Ducati's are great bikes, but for the price of one 1098, I could get any Japanese bike I want (or a Buell 1152) and put the rest of the money (the other $30,000) into track days.
I've only been on one track for a weekend, but track days make the rider - not the bike.
That said, if money was no object, I'd get a whole fleet of Ducs.
I'd say the man that made the video is entitled to make it the way he wanted to. I would suggest all who criticise make their own. The video is for his entertainment, not yours.
this is the 5th or 6th video i've seen from mtorcycleusa and the drivers seem to be very unsecure about their riding. As if it is their first ride on the track. None of the turns are taken with full speed, "knee down"- nerve. The vids would look a lot better if they made it after prctising the tracks a couple of times more.
As a commited racer myself i must say that the tracks look realy great tho. I'll bet you people could show a lot more and better vids in the near future.
mario - we'll be the first to admit that our riders are not pushing at 100%. The reason? Well, the motorcycles are not ours and crashing is a really bad thing, especially when you are on a $40,000 Ducati 1098R.
of course i understand this and i appologize if i made wrong insinuations, but no doubt, the vids will get better if te riders get more experienced. Keep up the good work.
dude mario its not about the riders gaining experience they are not TRYING to go as fast as they can...If someone lends you their bike, you ride WELL below you potential, maintaining a high level of caution because its NOT YOURS.
well, since this site is all about motorcycles, i thought it was obvious they would take the bikes to their limits. Atleast thats what the journalists do here in europe. They are insured if they have any accidents. Maybe it's different in the US...
I agree with the audio, but you do have a few nice moments in there shot wise. I'm about to do the same and I'm sure we'll be dealing with the same issues. Great Ride... Thanks!
Nice video. I'm riding Barber for the first time this May and I am sure to watch this many more times before then to try and get 'an eye' for the track.
how are the engines prepped/warmed up before hitting the track? it seems like in every video, they just fire it up and take off. i'd never do that with my own bike... what info am i missing?
The bikes have usually been ridden/warmed up by the OE (Ducati, Honda, etc.) test riders before the media guys get on them. They are also fitted with tire warmers especially at this time of year.
We're trying some different options with the onboard camera audio. The wind noise is a huge issue and we don't have it solved yet but we'll keep trying to get more true engine sound in the vids.
barber motorsports park is maybe the best racing circuit in North America.

Ahhhhh...DESMO FOR LIFE! You can't beat it. I love my Monster, but I would trade it on a 1098 in a heartbeat...if I had that kind of flow.
