These graphics where from a 2005 demo! Just think what the graphics will be like if it 'does' get released next year, these graphics are 6 years old and amazing by todays standards! Also PS3 was short on games at the time. So Sony needed to increase its games catalogue. Lets wait and see how Gran Tourismo 5 will turn out to be. No PS3 games at present uses the full power of the PS3. It is not difficult to develop games for the PS3 as many developers thought at the begining. But they just lack the dedication to use the full potential of the console. I'm not taking sides to which is better ( 360 or PS3 ) I have both. The reason Sony cancelled this game not because it was a single player mode game only, but a game this good will hold back developers from developing games for the PS3. What I mean is that developers are lazy to take advantage of the full power of the PS3. Most games are develop quickly thus quick returns ( Profit ). If Sony release this game then it would mean games developers would need to produce game graphically par as " The Getaway" and they are not prepare to do that just yet.
I really hope your right and they do bring the game back because I loved the original Getaway. Black Monday was as good in my opinion. A Getaway on the ps3 would be awesome.

The Getaway came out a couple of weeks after GTA vice City. While GTA had Bikes and the coolest soundtrack in gaming history. The storyline was shit ie just buy lots of houses and buisnesses. The Getaway was anout realism and combining cinema with gaming...
The game has been canceled, but I think they might go back to it once the major games are released. They had some issue with the budget and had to cut it out. Its sad, I just hope it does come out later, cause this is so amazing, along with the plan of Eight Days.
What happened: Sir Howard Stringer new boss of Sony. Ken was his main opposition to power, Howie cut his budgets, canceled projects, appointed brother to Sony BMG, began extreme DRM n rootkits, that also caused the PS3 Launch postponement!
This all upset Phil n Ken as well, as these games they loved got pushed back or canceled & is why both left!
The games are now old & if they started these games again, they would be outdated by the time they launched as PS3 goes OGL ES Halti 2010 (not BC)!
OpenGL ES Halti is not BC (backwards compatible) and would be in a firmware update written to the hardware. So these games would run in software emulated mode after 2010!
Running a game software emulated when all new games at this time will use new engine tecnology? Not smart and they'd fail!

Although the games are similar they're centered on different game dynamics. GTA was developed around driving action. While The Getaway is more storyline driven w/more character interaction than picking up n running over whores, pimps and drug lords!

Phil Harrison got out leaving Sir Howie to twiddle his thumbs, cut funds n games that would have had PS3 at #1!
...And Vasarus? Remember OpenGL ES 2.0/2.1 will bring the end of backwards compatibility to OpenGL ES 1.0/1.1 or PSGL! ...it's called Halti and it is beyond Mt Evans!
From then on, all OpenGL 1.1 or PSGL Games will run in virtualization mode rather than directly on the hardware!
Sort of like the applications or videos run in Java applets and Flash virtual containers or objects. Yes Object Oriented Desktop Applications. It's back to Amiga and BeOS days!!!
This is the only game that can compete with the Grand Theft Autos in my opinion, just not as good as them.

When game creators stick to 1 game system its always better, cause they utilize the strengths of that system
GTA4 actually had to be held back in some terms cause it was too big for Xbox

The Concept is similar GTA games, the game is a sandbox game. Mission based with a story running through it.
Unlike GTA's made up cities or New York Clone..
The Getaway will feature, or should feature 3 real cities London, Amsterdam and Birmingham.

Its been Cancelled due to other projects, xbox 360 took GTA Lost & Damed and Ballad of gay tony, but PS3 gets a series called " Agent " and plus Mafia 2!!! The getaway maybe at the same time delayed for a whil it should come back later, why would SOHO drop there own London GTA style game.

I love racing that track even in F-1's! :D ...I can only imagine getting out on the street in an open world. Jumping on the tube and exploring the whole place while making a hit and getting away! :D

Also PS3 was short on games at the time. So Sony needed to increase its games catalogue. Lets wait and see how Gran Tourismo 5 will turn out to be. No PS3 games at present uses the full power of the PS3. It is not difficult to develop games for the PS3 as many developers thought at the begining. But they just lack the dedication to use the full potential of the console. I'm not taking sides to which is better ( 360 or PS3 ) I have both. But sadly my 360 ( my third one now ) is use a door stopper

a no what you mean about rushed titles. the list is very very long. this game needs time spending. and yeah it will defo be able to wait a while b4 they make it. as for the xbox it will probley make better use as a door stopper. i had 2. both dead. would never ever get another one. ps3 could wipe the floor with the xbox. it needs to put more time and money into making sure the games are 100% and not sum halfarsed attempt... for example the terminator. poor boring game.

The reason Sony cancelled this game not because it was a single player mode game only, but a game this good will hold back developers from developing games for the PS3. What I mean is that developers are lazy to take advantage of the full power of the PS3. Most games are develop quickly thus quick returns ( Profit ). If Sony release this game then it would mean games developers would need to produce game graphically par as " The Getaway" and they are not prepare to do that just yet.

This could have been completed now or near that. Still I think Sony know how good this game is and could be so they will be doing nothing more then holding it back. Why show all your cards when you can keep surprising the audience!? This is what they are doing, they understand that the cell processor inside the PS3 will be able to produce this with ease but why do it now. They will bring it to the PS3, just like 8 Days but it will be a little while. Still I hope they bring them both soon!

plus there is nothing to buy compared to san andreas
i think the new gta is set in the wrong city, new york is just full of streets, san andreas did let you explore a lot of land and countryside which was better and you also got to drive trains and there were a lot more clothes and hair cuts

The game has been canceled, but I think they might go back to it once the major games are released. They had some issue with the budget and had to cut it out. Its sad, I just hope it does come out later, cause this is so amazing, along with the plan of Eight Days.

What happened: Sir Howard Stringer new boss of Sony. Ken was his main opposition to power, Howie cut his budgets, canceled projects, appointed brother to Sony BMG, began extreme DRM n rootkits, that also caused the PS3 Launch postponement!
This all upset Phil n Ken as well, as these games they loved got pushed back or canceled & is why both left!
The games are now old & if they started these games again, they would be outdated by the time they launched as PS3 goes OGL ES Halti 2010 (not BC)!

OpenGL ES Halti is not BC (backwards compatible) and would be in a firmware update written to the hardware. So these games would run in software emulated mode after 2010!
Running a game software emulated when all new games at this time will use new engine tecnology? Not smart and they'd fail!

Although the games are similar they're centered on different game dynamics. GTA was developed around driving action. While The Getaway is more storyline driven w/more character interaction than picking up n running over whores, pimps and drug lords!
But again, the Game's been canceled. Doubtful development will be resumed ever. It's been stuck in initial stages for last 3 yrs!
Phil Harrison got out leaving Sir Howie to twiddle his thumbs, cut funds n games that would have had PS3 at #1!

From then on, all OpenGL 1.1 or PSGL Games will run in virtualization mode rather than directly on the hardware!
Sort of like the applications or videos run in Java applets and Flash virtual containers or objects. Yes Object Oriented Desktop Applications. It's back to Amiga and BeOS days!!!
