  • USA you really should cherish this great artist

  • Jay Black. Gary Puckett. B.J. Thomas. David Clayton Thomas. The 5th Demension. Marvin Gaye. Well, need I say more? The greatest voices of the 60's and 70's.

  • Jay Black is indeed the real deal. No wonder they call him "The Voice"

  • Bands like this from old school don't need to lip sync unlike the retards of today that rely on studio rather then talent. The 50's and 60's is where all the talent was, when America was a country to be idolized.

  • Love,love,love :-)

  • @tacysassy Jay vocals aren't his it's his recording

  • @diprimareber ...I saw this show when it was on in 2001...he was not lip syncing. Right after this he sang Cara Mia, perfectly, with a little monologue before the song. Whoever uploaded this didn't sync the movement with the sound very well....

  • @diprimareber Apparently you don't know the song very well.

  • @diprimareber ???

  • @diprimareber No! your wrong you can hear his voice drop a note at 27 seconds but the guys 70 and can still sing loops around anyone you can think of.

  • Ya got a great set of pipes Jay!

  • Never, ever, ever another like Jay Black.

  • OMG... Nobody like the real Jay Black.

  • COMO BOM OUVIR ESTA MUSICA, PARABENS OS >>> JAY AND AMERICANS.

  • A song close to my heart!!!

  • GOD, He looks and sounds GREAT! God bless you, Jay, and may you sing forever!!!!

  • Where are all the great pop singers today? Jay Black, Gary Puckett, Marvin Gaye and so many other sixties voices who knew how to interpet a song. Vibrato is dead today. Who cana sing like this today? Celine Dion can, but she's a woman. Where are all the great male vocalis? David Lee Roth! Bullshit. Justine Timberlake? He couldn't carry Jay Black's shoes.

  • stunning

  • Very frustrating! I want the next song! It WAS on here...put it back! After this he did a little monologue about being 60 something and not sure he could hit the high notes...then he sang Cara Mia...and beautifully....and with the high notes. This was 10 years ago on PBS...

  • Great playback... s***t!

  • Comment removed

  • I keep waiting for someone to re-post Cara Mia from this same show. It was on here for awhile, then removed. Hey..dunepaul9999, I thought YOU would do that...

  • That he can still sing this and his other great songs in his 60s is a testment to his great voice.

  • I've watched this over and over...just to get to the end when he reaches down to get the water bottle and flashes that adorable little crooked smile...you can see the old ( young ) Jay from 1965. Still love him...

  • i'd fuck this song

  • Such a great song but the audience sucks!!! (Take a look at minute 2:55)

  • @thedude0729 I think he is lip-syncing. His lips and words are too far off. Yes the song is great and this is entertainment. At least he is lip-syncing his own voice.

  • iF ANY BETTER, i DON'T KNOW WHt ia

  • I love this show...back when his back-up group could still be called "the Americans" prior to things becoming a legal "pissing contest" with the original Jay. I love this song... I love "Walking In The Rain"...and especially "Cara Mia". The "Alley Cats" sing well...but they need to lose the shirts they wore on the last PBS "oldies" show...just my opinion. I know...I know...my opinion plus a dollar-three-eighty will buy a decent cup of coffee these days...Tunesmith

  • Where did those days go

  • Thanks for your comments...I still remember the night before we left our unit in vietnam.Huge party, beer flowing and singing, but we (3 of us) that were going home the next day in a way sad to leave out brothers. This one song always brings me back there.

  • Oh my, I have not heard this song for so long! I use to play this 45 on my stereo, still have it, I loved this song. My parents would say "how many times are you going to play that record" -- crazy, after many years, I could still repeat playing it over & over. Love Jay Black, totally AWESOME MUSIC!

  • This was the greatest song that was ever recorded in his time; back in the day.

  • hi...do u have cara mia..from the same concert...chhers

  • temazo de estos señores, gracias por subirlo

  • LT.Dakota Stormm class of 65-68 chopper 711 tumblin dice this song kept us going while we were in country.i just did as ordered.

  • Sometimes you gotta hear a song that makes you feel young again. I found it here.

  • i love this song!!!!!!! :)

  • Ok does he look like Johnny cash or what ? Still has the voice

  • WHERE WAS THE GREAT TRUMPET SOLO?? I LIKE THIS, BUT THE TRUMPET SOLO IS MISSING!

  • @BELLTONNIE Hi: the trumpet is part of the "bridge" which was added to by the guitars. Originally, the trumpet was terrific, but in an orchestral setting, in my opinion, cannot be beat. This is pretty damn good when you consider it is about 42 years after the original.

  • Lip synch is ok for a great song like this ":) I am trying to find the original studio

track. With mistakesand warts and all :)

  • First "rock concert" I ever saw was these guys. Plattsburgh State College, NY. They opened for Jay and the Tecnniques. I thought Jay Black looked a lot like Robert F. Kennedy, who was, I think, still alive at the time. In this vid, he looks like Johnny Cash, LOL.

  • I was there I know him in person hes jokefull and a moody one and I know his son Beau Black and dated him

  • Há 19 pessoas que, infelizmente, ainda não tiveram um MOMENTO MÁGICO! Mas sempre é tempo!!!! Apaixonem-se!!!!

  • jay and the americans is a group that never forgot where they came from or how they got there.they are so grounded and i got to see them in concert.this was one of the songs.as i am writing tears of joy are streaming down my face.god bless you for posting and keep up the great work.i will be right here waiting for the next song.

  • I came to U.S.A 1969, to visit my sister who lived in New jersey and this song was no.1 and evry time I hear this song it brings me back to that time in my live.I love this song;))

  • I use to play this song on the jukebox at Broadview Brunswick Bowling Center, every other day. I still listen to it on CD-R.

  • I use to play this song on the jukebox at Broadview Brunswick Bowling Center, every other day.

  • he's singing to a phonogram....but still great song regardless!!!

  • Okay, it doesn't sound "exactly" like it did 40 years ago, but who does? He still has an awesome voice! The clarity is still there. It's as if there's no effort to produce that fabulous voice. I love it!

  • @uncadiane It does sound like it did because the vocal track is being lipsync'ed.

  • @strandwolf It would appear that way, and I can't disagree. He played a county park concert here in Nj in the summer of 2006 and he sounded decent, not great but decent. It was rather funny because he carries quite a foul mouth around and it was touted as a family show! Me and my 68 year old father enjoyed it, but my wife wasn't happy since our 5 year old was there. Thought it was a great free show!

  • A great song!

  • JAY BLACK STILL HAS IT; AFTER DECADES OF TIME:)!~

  • Truly amazing. Thank you for sharing.

  • Jay and the Americans and this song is "PURE MAGIC" Those were the days and this IS the music!

    Thank you @mikeryanify for sharing

Thank you 60soldiers for posting this great classic!

  • Jay's sounds weak and not his normal great stuff.

  • @Howieshet

for christ sake man how old is he? Hell yea he sounds rough..lol

  • Wao, his voice is intact, I love this song, especially the version of Jay and the Americans

  • The Drifters made this song in the early 60's

  • japanese sci fi movie

  • There is only one Jay ... Jay Black. All others are IMITATION JAYS.

  • Am I the only one out there who realizes this is the ONE & ORIGINAL future

    HOF JAY and the Americans?

Those other two are 1 shot and cover respectively, Kenny Vance does an admirable

attempt at resurrecting the sounds of that era, but again, there will always only

be one voice of the Americans......Jay Black and this is what he sounds like

even now...5 years after this PBS show.

  • this is the REAL Jay, compare it to Cara Mia and look at the face it is him.

  • @justgabriel Look at his face? Just close your eyes and listen. It's THE "Jay..."

  • Please reload this so the sound is in synch...

  • I recall listening to this great song in Riviere-du-Loup, Quebec, Canada. Big hit there too.

  • @rkd... Hey Sparky. I guess you haven't seen Jay and The Americans after hearing your incorrect comment. Standing O's Sparky !! They are touring internationally and having a blast. You must be another one of the great ameteur critics...Enjoy the music, Sparky.

  • This viseo should only be called Jay Black because there are no Americans performing. He lost the rights due to reasons most know. The Jay and The Americans performing both nationally and internationally have already been selling out shows and Jay Reinke ( Jay #3) has been getting standing o's for Cara Mia.

  • @rich465 Is there anything else from Wikipedia that you want to share?

  • no need to....just the facts, ma'am.

  • @rich465 haqte to tell yu, bubba, but the "new" Jay (Reinke) can't hit the notes, and is usually a bit off key in his signing. He isn't getting the standin O-s - it's "Jay & The Americans"

  • Well, Sparky, you obviously have not been to the shows because if you were, you would know otherwise. How about the real Jay and The Americans touring interenationally? How about seeing the video of Jay Black hitting the notes at St George Theatre in Staten Island..There you go, Sparky. Just enjoy the music.

  • @Rk.. Hey Sparky. I guess you haven't been to any Jay and The American shows with Jay Reinke because they DO in fact get standing O's. He is not Jay 1 nor Jay 2 however he IS Jay 3 and the band lives on.... By the way, touring internationally. K Sparky?

  • I Love this song, I love Jay. Thanx so much for this vid. : ) 5*S

  • I'm trying to locate the version of Cara Mia performed at this concert (stage, clothing). Perhaps it's been removed. Any help?

  • @TomOfPEI regretably, I think it has. It was part of the doo-wop concert in Pittsburgh. in fact, a whole bunch of stuff, including Lou Christie, from that concert apparently was pulled. Screw WQED - they use our tax money but then can't share

  • @TomOfPEI the assholes at Public Television had it pulled (screw WQED - they use our tax money and then don't share). They also pulled Lou Christie (Lightin' Strikes) and a classic Tokens (The Lion Sleeps tonight) featuring Kathy Young. Great stuff but WQED knows only greed ...pays their CEO 6 figures for parttime work then pulls stuff off of YouTube

  • Nice performance! To me, this is the authentic sound of Jay & The Americans! There's a group going around now calling themselves Jay & The Americans which apparently consists of some original background singers, but it can't be "Jay & The Americans" without the REAL Jay who sang on most of the hits and performed as their lead singer for all those years. It's like seeing Frankie Valli and the 4 Seasons with a fake Frankie Valli, or seeing a "Dion & The Belmonts" show with a fake DION.

  • @mrderekevan Jay Black sold the rights to the name of the band when he needed money. No one has the voice of Jay Black.

  • He is the Jay who put that magnificent sound into Jay and the Americans,a voice I would compare to the sounds of Roy Orbison, fantastic and still has it.Any other group calling themselves Jay and the Americans without Jay Black are pretenders living on someone elses success.

  • this is not the first lead singer for jay and the americans but he is the one who recorded all their big hits such as cara mia due to gambling debts he sold the rights to the name and now tours as jay black and the americans

  • Not the original Jay, but THE JAY who recorded the almost all the hits with JATA

  • Not the ORIGINAL Jay, but still, a great voice! I know because my brother-in-law will be opening for them in Peoria, AZ on April 4th. I'm trying to get a flight booked down there (I live in PA). These guys were big BEFORE THE BEATLES!!!

  • is this the "Jay" of the mid-60's that sang lead on Cara Mia? I heard he was in jail, then lost the right to the group name and songs, when he got out. Now the 60's lineup has moved on w/a new "Jay" Whats up?

  • What a great performance. The orchestra, the voice, and jeez louise, he first made this song in 1964!

I mean really, How much genius is attatched to that voice.

    Joseph F

  • I saw him at the Fox Theater in St.Louis,What a powerful voice.

  • Jay ROCKS! saw them in Foxwoods ..love it

  • Jay didnt play Foxwoods. He plays Mohegan Sun. Jay And The Americans played three shows at Foxwoods.

  • WHAT A VOICE.

  • @hendodabest i'm looking for bobby tombasco's song that little girl....do you know how i can find it

  • muy buna cancion

  • Happy Birthday Jay (yesterday)

  • Jay can still do it.. thanks Jay!

  • Great! Thanks!

    PS:

Age takes it toll on all of us. Seen the Stones lately? They're all still great though!

  • I think he sounds great. He still does Cara mia great.

  • unfortunantly age is taking its toll on him, watch some of the latest videos of him....

  • This song takes me back in time. The night before I left vietman we had a party and we all sang this. Its a moment I will never forget.

  • @219len Thanks for your service, can't thank you enough.... I love this old stuff having grown up with it, being my father is 68.... thanks again

  • @219len thank you for servivng our country

  • @219len - Thank you Mr. Vietnam Vet for all you have done for our country. It is greatly appreciated!!

  • @219len That is [honestly] one of the coolest stories I've ever read in three sentences... [trying to imagine the song playing, too, at such a time].

Thanks, to You and your Friends for your bravery

  • @butchdiesel I agree with you on all counts.

  • @219len musta been a sight to see a bunch of harden vetrens singin in sync to this hahaha

    WOOOOAAAHOOOO

  • @zelka242321 First time? Take a look at PBS DooWop Specials. that will give you an idea how great the songs/artists were.

    In one word- fabuuuuuuuuuuulous!

  • can someone fix the video. it is out of sync.

  • jb is 71. This video was made 9 years ago and its out of sync.

  • out of sync. fix the video. like a gozilla movie.

  • LOL!! So funny...now I can't watch it...but I can listen......

  • Great song and voice, but there's a problem with the video......the music doesn't match up to the movement of Jay's lips...

  • Jay Trainor was the original Jay , but only recorded a couple of hits. Jay Black took over after that. Jay Trainor by the way is an original member of The Tokens and still tours with them.

  • The one and only Jay The Voice

  • wow this justa blew my mind sing and sing along!!!

  • even if it was drifters jay is better

  • jay is the man...

  • Jay Black is the original, just like Elvis, accept no other sound alikes ...

  • Not bad for somene in his sixties...I should sound thos good...lol

  • How can yiu be sure about the sound It looks like Milli Vanilli to me

  • I Know this is Jay Black. He recorded this song when it was Jay & The Americans and he was 25 years old. He is now abour 66 years old. I am 64 and I remember his very well. They also made Cara Mia which is a fantastic song, but only he can sing the right way.

  • wow always loved this sons and always will

  • Love this song,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

  • I Hope that jay Black Come to the Netherlands

  • Absolutely true. 100%. This is the great

Jay Black of Jay and the Americans who

made this song a smash. He was amazing at The Keswick and the audience went crazy for him. Jay traynor sings with the Tokens, quite well, and was an earlier Jay with some hits. Kenny

Vance was also with the group and still

performing well. Let's keep the facts

straight and give credit where it's due.

Jay Black is a towering talent now and

    then.

  • This song was a hit by the Drifters before Jay and the Americans ever made their first recording. Get your facts straight.

  • I saw Jay Black last night at Kewick.

I love his songs and jokes. What a wonderful performance. What a GREAT voice!! What a magic moment that was !!

  • fraud! not the real Jay. i cant believe someone can just buy a name and call themselevs that artist. not even the real americans. bunch of fakes!

  • It's the real Jay but these are not the Americans (rest of the band). Gotta luck the videos and see that this guy just got old and fat. Watch the video Cara Mia, it's him, but the rest of the band are not the Americans.

  • Nope that's Jay Black. the other guys are just great musicians backing him up. The others touring as J& Americans are the frauds

  • agree ive finally realized this is the real jay the one ive always heard and loved, i really dont care bout the band

  • Oh yes it is the real Jay........Jay Black

  • i just found that out recently , ive seen 3 diff ones and thought this one was jay redecke, i was wrong, i admit,,,,,,,,,, love this guys voice

  • when was this??

  • Beautiful This is The Voice Jay black .

  • Excellent performance by Jay Black & the Americans.

By any chance would you have the complete lyrics to this song.

  • GREAT old song. Would like you guys to listen to MY VERSION and comment please guys. Thank you.

  • Ben E King is the only one who can sing this!!!!!!

  • jay and the americans were the original singers of this song you idiot.

  • Jay and the Americans did their version in1969. The Drifters with Ben E. King as lead singer did this Mort Shuman-Doc Pomus composition in 1960. So, no- Jay and the Americans were not the original singers.

  • The film is Jay singing Cara Mia!!!

  • He IS Jay of Jay and the Americans..End of story.

  • this is the jay i like the one out of the 3 that has the best voice ever. thanx

  • the video's out of sync but he's not lip syncing. I saw this on public TV.

  • Great voice - just wish it wasn't of of sync- it's distracting- loved it anyway

  • Jack Black ..you are a great legend !!!..awesome.

    Marcelo From ARGENTINA!!!!!

  • out of sync---like a japanese godzilla movie. they their lips and sound comes out after they close their mouth. Please fix this.
