It was a station from Fordhan Univeristy in the Bronx NYC and this man Rich Conaty played songs from the 20's and early 30's. I think he may still be on. Sunday nights from 8 to 12. FM station around 810 or a little higher.
wow, this is the first time i've ever listened to such songs ... but it's so sweet and awesome. By the way .. I always thought the original version "I wanna be loved by you" were sung by Marilyn Monroe :) but Annette's version is really lovely

I was excited when I found this song on Spotify, but I honestly thought it was Helen Kane, not Annette Hanshaw. I'm very surprised that this is actually her...Huh. Interesting.
Annette Hanshaw did her first "Betty Boop voice" recording in 1927. Helen Kane did not record her first record until 1928. Who was copying whom? Didn't matter-Helen and Annette were good friends in real life in New York. Helen encouraged Annette to make more "baby voice" recordings in '28 saying Annette could do a better Betty Boop, but Annette did them so well, Victor Company-Helen's "employer" to which she was under exclusive contract-sued Helen-thinking she had jumped labels to Columbia.
I had never heard of Annette henshaw until I started listening to this radio program thast played songs from the 20's and early 30s. Since then She has become one of My favorites. Now with YouTube Tou can see and hear just about anyone. There is another singer that noone seems to know anything about who was around at the same time as Annette. Her name is Mildred Hunt and You should listen to Her singing Honey.
In my opinion. The ladies are fooling us. The"Pa Pa Pa Doo"at 1.25 is Hanshaw and the rest is Helen. Thank you for this nice, jolly and interesting discussion. Hein

If you like this, you should not miss "Sita Sings the Blues," an animated film available online with many of Annette's songs.

As usual Annette in lovable, but cute as her Betty Boop voice is, She gets eclipsed by Helen Kane doing Betty.

If this isn't Helen Kane than Annette does a damn good imitation!!!!

Oh sorry a few months ago i didnt know what actually went on about annette hanshaws Helen kane imitations
well the record company thought
(annette hanshaw) was (helen kane) recording for another company
so they were about to start a lawsuit against helen kane until they solved out the problem
if fact helen kane & annette hanshaw was said to be close friends & annette did these as a tribiute to helen kane
Cresantstar 2 years ago
@edmundusrex Yes, we have the Helen Kane version of "I Wanna Be Loved By You," and this is definitely a little different.
