Just hearing Gary Oldman saying "Until the End" while showing Harry, Ron, and Hermione holding hands gets to me everytime. Daniel Radcliffe was right. The Oscars are snobs when it comes to movies. Would "Hugo" have gotten a Best Picture nomination if Martin Scorsese hadn't directed it? Probably not. But since it was made by an Oscar darling and favorite it got a nomination.
Unfortunately the Academy is prejudiced against genre movies and comedies. They tend to award only the serious dramas and artistic movies. LotR was a real exception. It's snobbery really. It's like a lot of literary critics are prejudiced against the same types of books. Instead of judging a book within its own genre, they judge all books together and believe that some types are inherently superior to others. Further they believe that only superior minds can recognise and judge superior art.
They did it again! The Academy members are jackasses!! All of the Best Picture nominees are far from being as good as Harry Potter! Deathly Hallows part 2 is without doubt the best movie of the year! The Oscars have officially lost all of their ( little) credibility!!
I was sure the Academy was going to consider Potter, but once more, they snubbed it. Deathly Hallows part II received better critics than all the others films in the Best Pic category, and it's been snubbed. They should be ashamed.
@TheWhiteKnight89 Oh, I wasn't trying to compare LotR to HP, like you said, LotR was way more suitable to be a film rather than HP, and LotR deserved all those oscars. What I meant is that I'm surprised they actually won them, even though it was a fantasy movie. tl;dr screw Hollywood, who are they to decide what quality entertainment is, it should be up to the general public.
Harry Potter is treasured by millions of people and none of the films that were nominated for Best Picture will ever have the impact that these stories and films have had and I think that is far more rewarding than a little gold statue.
I'm disappointed, but then again I shouldn't have excepted more from the Academy Awards. Again and again good fantasy and sci-fi movies have been ignored by these rich Hollywood snubs. I'm still surprised The Return of the King won so many, I guess no historic "based on a true story" movie was released that year or something. Bleh.
@MartCous Lotr was a masterpiece.Potter cannot be compared- it was primarily cashing in on the book craze and was disjointed with several different directors all changing the look of the world-plus the young actors really can't act-they looked the part and got lucky. 'Rings' was made by one director and team who were passionate about the books and poured years of their lives into probably the greatest cinematic achievement of all time. The potter books are brilliant but weren't suited for film.
No oscar nomination for Harry Potter in BP- NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this trailer for the theatrical release would have been better, minus all the spoiler shots of snap and shit. the original trailer gave away too much of the shots and such.
None of the Harry Potter movies have gotten Oscars. They've been NOMINATED, but have never WON. This needs to win. It's Harry Potter's last chance at an award that actually MATTERS.
What i dislike about the oscars is that the critics dont go for the big commercialized movies. In my opinion, DHp2 should have a chance, and it shouldnt be punished for being commercialized.
@airjordan23freak Yeah. And Pixar ALWAYS gets Best Animated Feature, but they never win Best Picture. Thankfully Cars 2 got awful reviews so other films have a fair chance at Best Animated Feature this time around.
@Kingcobrasaurus Last year was so depressing. The animated film field was brilliant, but great films like Tangled didn't even get nominated and even better ones like How to Train Your Dragon couldn't even win.
I want HP to get nominated in maximum number of nominations and even Win an OSCAR ... For Best Movie , Director , Actor , Actress , Supporting Actor and Actress , Effects and every nomination which is possible .. !! HP get an OSCAR .. !!! That would the Greatest day of MY LIFE .. !! <3
Harry Potter needs to get some Oscars but those old bats will find ways to drop Harry Potter out of the Best Picture to put a stupid movie like J.Edgar for the best picture. Oscars are for dramas how boring is that. I haven't seen any movie with high reviews then Harry Potter. THE TIME IS NOW FOR SOME OSCARS!
You can't compare HP with LOTR. LOTR was made in one go, like Deathly Hallows. It had the same team and didn't have a time limit on the production. HP had 7 different productions, with 4 different directors and different artistic teams. It had a tight schedule cause they couldn't wait for the kids to grow too old for their part.
HP probably won't be nominated, but that doesn't mean it's not great!Just because a movie wins or is nominated for BP,doesn't mean it's better than a movie that's not!You really think that the Oscars always have it right? They rarely make a great movie win, and only once the real best movie of the year won(Return of the King)! Among the BP winners, only 10% became part of cinema history, while many great movies who weren't nominated are part of it! HP is the best and is the biggest Oscar snub!
I don't understand why people keep comparing HP and LOTR. They are totally different! Deathly Hallows part 2 and Return of the King belong to different years, you have to compare DH 2 to this year's movies! Speaking of which, HP DH 2 is without doubt the best movie of the year, no matter who will win Best Picture!
Best supporting actor- Alan Rickman. Although, it's kind of a longshot- I think that Oscars (and tell me if I'm wrong) judge movies on a film to film basis- not as a series, so when Snape had the big reveal at the end, it may not receive the attention it deserves. Also, consider that he had few speaking parts. Snape was important in this movie, but Alan Rickman was rarely seen.
But even so, I still hope this wins a few awards. I really do.
@herofromthedark They tend to lean towards historical and cultural films to take home Best Picture, a good example being 'The King's Speech' or 'The Hurt Locker' surprisingly beating Avatar for it. Lord of the Rings has been the one and only exception to this annoying bias.
You know, I believe you're right. I've noticed that myself. It's really annoying. But, on a personal note, I didn't care much for Avatar. It seemed like a mash up between Dances with Wolves, along with Pocahontas, but instead of Native Americans, it's aliens.
WB is really putting a lot of effort for Oscar consideration, even putting up billboards. I hope Harry Potter wins at least one award. I'd understand if it didn't win in the artistic fields, but if it did that would be really great. And if it didn't, well...I guess it could win some technical awards...
The close up of Alan (as Snape) and then Lily speaking just done it for me! Harry Potter has to win an Oscar; it's was the most anticipated film of the year- hell, since the first book came out - and it didn't disapoint!
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 put me right back where I was December 17, 2003 when The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King was released. February 2008, Return of the King won 11 Academy Awards including Best Picture of the Year.
So I think if a movie can put me (and I can guarentee millions of others) right back in that setting from eight years ago, then Harry Potter should also win 11, if not MORE, Academy Awards, including Best Picture of the Year. Long live Harry Potter.
@SuckMyCOG you are really oexagerating, The lord of the ring was 10000 times better than Potter. And you have to realize of that- Potter wont win because the movie was not made with enough force to compite for the awards
@ENRIQUE881 Actually. As much as I like LOTR, I'm sorry, but I think Harry Potter is better. I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "enough force to compete for the awards." It's the largest opening of all time and the third highest grossing film of all time. Getting such attention across the world is not exhaggerating. And if by competition you mean the other 2011 movies; I'm sorry, but I don't recall any 2011 movies that were as good as Harry or made such an impact worldwide.
@8missJZ8 The critics are not the same as the fans. The critics jobs are to comment on the film as it was. But what the film could have been is why the film series has generally been viewed as a let down to the fans. As most film versions of literature are.
oh really? well actually more than half of the fandom agrees that deathly hallows part 2 was the best film. In my opinion, I thought they did a great job. So what they left out a few things, it doesn't have to be 100% accurate. What's more important is the acting and bringing out the true meaning of the story and I think that was done perfectly.
Amazing clip, but did anyone notice that the music in the background is from Kick Ass?
That music is the scene at the end scene just after they flew home when Kick Ass and Hit Girl take of their masks and exchange names. Interesting selection for the consideration video...
it sounds weird but when it comes to awards, harry potter is kind of underrated. For example, look at the actress that played Dolores Umbridge in The Order of the Phoenix. She did some amazing work, Umbridge couldn't have been portrayed better!
@CheesausageTV Yeah! She should have gotten an Oscar too! The Harry Potter Series are incredibly underrated! Because many people dismiss it as kids-stuff! Does that mean that kids-stuff is: people dying almost all the time, a 71 year old guy trying to kill a 17 year old boy and one of the major themes in the series is death?! OH YEAH! That's Kids-stuff! STUPIDNESS!! The fact that the series has never won a single one, is THE most unfair things in the history of film! No, OF THE WORLD!
I honestly couldn't care less if it didn't win or even get nominated for any Academy Awards APART FROM Best supporting Actor. If Alan Rickman does not at least get nominated then there will be hell to pay.
I love this series but I thought the film was a poor adaptation of the book. I know I'm going to get flamed for this, but they changed a lot of stuff that they didn't need to. The series as a whole deserves an Oscar, but the last film was not even close to one of my favorites. I was disappointed. But that's just me. I know people really enjoyed it. Great series. I'll miss looking forward to the films. Morsmordre.
The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter are both brilliant classics that will probably be around forever. I'm a gigantic fan of both of them--it would be impossible to decide which one is better.
The diference between them is that they were both written for different readers. The Lord of the Rings was written for the LotR Generation, and the Harry Potter series was written for the HP Generation. The two different generations will see things differently.
@Misshoneyham you forgot something important. The lord of the ring was better than otter in all the aspects. Directing, adapting, everything. I think you have to know the diference.
yeah but the difference is lotr didn't make as big of an impact as potter did. Many grew up with these films and I can guaranteed that it will still be remembered 50 years from now. You know why? Cause it's the fans that make the difference. A lot will keep reading the books and watching the movies and they'll pass it down to they're children and then so on. I can't say the same for lotr.
Harry Potter is the most acclaimed movie of the year!! Only 2 or 3 movies this year are as acclaimed as HP, so even if the Best Picture slots were only 5, HP would easily make it anyway! C'mon, Academy! Stop making the same boring drammatic movies win! Make the real best movie win! And the best movie of this year is without a doubt HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS PART 2!
Well it seems WB, in their 'Consider' Oscar booklet are favoring Fiennes over Alan. Fiennes has a whole page devoted to him with two quotes from reviewers that LOVED Alan but clearly, those quotes didn't make it into the book because they want Fiennes. I'm officially disgusted, disappointed and downright furious. Reviews consistently praised Rickman and if anything they should have given them equal attention. They better make a seperate one for Alan with all the great reviews he's received
I think Alan's too good for the Oscars. They should be on their flippin' knees begging him to take a day off from Seminar and show up at their crass little party ... How's that sound?
If not best picture, best actor or best director, this brilliant movie should at least win the award for special effects and music. Or it should at least be mentioned with great honor at the ceremony, heck, it should be given an honorary Oscar!
This film deserves an Academy Award -- the entire series deserves at least one Academy Award. Otherwise, the Oscars aren't as prestigious as an award as I once thought. This film sums the last 10 years into one, a lot like Toy Story 3 did. This magical series impacted an entire generation (my generation) and will continue to do so for future generations in decades to come. Compare that to what legacy past winners have left. Many have been forgotten, but Harry Potter will never be forgotten.
I could see this getting a Best Picture nomination, but I just can't see it winning. I don't know why.
But I can see it winning in other categories, such as Art Direction, Score, or even Adapted Screenplay. It just doesn't have that emotional substance that Best Picture winners usually have. Now don't get me wrong, I am a HUGE Harry Potter fan, and would LOVE to see it win. But I'm also a film nerd, and I know what kids of movies win. This just isn't it.
@cinemaker006 This movie moved me more than any other movie in my lifetime (and I'm not a child) so saying it doesn't have emotional substance is rubbish. Maybe there are some YOUNG people who don't get the full emotional substance of the movie but as a person whose lived a bit, I can tell you it was moving.
@cinemaker006 Then again, no, cause most people who do love HP and get it ARE YOUNG so it must just be you and that's fine; to each his own; but you should quantify your 'doesn't have emotional substance' statement with a 'for me' cause for millions it certainly did. Children and adults have learned lessons they'll never forget from HP so what exactly is it lacking? George Clooney, Meryl Streep or the pedophile Roman Polanski? If HP doesn't receive a nomination I'm boycotting the Oscars. Period
@GrissomLovesSara I think what @cinemaker006 means is that it doesn't have the emotional substance for non-Potter fans. I'm a big Potter fan and do think the series definitely deserves an Oscar but I think the Academy voters should first and foremost think of DH2 as a standalone film and not the ending of a great saga. The film buff side of me doesn't want to get my hopes up on an Oscar. And after all, Potter films were done for the fans, not to win awards, and I think that's good.
@sharo8760 I don't know cause, seriously, I was only a very casual Potter fan. I mean I couldn't even call myself a fan. I saw them on TV occassionally and knew the basic gyst of who was who (and I liked Snape and would hope he'd come on) and I still was totally crazy about DH2. I didn't even realize the big towers burning were the Quidditch stands; that's how casual a fan I was and still I loved that movie so much. I agree that Oscars are not that big a deal but it does kind of bug me
@GrissomLovesSara When I say emotional substance, I'm talking in ways of filmmaking. Of course there's going to be an attachment that SO many people have (myself included) to this series, so the finale is a big sobfest of emotion. But I'm talking in the ways of filmmaking.
If you don't understand what I mean, I can't explain it in a YouTube comment. But you just have to understand (a) the way the Academy thinks, and (b) the craft of filmmaking.
I think the Oscars are too uptight about what they allow in, but recently they have been more lenient. The Dark Knight (specifically Heath Ledger) won the only Oscar ever nominated for a comic book movie, and they nominated both Toy Story 3 and Up for Best Picture, all three of which deservingly so, so Harry Potter might have a chance. At the very least I want a nomination for Alan Rickman as Best Supporting Male Actor
@ubitron56 That's true. I know the oscars recognize popular movies. They recognized Avatar and Titanic.. I was just commenting on how critics generally love obscure films that nobody has heard of. I didn't mean that they literally don't recognize popular movies. I can't count how many times a read a review of a critic that said independant film was amazing, and I wounded up hating it. Lost in translation was one of them. That movie bored me to tears.. yet praised by critics.

But nah this should win regardless.
HPTKGL1096 2 months ago

But anyways, HARRY POTTER MUST WIN! <3
Misshoneyham 2 months ago 4
@Misshoneyham you forgot something important. The lord of the ring was better than otter in all the aspects. Directing, adapting, everything. I think you have to know the diference.
ENRIQUE881 2 months ago
@Misshoneyham
yeah but the difference is lotr didn't make as big of an impact as potter did.

Willessia 2 months ago 5
@Willessia Anticipated and acclaimed are different words.

Alan Rickman deserves an Oscar for his portrayal of Snape, he really does.
TheSupaplum 3 months ago 3
I think Ralph Fiennes and Alan Rickman are the best actors in Harry Potter.
mrrickstur 3 months ago 4
Well it seems WB, in their 'Consider' Oscar booklet are favoring Fiennes over Alan. Fiennes has a whole page devoted to him with two quotes from reviewers that LOVED Alan but clearly, those quotes didn't make it into the book because they want Fiennes. I'm officially disgusted, disappointed and downright furious. Reviews consistently praised Rickman and if anything they should have given them equal attention. They better make a seperate one for Alan with all the great reviews he's received

Alan Rickman for Supporting Actor!!!!!
cinemaker006 3 months ago 6
I could see this getting a Best Picture nomination, but I just can't see it winning. I don't know why.
But I can see it winning in other categories, such as Art Direction, Score, or even Adapted Screenplay. It just doesn't have that emotional substance that Best Picture winners usually have. Now don't get me wrong, I am a HUGE Harry Potter fan, and would LOVE to see it win. But I'm also a film nerd, and I know what kids of movies win. This just isn't it.
cinemaker006 3 months ago 2
@cinemaker006 This movie moved me more than any other movie in my lifetime (and I'm not a child) so saying it doesn't have emotional substance is rubbish. Maybe there are some YOUNG people who don't get the full emotional substance of the movie but as a person whose lived a bit, I can tell you it was moving.
GrissomLovesSara 3 months ago
@cinemaker006 Then again, no, cause most people who do love HP and get it ARE YOUNG so it must just be you and that's fine; to each his own; but you should quantify your 'doesn't have emotional substance' statement with a 'for me' cause for millions it certainly did. Children and adults have learned lessons they'll never forget from HP so what exactly is it lacking? George Clooney, Meryl Streep or the pedophile Roman Polanski? If HP doesn't receive a nomination I'm boycotting the Oscars. Period
GrissomLovesSara 3 months ago
@GrissomLovesSara I think what @cinemaker006 means is that it doesn't have the emotional substance for non-Potter fans. I'm a big Potter fan and do think the series definitely deserves an Oscar but I think the Academy voters should first and foremost think of DH2 as a standalone film and not the ending of a great saga. The film buff side of me doesn't want to get my hopes up on an Oscar. And after all, Potter films were done for the fans, not to win awards, and I think that's good.
sharo8760 3 months ago
@sharo8760 I don't know cause, seriously, I was only a very casual Potter fan. I mean I couldn't even call myself a fan. I saw them on TV occassionally and knew the basic gyst of who was who (and I liked Snape and would hope he'd come on) and I still was totally crazy about DH2. I didn't even realize the big towers burning were the Quidditch stands; that's how casual a fan I was and still I loved that movie so much. I agree that Oscars are not that big a deal but it does kind of bug me
GrissomLovesSara 3 months ago

@videogamejo Yet Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King walked away with 11 awards... And that was widely popular.
ubitron56 3 months ago
@ubitron56 That's true. I know the oscars recognize popular movies. They recognized Avatar and Titanic.. I was just commenting on how critics generally love obscure films that nobody has heard of. I didn't mean that they literally don't recognize popular movies. I can't count how many times a read a review of a critic that said independant film was amazing, and I wounded up hating it. Lost in translation was one of them. That movie bored me to tears.. yet praised by critics.
