I always enjoyed hearing her voice. I would love to hear her acapella with just the backing vocals. One of my favorites and this is coming from an African American man who grew up in the innercity in the 70's & 80's. Music has no color....
now this is a singer. no one sitting behind a booth, shifting buttons to 'fix' any ole females voice of some wanna be who is trying to make a name in the current nitemare we call the music industry. so many fly by nite wanna be's with zip for talent except pelvic thrusts and botox..
@DevoBassGirl Constant cold criticism;controlling;unwilling to let her be individual;Richard working her to death;brother and sister finally move out--only to share a house together [messes with sex life];claims they didn't realize the problem-considered 108 lbs.a normal size[size 0]; wouldn't participate in her therapy-never even called MD for updates;coldly trashed her solo attempt;very unaffectionate;never gave her full credit for carrying the band-Richard was THE 'true' talent...
@definitedoll Don´t worry... We´re all ignorants in one or another aspect. A Super Audio CD (SACD) is a high-resolution, read-only optical disc for audio storage. Is an audio CD but a SUPER audio CD. only for audiophiles...
Without doubt one of the most interesting audio tracks I've ever heard; thanks for giving us this totally unique glimpse into one of the most beautiful voices ever heard....
This song is such a classic - one of my all time favorites! Karen Carpenter was sooo beautiful: her face, smile & voice. Yes, indeed... her vocals are 1 to 1 billion... I miss her sooo much and her voice... d:o)
It was love that broke her heart. She felt she wasn't perfect enough for the man she loved. There were many stories written about why, but one article spoke of a man she was madly in love with and he would say terrible things to her, about her weight, her style, making her feel awful. So many girls get like this, and it's sad to lose the talented ones. She was a superstar and now she's a shining star in the heavens.
@SweetJoyBG Where is this article? It's true that she never found the love she was looking for and that her husband was a jerk, but that's not why she became anorexic.
This is an interesting concept, You can really hear Karen's voice at its best. I had a friend that had a solo act about 25 years ago, whereas he did the reverse. He had some kind of device that could remove the vocals of any recording. Then he would sing his voice in place of it, kind of like karaoke but without the prerecorded music beds. The advantage is that all of his songs sounded just like the original Recordings. And he did all of this live.
You still have to give Richard his due though. Just like Brian Wilson he was a genius when it came to recording multi-layered vocals and intricate melodies. They both needed each other to make their unique sound
Yes it's her with the instruments reduced and no background vocals. This woman didn't need anything in the studio. Her voice was that magical!! Rich, beautiful, deep tone unmatched in the history of pop music!! ENJOY!! :))
Sad to say that in these days of X factor this and pop idiol that, someone with such a sweet, pure voice as Karen probably would'nt make the finals, Makes me glad i'm 50 and lived through such wonderfull times that produced such music
Wow..... I wonder what console was used to record this fantastic song. No cross talk to speak of and what little there is probably headphone leakage.
Amazing voice. I am an audio engineer and for as long as I remember there has been the story about how little EQ and compression they needed on Karens voice..... so pure.
What she did with a lyric will never be seen or heard again. I only hope she realised how much her talent meant to many millions across the globe. From America to here in Australia, she will never be forgotten.
@ADI8421 Hello! This was, in reality, taken from the Carpenters SACD, which has more audio channel divisions than the usual CD. A friend did it, and I uploaded to youtube.
For what ever the reason, Karen didn't have someone she believed when they said she was beautiful. That is sad. She was trully beautiful in both body and voice. I love her smile. It would light up my life.
@baycityblues1976 You know, what you just said is maybe closer to the truth than some would think. There have been some voices (a short list of course) over the years that just seem to have an effect on people that normal singers just can't have. You have to wonder where it comes from...
Count me in on that. If there was just one life I would ask back, of all singers and performers, it would be her. A voice just so unmatchable, priceless. A bitter loss! This track really shows how great her voice and singing was. A great upload! many thanks!
It's a sad statement that she probably would never make it big today because she doesn't look like a Malibu Barbie doll and would have been over 16 years old.
No doubt. John Denver was huge in the 70s. In fact, in Portland Maine, he sold the Civic Center out in record time in the late 70s, faster than Elvis did, though Elvis died just before his date to play in 77 here. But Denver was dead in the 80s, probably cause of too much sentimentality. Carpenters might have had the same.
@pianobillf Not to be a downer but this isnt Karen on drums, Its Hal Blaine who was great studio drummer. She was a very good drummer but not as solid as Hal.
@cjh661 ...Elvis? I can think of others instead of Elvis...most of your other choices were right on the nose. What would the world be like today if we did have John Lennon, Mama Cass, Janis Joplin, Hendrix and Karen Carpenter back?Their deaths brought such changes to the music industry. Now a days...to get ahead you kill off your competition, then write a song about it.
@Black123Beard It's not easy to be great. It's a hell of a lot of pressure. And if you're a sensitive, creative person, as she was, it's even harder. I am a writer and I've had OCD for years...so I feel a sense of kinship with her and what she went through. Of course I'm not famous, but I can imagine how hard that would be...and how hard it must have been for her.
karen, é inigualável, impar; estou a procura de cantora no quase patamar dela, digo quase porque sei que de igual será impossível! Coisas do dom( talento natural adquirido)!!!!!
