@jasminemlin An EV Spread is the distribution of the 510 "Effort Points" a Pokémon can obtain. Each stat like HP, Attack, etc. has a 'effort value' associated with it.
At level 100, for every 4 points gained, the stat rises by 1 point. By carefully battling the right Pokémon you can get a stat 63 points higher than normal! (Fast guys like Zubat give you Speed, toughies like Geodude give Defense.)
There are some limitations. Each stat can only hold 255 pts, and the grand total cannot exceed 510.
@KooperKoushiro because when i look at the stats of my pokemon i have 200+ in SD and SA and then 100+ in the other categories which seems way over 510 so how exactly do u use the Effort Points?
@jasminemlin When designing movesets, you need to take role on the team in mind. Offensive Pokémon will want moves with high attack power, Defensive will love a move like Roost or Recover, and Support guys use moves like Stealth Rock and Light Screen to make allies' jobs easier. Typically, you will want at least a move that matches one of its types, because same type moves get a 50% power bonus. From there you likely want another move to cover what that move lacks, like Ice Beam alongside Tbolt.

@jasminemlin Sorry, that may have been a bit vague...
Basically, your stat at a given level is comprised of three parts: The base stat (i.e. Crobat's 130 Base Speed), EVs accrued, IV for that stat, and of course the Pokémon's Level. These 4 factors combined in a formula you need not know to form stats. What I meant by the Lv100 thing is that you only feel the full gains at Lv100. e.g. at Lvl50, the stat rises by one for every 8 EVs. (Half the level, so double the EVs needed for same increase)
@jasminemlin ...to be a bit more clear, when you level up, the game recalculates your stats and displays the difference in the old and new values. This is also done when vitamins (HP Up, etc.) are applied (Vitamins add 10 EVs per use, but once you have 100 EVs in the stat you must gain them through battle; no more vitamins can be used).
Another important note is that you only gain EVs when you gain EXP. Since Lv.100 guys can't gain further EXP, they also can't gain EVs. (In 4th Gen, anyway)
@KooperKoushiro Ok. So EVs are always being gained because of the gain of experience. And if the pokemon, say its level 50 to go with your example, gains +2 in attack when it levels up, it means it gained 16 EVs in that stat while it was gaining experience between level 50 and 51?
@jasminemlin It would depend on the Pokémon's Base Attack. Even with no EVs gained a Machamp is likely going to pick up 2 Attack points on a level up, while a Blissey not so much. You do have the correct amount of EVs to stat points gained ratio there, though. :)
It's also worth noting that when Wi-Fi Autolevels you to 100, it applies the EVs even if a level up has not "shown" you the gain. Not 100% sure on this but I believe you can also put a Pokémon in the PC Box to recalc its stats.
@KooperKoushiro Ok i think i finally understand this. Let me take a stab at it. SO, a pokemon's stats will always increase by raising levels, EVs or not. And once they reach level 100, if no EVs are added, the stats will reach pretty much a designated spot depending on nature and stuff like that. But when you battle pokemon, 1 or more EV is added to a stat depending on the pokemon defeated. These points are accumulated throughout the game to add to the normal increase of each stat.

guys i have a question, would this be a good team, 1 roserade trained in health and defence with toxic spikes and like 5 defencive pokemon such as bronzong that are also trained in health and defence. The strategy being to use toxic spikes twice with rosalina and then using your defencive pokemon to laugh at the other pokemon as the poison slowly kills them?

@XLRO8 The Power items only lower speed in-battle when you're holding them cause they're "heavy". Its not permanent. They help gain you extra EVs to increase your stats faster.

@XLRO8 You need to beat a certain number of pokemons before you grow +1 level in order to increase the EV's per level, if you beat 1 pokemon it will give less EV points than if you beat 26 (before grow another level). If this doesn't work maybe you have reached the top of your EV points and you can't gain more.
@XLRO8 Ignore those little plus numbers when you level up. Whether you gain 1 or 3 or 6 or 12 stats as you level up is irrelevant when you're EV training -- because you only see the FULL effect at level 100, its all based on those formulas that people confuse you with.
Just ignore it. Count your EVs, trust your math, and it will work itself out properly when you check the stats on WiFi.
@nucc40 You're limited to everything within the tier you are playing and below it. So, Ubers are cut off from 'Standard' aka OU, and OU's are cut off in UU play, and UU's are cut off in NU play. Likewise as the reverse, you can use NU and UU in the higher tiers if you so choose.
@markkerr101 Wifi can set all pokes to lvl50, lvl100, or leave them set at whatever they are naturally. Stats will be calculated accordingly, so no need to grind up there for days on end.
@markkerr101 Players create a common set of rules for "Standard" format play so that everyone can be on the same page and be equal. Pokes specifically like Groudon and Mew are in "ubers" tier and not allowed in standard matches, so you gotta look for Ubers matches if you want the big guns.
Its not wifi or Nintendo regulated. Just the community guidelines. If you bring a Mewtwo into a match then people will disconnect on you.

@phantomzyrus DD is Dragon Dance, SD is Swords Dance. Yache is the name of the berry that reduces super effective Ice attacks. Agility-Flail is just a combo. Flail is more powerful at lesser HP, so even if you get hit while you use agility, thats okay. After one agility you can either Endure/Substitute to less HP, or go with an attack first if you think you can get hit again without dying.

@rgur90x Look up a program called PokeSav. It lets you create your pokemon with the exact stats you want with the powers and item you want. It makes it a lot easier to build teams. It's a lot less tedious, and a whole lot less time consuming.

can somone pleas help me out on somthing? you see i have a pokemon that i want to train using a power item like a power anklet but it seas it raises speed and lowers it? also do your defence go up each lv or somthing when wereing a power band?

@XLRO8 The Power items only lower speed in-battle when you're holding them cause they're "heavy". Its not permanent. They help gain you extra EVs to increase your stats faster.

@XLRO8 You need to beat a certain number of pokemons before you grow +1 level in order to increase the EV's per level, if you beat 1 pokemon it will give less EV points than if you beat 26 (before grow another level). If this doesn't work maybe you have reached the top of your EV points and you can't gain more.

@XLRO8 Ignore those little plus numbers when you level up. Whether you gain 1 or 3 or 6 or 12 stats as you level up is irrelevant when you're EV training -- because you only see the FULL effect at level 100, its all based on those formulas that people confuse you with.
Just ignore it. Count your EVs, trust your math, and it will work itself out properly when you check the stats on WiFi.

@nucc40 You're limited to everything within the tier you are playing and below it. So, Ubers are cut off from 'Standard' aka OU, and OU's are cut off in UU play, and UU's are cut off in NU play. Likewise as the reverse, you can use NU and UU in the higher tiers if you so choose.

ok, for wifi battles, do your pokemon actually have to be trained to level 100? are all of yours? or do they round it up?

@markkerr101 Wifi can set all pokes to lvl50, lvl100, or leave them set at whatever they are naturally. Stats will be calculated accordingly, so no need to grind up there for days on end.

@markkerr101 Players create a common set of rules for "Standard" format play so that everyone can be on the same page and be equal. Pokes specifically like Groudon and Mew are in "ubers" tier and not allowed in standard matches, so you gotta look for Ubers matches if you want the big guns.
Its not wifi or Nintendo regulated. Just the community guidelines. If you bring a Mewtwo into a match then people will disconnect on you.

i know FOR A FACT that pokemon started sucking after aproxamently the 4-6 ep of diamond and pearl thats when team rocket started talking in ryhmes i got convenced ashes balls havent dropped yet and that i really dont care for the show sense most episodes are for ash meeting a new friend or pokemon i only wish to watch the shows that shows gym battles or ash catching or evolving a pokemon otherwise the others are usless

I'll assume you/him have at least SOME basic knowledge of the game.... basic
EQ: A ground attack, Earthquake.
SR: A weird move called Stealth Rock that deals damage when pokemon are sent out
DD: A move that increases speed and attack
Yache: An item helpful against Ice type attacks
Agiliflail: A 2-turn combo
Lefties: An item to heal pokemon
SD: A move to increase attack

Agility increases speed, and then you use Flail... How does that help?

@phantomzyrus DD is Dragon Dance, SD is Swords Dance. Yache is the name of the berry that reduces super effective Ice attacks. Agility-Flail is just a combo. Flail is more powerful at lesser HP, so even if you get hit while you use agility, thats okay. After one agility you can either Endure/Substitute to less HP, or go with an attack first if you think you can get hit again without dying.

This is a video against TSP. At the time of this battle taking place, about a week prior TSP did a 'money show' intro, but only had 13 dollars or something. I happened to get a bunch of cash as I needed to buy University textbooks so it was fitting and funny as an intro for playing TSP with. I'm from Detroit in blue collar country, we're poor by all means if you're so offended by the waving of green paper.

@rgur90x Look up a program called PokeSav. It lets you create your pokemon with the exact stats you want with the powers and item you want. It makes it a lot easier to build teams. It's a lot less tedious, and a whole lot less time consuming.
