280,000 mile point now on the 400 CID V-8.

  • my dad had a 78 f-150 with the 300 straight 6! he said it was good on fuel and full of torque!! rugged trucks and engines! you will love it! congrats its a nice truck!

  • I actually have a 78 F-150 too but it has a V-8 and is not driveable, the body is falling apart and the alternator and voltage regulator need replaced. I will make a video of it sometime. It is so nice to have a good running truck to haul things which are too tall or awkward for the van. I'm thinking the 300-6 and the standard transmission will get good gas mileage. I need to practise driving it though to be smooth on shifting it!

  • my dads 78 f-150 had a ???5???? speed manual i think??? but right now when im not driving my hyundai i take our 2000 F-150 which has a 4.6L V8 if i recall. not so good on gas but boy it goes good! and my neighbor has a 96 f150 with a straight 6!

  • That is a nice truck, Chad...

I only wish I could find one that nice up here in Illinois. I always enjoy viewing your videos. I have learned alot from you and just wanted to also say Thank you.

We ran that engine in all of our repair vans... 300/6 was the best bang for the buck

  • Thanks so much for viewing my videos and your comments. In the Midwest there can be so much salt that rust is often a problem with used cars and its nice here that no salt is ever used and there is hardly ever snow. I have always wanted to get a truck with the 300-6, I have heard so many good things about it.

  • we used to have a 1992 Ford Areostar van

that had the some Dash Bord Gage set up and same Motor

  • My parents had I think a '94 Aerostar but it had a V6 engine in it rather than the inline 6. I do remember the gauge layout being the same though.

  • we stop driving it when it did not want to run right

and we got a different car .

and then we sold that old Areostar for 500 bucks

but when the person came to buy it the motor locked up . but they bought it they said they have like 3 other areostars they was going peace together one .and our was had best body and inside they guy said . so it all was good .

  • My parents ended up getting rid of theres too, they had problems with the engine shutting down. They ended up buying a Toyota van. Organist1982 and I had a Ford Windstar but we ended up getting rid of it too as it was having lots of problems. I think Ford's full-sized trucks and vans seem to be better than the mini-vans.

  • yea that van was my folks van

but Last year i bought my first car

    is 1999 grand AM

and there seem to be a Squeeking sound coming form the belt . and it starting to have a bit of some Preformace trouble .

i know when i got it i had get the Passenger Front Wheel barring replace 2 times

and got Oil and Transmission flood changed

i do wonder if needs new belt and New spark plugs

  • Sometimes if the alternator or power steering pump is loose on its bolts this can cause the belts to squeal.

  • The Ford Windstar was so horrible that it created a bad reputation for Ford. Especially the 1995, and 1996 models. Thats why they rebadged the van later as the Freestar to rid themselves of that bad reputation.

  • Did they have a scary buzzer rather than the chime?

  • Nice deal... but it wasn't the last year for the 300 I-6. My friend has a 1995 F150 with it.

  • Yes you are right. I read up some more information about this and it was saying the the 300 CID 6 was discontinued due to the fact it wouldn't fit in the new aerodynamic cowl of the re-styled Ford pickups of the late 90's.

  • Not bad for $600 especailly if you got a working ac unit! I needs got get my license asap and get out on the road like everyone else, really. I can careless about have the optional items longer as I can get around.

My dad used to have a 1980 Dodge Ram van. It had a seat in the back that folds down to a bed and an ice box, but lacks ac and has an AM only radio, lol!

  • In your area is it a metropolitan area where you can walk to a lot of the places you need to go? Some places driving your own car can be a lot less necessary than others, but then it does afford a lot of freedom. I have a Dodge Ram van too, a 1989 model, sometime i will need to make a video about it. It did have front and rear AC but it is not working.

  • Actually, I'm in a suburban area, but I'm 20mins. away from Philly. Most of the time I get around by bus and sometime I get rides from ppl. I manage to get bring my toys on the bus, but I have to limit the of items I purchase cuz I can bring so much. Getting my license and a motor vehicle is the way to go and besides I can go far to check out other flea market that I never been too. Perhaps, I should go to Deleware because there's alot of antique shops and flea markets.

  • Ok, I was just wondering if maybe you lived like right down town where parking for a car could be difficult. That's a good situation that you could just drive the car if you needed to make a longer trip and can still have the economy of using public transport too. Back when I lived in Athens Ohio I could walk to work and really only had to use the car to go to the grocery store or if I just wanted to go out of town for fun.

  • When I get out on the road, I'm going to celebrate, hehe!

  • and no I'm not going to drink and drive, lol!

  • Thats A nice Truck , My Dad Had One, But it was green. I loved driving it around in our fields but he sold it for a GMC truck. That Was a bad move, it was the best running truck we ever had.Ever since he sold it he has been looking for another one.

  • Thank you...I think these are somewhat rare, usually you see a 302 or 351 V-8 and an automatic.

  • Yeah, the truck I have now is a 1980 model with 302 V8 auto, and my old truck was a 1983 with 300 I6 auto. Cam shaft snapped in it though.

  • well actually most f-150s that came out in the 80's and early 90's came with the inline 6 standard i think it was a custom order to get a v8 my old ford originally had an inline 6 but now as a 302

  • Wow 600 bucks for that and the A/C works very nice find. It's a real work truck to not babied or anything I like trucks that way, the body looks mint no rust. LOL AM radio man and I thaugh my 1990 was low tech but then again theres no A/C in mine lol. I'm curious what do you mean by "idiot gauge" for the oil pressure? I've heard that befor but I can't remember what it means.

  • Thanks for your comments! I think the idiot gauge system just uses a switch type sensor for oil pressure, like that would be used with the warning light. Above 7PSI or whatever the PSI cutoff is, the switch activates and sends a pre-determined voltage to the gauge to make it read half way. There is a way to retrofit the system back to a real sensor to get the gauge to actually indicate variations in pressure.

  • Thanks for the info. Oh I forgot to say, those 300cid Inline 6 are Bullet Proof engines and are real strong for haulling and don't get in high RPMs witch is good. There like a gas version of a diesel, they have high torque in low RPMs.

  • retrochad...i wana see you buy something brand spanking new jsut once lol to see ur reaction to ultra modern techonolgy lol

btw i have a cabidnet style tv, do u know alot about these? iil make a vid for you

  • The closest I have come to that is when Organist1982 and I bought the 2002 Ford Escort ZX-2 at a car dealer!

  • OOooo lol

  • haha yeah.

whats ur overall opinion on my buick park ave? if u ever sen my videos lol

its 1986, retro technology u could say lol

  • I'm sorry I don't know too much about GM cars from this era but I have heard a lot of good things about the 3.8 liter V6 used in them.

  • do u like it? the look lol

  • Sweet buy RC! The 4.9 was offered until 1996. The F series had full gauges, this one is missing the optional tach. The FI should make things easier in the mornings :)
