  • how do you know if the first string is in tune?

  • usually you start by tuning the second string (the A string) with a tuning fork. Then you tune the third, the fourth, the fifth and the sixth string. Finally you tune the first string (i play the second fret of the third string to tune the first one)

  • Pick up a tuning fork. The brokest of broke can afford them.

  • What is a tuning fork? And could you tell me how exactly a digital guitar tuner works? If you don't mind me asking. I am new to this and was wondering how they work before I go buy one. Thanks.

  • It's a Y-shaped metal object about 6 inches object that produces a particular pitch depending on it's size.

  • you need a reference pitch. which you later learn to memorize by ear. :)

  • perfect pitch, tuning fork, tuner, keyboard, etc

  • thanks helped a lot

  • lol he said G string XD

  • this is really good! can i have the tabs?

  • use an eletronic tuner or pitch pipe or just play a chord and hear how it sounds

  • someone please help me! I've just got my guitar restrung for the first time and the guy at the shop said that he tuned it close-ish but that i should do the rest. So i tuned it according to the top (lowest pitch) string and the thinnest one broke! Was it my fault (are you meant to stretch the strings or something) or could they have given me crappy strings?

  • If he tuned your lowest E to high, then your highest E will also be to high ;) i think the shop sucks for not tuning it 100% correctly in the first place.

Normally strings stretch alot when they are new, but they don't brake in tuning :) i never had that, ever.

  • how do you know how its suppose to sound like when its in tune?

  • owwie, my fingers are in pain from just tuning my guitar!

    thank you! :D

  • Thanks, this REALLY helped me out. I've played for like, two years and my high E string was an octave higher than it should've been...Doh!

  • thx a lot SIR

  • this works

  • tunning in the 5th never works if you ever notice when you go to play a chord i like to tun in the 7th freet it works a lot bettere lol

  • piano

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • thx man, u rock =D

  • i got it

  • Uhh, how are you supposed to know if the bottom string(E), is tuned?

    Please answer!

  • Actually, if you were listening to the video, you would know how the bottom string(E) is tuned.

  • you either need to have perfect pitch, or get a pitch pipe

  • do same thing, fifth fret, it should soung like low E string, just a bit higher, but same sound but in a higher pitch

  • Telephone dial tone

  • i tune with harmonics, way cooler :P

  • Cooler maybe...but depending on how you do it, it´s most likely wrong. Can´t do it using the 5th and 7th fret harmonics for example. That´s incorrect.

  • Well, except for the B, you can tune with the 5th fret harmonic of one string and the 7th fret of the next. Those notes will be the same. The problem with this method is that it's too accurate. If you hypothetically had a 13 string guitar tuned entirely in 4ths, by the time you finish tuning with this method, your final string will be slightly sharper than your initial string.

  • So how do u know that your first "e" is in tune?

  • Play the first fret of your "e" string, so an F. if it's the same pitch as your telephones dial-tone, then your "e" is in tune.

  • In france (like me :P) it's a A so 440 hz and "Voila (comme j'aime dire ;))"

  • "it's in choon" lol I love accents!!!

  • I tend to tune from my A string then onwards =P

  • WOOT!

  • i can never tell if its flat or sharp...any tips?

  • if its flat, the note will be to low pitched'

If its sharp it will be to high pitched.

U can tell if ur guitar is tuned by simply strumming it, if it sound wrong than its probably out of tune

  • Of course it hurts x);)

  • what if ur E is out of tune, that means all the strings will gona be out of tune

  • yah.

  • yeah thats why you have to tune your E string first.make sure thats right first.

  • hell yeah !

  • thank you, this video its very helpful

  • didnt help me tune it what happens if E isnt tune then you mess up your whole guitar lol

  • someone hat told me that that sound the telefon says when you are calling someone, you now that. Dyyyooo, Dyyyooo sound. that that is the E string shut sound like. sorry for the bad english. i am an ass.

  • Had a string pop and lash me in the face.

    ouch!

  • hurts like youve been hit by a metal whip

  • hurts like youve been hit by a metal whip

  • Those strings should be given to the military. The guitar could be a great weapon. Wind 'em up and lash them in the face! I got caught with the whiplash from a broken string in the face. Not great.

  • A guitar only needs to be in tune with itself as long as your not playing with another instrument so don't get hung up on the E strng. yes it is better if you use a tuning fork or electronic tuner but not necessary.

  • THANKYOU!!!!!!!!

  • uh oh im confused...

  • he makes it sound like hes talking to a 4 year old " then count up 5 of these metal bars" wtf!?

  • i think it's a kids tv thing

  • actually you should tune your A string first. Its usualy the most stable string on a guitr.

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • LMAOOO. turns head sideways: sam how do you tune you guitar.

  • stemmen gitaar

  • Oh my god, this helped so much! Thank you. And if your bottom E (lowest string) isn't in tune, you need a piano, or any instrument that can play an E. You can also use a tuner. If you don't have any of these things, watch this video again and when he checks his bottom E (or top string), play yours and when both notes sound exactly the same, that's when you go on to all your other strings. Hope this helped!

  • i been trying that but its always gets bad and badder each time

  • best tune guitar vid i seen

  • OH KL MAN!!!now at least i wont have to wait for tuesday n saturday (my guitar classes' days..lol)to get my guitar tuned by my teacher every week..thx man!!

  • I saw your comment about getting your guitar tuned by your teacher every week! Since that was four months ago, have you eventually learned how to tune it on your own, and how so? Io nly ask because I am very much a beginner and dont know how an in tune guitar should sound.

  • wht if the lowest string isnt tuned?

  • Tighten it and get one of your friends G-tars (which is turned) amd compare it till it sounds right, lol, thats what I do

  • like that aint hard to do!

  • it helped TONS! saved me money instead of buying an expensive tuner! man. . hes a genius

  • yes!

  • This has proved useful for some of my students at The American University in Cairo, Egypt. Thanks for putting it online.

  • I just bought a guitar today...thank you so much for helping me tune it!!!

  • my strings are really like hard and thought they were supposed to be a little loose...am i doing it right?

  • if they are too hard may be you whole set up is to high. If you started from the low E then loose it up a bit and start down again.

  • tune the E string to an E on a piano or just use an electrical tuner. depends if your tuning electric or acoustic

  • I've used this a couple times now. Thanks much!

  • you RULE seriously you actually do

  • great

  • You have just made my day, thank you so much for throwing this out there.
