Worth trying to find good second hand mics for a little bit more than new budget mics. Audio technica are generally making very good mics for the money. SE's are not on my list as I find they are to hyped usually on the top end.

Fett, I dig the idea of using the stereo mics as tone control. It seems so obvious, but it never occurred to me to use them that way. Major props dude! Don't forget the 3 to 1 rule. Keep 'em comin'!
