  • @Mider999 coz Sam is 62 - MMA fighters - however good - retire well before then. Some of Sam's students have one some national full contact comps thou

  • This looks mad! I love the rapid punches to the head :)

Im starting a Wing Chun school tonight, it's be cool :D

  • i'd hate to be that dummy guy

  • the guy in the mask is called Mark Stanbridge. he has studied under samuel kwok for a long time

  • I pity the punchbag hahahah

  • B-E-A-U-TIFUL!!!!!

  • This video is soo awesome!!!!!! thank you!

  • Yong Tjun = Wing Chun ;) brothers..

  • yay i am learning wing chun soon by one of the disciple of master samuel kwok!

  • This is a great demo! Thank you so much for the slow motion. Wing Chun moves so fast it can be difficult to see. Thank you!

  • No way he would block those kicks using i think right gam sau, he would be knocked out by a powerful kicker! Is there a better way to block the kick?

    Any pointers?

  • I like Samuel kwoks wing chun but wonder is there a better way to block the kick? because in this you see the opponent kick kwok nearly in the head and i think he uses right hand gam sau to block then steps in and punches. I think if that was a proper fight and the kicker was more powerful, like a kick boxer etc i think he would get smashed in the head. Any pointers please? Good video!

  • @cornwallgeezer blocking further up the thigh would help and kicking the supporting leg is good

  • yippee im going to a wing chun class soon :) great vid

  • woow nice display of speed balance nd control

  • smooth

  • I like the speed of wing chun. this move was one of Bruce Lee's favorites, JKD calls it the straight blast, but in Wing Chun its a chain punch i think. Anyway Paul Vunak said that Bruce used this move alot, that its also good against grapplers since a grappler takes advantage of you trying to swing at him and stuff but that this type of punching goes down the center line. thus if a guy tries to grab your legs you can get some shots in on his head

  • palm strikes are good, they are suppose to be as good as a punch but safer. cause your palm is harder then your knuckles (i dont know about this) Anyway there is a guy on here on youtube jon rister he was mixing wing chun and kali it was pretty interesting

  • you are less likely to break your hand with a palm strike (the metacarpal bones break if you punch something hard like the forehead by accident)

  • great fight

  • can someone give me a bit of background info on Samuel Kwok. I would like to know a bit more 'bout him.(who his teacher was, who he trained with, his pupils etc.)

Thank you brothers in Wing Chun ^^

  • his website has everything about him on and its liked to the right in the description. use the top nav and click about sam kwok when on the site

  • He trained underneath Ip Chun and Ip Chin. So he learned from Ip Man's son's. He is a grandmaster, and he is the real deal.

  • Is the person in this video one of Samuel Kwok's students?

  • I would hope that the guys who take these beatings are getting good lessons. Dan Inosanto agreed to be Bruce Lee's "dummy" in exchange for lessons that means basically what this guy in the vid is doing with the helmet.

  • I think 46 punches received this guy in his head

  • I wanna be trained by you master...

    Respect

  • That is one hardcore fighter. My construction teacher teaches this, im going to start training with him soon.

You can tell that by about the 4th minute of this video the 'punch bag' is getting a bit more wary, maybe its down to the fact he received about 12,000 punches to the face whilst filming this lol

  • THat helmet doesn't seem like much of a protection, would someone bother to count the punches this guy recieved in his head in the video?

  • Had the pleasure of attending a seminar by Master Sam Kwok in Edinburgh a few years back. The guys is awesome to watch up close and such a real nice guy. Very patient and witty. Explains things brilliantly.

  • Starting studying this on Monday, well looking forward to it. I like the way the first Sil Lim Tao form present pretty much all of the basics, you can tell how countless practices of it develop subtle technique. Can't wait :D

  • great video, thank you

  • Terrific video!

  • Very good video indeed. Thank you!!!

  • I just have discovered tis kind ot martial art and I find it amazing.Next year I will begin to practice it.

  • nice

  • nice.. really effective in street fighting!

  • An excellent display of top notch Wing Chun from a Master!

  • dont wanna be the guy in white xxD

  • Nice Wing Chun

  • a very nice visual aid to anyone studying or wishing to study the art. one of the best demonstratory wing chun videos ive seen

  • in wing chun do they punch and block like that all the time and how long would it take to get that power and speed?

  • Traditionally yes. A few months on conditioning will get you well on your way, just make sure you're doing it right, using your lat muscles (the ones under your armpits) as much as possible.

  • Had the first induction course today. Total value for money, and looking forward to beginning my training proper.

  • This is an AMAZING demonstration. Very effective and speedy Wing Chun applications!

This Sifu sort of looks like an older Donnie Yen, too.

    - Respects from a Tai Chi Mantis practitioner

  • Please, please, please dont judge WC off of what you are seeing here. Not to say tha Kwok is bad, just saying that the attacker is a stooge and realizes that he is supposed to get hammered....

  • hence the video title ... fighting applications DEMO

  • 可怜的面具人

  • 是

  • I like it! Well done!

  • id like to sparr with you

  • who is the guy in the mask the stig does anyone no

  • Very Fluent, I would like to see him in actual combat though to see the full precision of his attacks.

  • Great stuff, I love my lineage. Master Kwok is brilliance. I've seen him drag someone along the floor for suggesting that lap sau wouldn't work, (Manchester Ip Chun Seminar / Ip Chun's 80th @ Jersey Street club), we all laughed! Ip Chun displayed that size doen't matter against my 6'4 and fair showed me up during chi sau, haha.

  • I train this for 3 years and i can say that its best for self defense,it helped me countless times...

  • Incredible vid. That guy is very good.

    But i have a question.

    I am a seasoned boxer/BJJ/MMA fighter.

And was looking into a good standing fighting style.

Boxing is great and all.But isnt as effecting as other martial arts.

Ive looked into tkd, karate, ninjutsu, and wing tsun.(Or wing chun.)

So far wing chun seems like a very focused fighting style.Such fast and precise movements.Balanced with some nice counters.

My question is.Would this be a nice addition to a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu fighter?

  • yep - see my other video (the Carlson Gracie one)

  • Whats the name of the song??

  • WC is not as fancy as mma but way more practical for self defense, wc for ever, this vid is great

  • mma is also practical, and for sure not fancy, but you have to train what fits you the best!

  • IM chinese and i moved to vancouver. many chinese ppl live here. Do u know the best place to learn wing chun here?

  • Man i got a question for yall please somebody reply, is it to late to start this sport at 16 years old or can i still learn it im not talking about being a pro or something just knowing the sport good for your selfdefence

  • 16 is still young I started at 18 and Im an instructor now If you have a good teacher like sam kwok and put in a couple of hours every day in a year you will know some self defence and in 3 years you will be ok :-)

  • I started taking Wing Chun at age 30. I stopped for a few years, and now I'm 35 doing it again. Whenever you start, the main thing is to stick with it! Look up some vids of Ip Chun, and you'll see that he can still go even as an old man. More importantly, he states that WC is not just for self-defense and fighting, but also for keeping in shape physically and mentally.

  • I hear what you are saying, but Wing Chun is not "sport".

  • I agree with LWC on this one, but I would hesitate to call Wing Chun a sport, or to enter into it with the "tournament" mentality. If anything, I'd say 16 is a great age to get into MA, but don't wait or put it off...when I started MA at 18 I just remember being upset that I didn't start sooner.

  • there's a movie titled " IP MAN " .. its based on the life story of the grandmaster/shifu of wing chun !!

.. its one of the great martial arts movies to watch

  • yeah it´s very good. but to can to this you have to be very fast... and thats the problem

  • This is hot stuff. Man Wing Chun is not famous for kicking but those few low kicks are simply awesome. I sat here and cheered at 2:09!

I have Samuel Kwok's 'The Path to Wing Chun' book next to me: it's like my freaking bible right now.

  • What a Guy, What a Master. Thay say real Kung Fu doesn't look prity, but master Kwok makes it look good and work. I have nothing but respect for Master Kwok. I love Wing Chun.

  • chum kiu punch at 3:12... devastating...

  • excuse me can anyone tell me what the song is?

  • Good master!

  • the bong to the face was nice

  • 1:47 - krav maga, bursting?

  • Wing Chun Chain punching, its likely Krav Maga got it from wing chun. As Krav maga is a much more recent martial art

  • One of my Krav instructors I spoke with at a seminar mentioned he trained in Wing Chun and some of the techniques are almost the same. I train in Krav and Wing Chun now

  • ip man wing chun? then what am i learning every wednesday at the national wing chun traning gym? Looks alot like this. I recognised the bong sou (however u spell) and fook sou.

  • This is Ip Man Wing chun as passed on by ip chu nand ip ching

  • there are no rules in wing chun !!!! wing chun was created to kill without any fancccccyyyy movements ! thats why everysingle hit goes to the neck or head ..

  • Which is why i love it!!! And that's why watching MMA is gay because none of these moves are allowed! They need to create a fight to the death on MMA.

  • i thought that.. u were not allowed to use elbows in wing chun!

    1:01

  • You thought wrong. Elbows play a key role in Wing Chun (chum Kiu and Biu Gee)

  • i agree there good close quarter weapons

  • Elbows play a huge role in every aspect of wing chun, as they are a key point of the Lat Sau Jeet Cheung and assist the maintainance of a relaxed structure.

  • wing chun and kung fu in generally are not athletics sports, they are martial arts, and in martial arts there are no rules

  • I know, it really doesn't take any athletics to perform martial arts! Oh and I had it wrong too, I thought Wing Chun was kung fu.

  • Hehehe

Actually kung fu is a broad term used now-a-days to describe martial arts that come from china. Originally it was a term to describe someone's success in a skill.

So, wing chun is a form of kung fu :p That doesn't mean that kung fu is wing chun though, because there are about 400 different styles of kung fu these days.

  • Wing Chun is Kung Fu

  • yeah thats what this ancient art needs to have full impact: creed!

  • Impressive to see how fast he actually reacts to attacks, by the time the attacker has his foot half way on it`s way towards Samuel Kwok he is at the sime time on his way down to the floor.. when Kwok does it, it look effortless.. would be an honor to train under him!

  • I learnt Wing Tsun for quite a while, and it is truly a very devastating form of fighting.

However, due to it's extremely technical nature, it's one of those skills that is easy to learn but hard to master.

Its key skills are its simplicity; "Why go round the sun to get to the moon?"

As well as training the different forms of WT, the student will also learn an array of techniques specifically to deal with different martial arts.

I would recommend it to everyone!

  • I fully agree with the comments above !

  • Trained with Sam a good few times.

Well worth the time if you can make it.

Been a long time for me sadly!

  • Wing Chun is for sure a good martial art to use in real fights, like on the street... most like Aikido, but aims directly to the face of the opponent most of times.

  • 2:04 is awesome. the guy like crumbled to the floor lol

  • think he would be uncomfortable close range up against a good boxer as he would take him out...the kicks might be the only advantage..interesting though.

  • Sam Kwok trains with lots of good boxers, including former world middleweight bare knuckle champion Paddy Monaghan (see other videos) Also Wing Chun is more than comfortable at close range (elbows etc). they are different ways of fighting, the better fighter will win.

  • the shoulder is also good for close rights as well.

  • Who knows! Yet to be seen. Only speculations so honestly to god, no one can really tell who will win.

I for one would want to see kwok go up against a boxer thats in the same weight class as him. Would be great to watch!

No, I wouldn't cheer on just one! as its all about martial art and not the artist themselfs, for me!

    Great video!!

  • reminds me of ip man =D

  • perfect demonstration of the modern wing tsuns spirit! great!!

  • This is the best wing chun demo ever! NICE!

  • thanx for this vid man!

  • greath vint sung, sifu greetings from Mèxico city

  • the thing at 2:45 i happened to be training a few days ago :D

  • Great demo... I have to say, the people making comments about "why isn't student fighting back" and such... it's a demo video, not a fighting clip. Thanks for sharing this!

  • I like his fighting style, though.

  • Why isn't his student fighting back?

  • Its just a demonstration of how to apply Wing Chun hence one person has head gear the other gloves, its not set up to be a fair fight its just so beginners can get some ideas

  • I really enjoyed the vidio SIFU you have my respect. Its nice to see someone who knows there art so well. Not many are out there. I will look into WING CHUN more deeply

  • nice, but why does his partner keep falling over all the time? lol

  • BTW: the slomo is GREAT!

  • very interesting. good add-on for my practices.

  • Excellent moves...but the sequence when the arm is left out in a frozen position after missing a punch or the defender is intercepting a punch is a waste of sparring time, nobody leaves their arm out in a frozen position. But overall the applications are very useful.

  • Samuel Kwok is definitely one of the best masters around! I've seen some of the other stuff he's done over the years and the thing I like about him is the applications are direct and realistic. So many so-called masters out there teach completely unrealistic scenarios with ridiculous counters. Kwok is the real deal for sure.

  • no doubt!!!

  • he is good. nice video.

i wish we can have a friendly spar sometime.

  • i put KWOK in top 3 wing chun masters in the world :)))

  • there are at least 10 masters as good as or even better than kwok. there are at least 5 older generation masters so how can he be in the top 3? not that it matters, they are all great

  • This guy is a master.

  • at 2:11 it looks like he broke his leg!

  • it does XD

  • I don't do wing chun, but it appears like a push kick, which can break a leg, if you strike someone on their knee with it. He hit above the knee. Do the same in our martial art Ching Wu.

  • its best not to break you friends leg when training ;)

  • Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha... Good advice. I must remember to tell my students that one tonight!

You're doing a great job lancswingchun thanks for all the great vids you've posted over the years!

Hope to see you again soon. jasma98 ;-)

  • Cheers, Hope your club is going well =)

  • you can break the leg yeh but its a block more then anything :P stop his leg coming up. it good training on the other side too.. keep your leg flexible.

  • basic movements, but good.

  • Better than Bruce Lee. awe-inspiring!

  • this is what bruce lee learnt first

  • great master kwok

  • Excellent!

  • Is this all chreographed? I swear the the guy getting beaten up is actually trying to attack but getting patronized evrytime!!

  • yes it was planed, it is designed to clearly show how to use various wing chun techniques.

  • i've been doing wing chun for a while and i've always been taught to put your leading hand eye level, in this vid the guy isn't is that normal?

  • in wing chun, like other chinese fighting styles, the stance varies. If your hands are really swift and opponent is not in punch distance, u may keep hands a bit lower not to wear out your shoulders. Yet again, holding it at your eye level keeps them ready for any surprise attack. I suggest holding at eye level unless you are sure u can block blows to the head when your hands are lower. Kicking to the head is harder than to the stomach so if u know your opponent is not a kicker u may hold lower.

  • It is a matter of preference - but if your hands are high your ribs are exposed and if they are low your head is exposed so keeping them in the middle (neck height) is best for me, that way they are never too far from a potential attack.

  • Master Kwok's top student has now set up a class in south wimbledon community centre, Monday nights. I've trained under other Masters before, but none compare to the real deal. Don't be ripped off by fake sifu's.

  • brilliant wow greeeeeeeeeeeeeeat

  • Excellent video - demonstrates many of the basic Wing Chun techniques. Good hand techniques - shows effectiveness of simultaneous attack/defense. Excellent body positioning - good work in capturing centerline. I especially like his footwork. Most people focus just on the hands/arms. However the use of counter kicks and shifting footwork has tremendous benefit. Good video to learn from.

  • Cracking applications. Good to see some good applications of Wing Chun. Samuel Kwok is keeping Ip Man Wing Chun alive. I want more videos!

  • Had the honer of having Sifu Kwok in our studio. Pleasure to have meet him. Great master and a great human being.

  • never lead with a round kick, isn't that obvious?

  • Had the pleasure of training with Kwok Sifu in Blackpool.

    He keeps the art alive.

  • definitely! I had the pleasure of training with him in Virginia in March.

  • Very good demonstration. You can see the power and precision in the moves of Sifu Kwok. It is obvious that he has been influenced by Ip Ching and Ip Chun. Much better than the LT and EBMA stuff you see on youtube.

  • nice moves

  • yee i doo the same kind but in calgary lool wing chun kung fu academy

  • hi does anyone no were i might be able to get a used wooden dummy

  • make one man. cheaper.

got one in my backyard as good as gary lams is.

  • if you want designs to make one i can email you some

  • can you email me the designs to make a wooden dummy?

  • send me a personal message with your email on and ill send some over at some point although im quite busy this weekend

  • mookjong15: I have trained with Sifu Phil Nearing for several years. Currently on hiatus unfortunately. I have nothing but the highest respect for Sifu Nearing. He is top notch and has taken the time and respectful dedication to learn from the best Wing Chun people in the world. He has proven himself a respectful and wonderful representative of Wing Chun in it's pure Yip Man form. He can take a rookie and teach them how to be a person capable of fighting with skill and WCKF form.

  • Shades of Money Changer Wah! Wish I lived in the UK so I could study with Sifu Kwok. BTW, I have studied with Phil Nearing (and Steve Swift). Phil is excellent.

  • has anyone here ever trained with Phillip Nearing

  • Ving chun for ever.........i'm training on this 5 months now

  • thankyou, new vid, good technique. best part is the slow motion so the moves are more clear.

  • *clearer

  • Try to think of this video as a demonstration of techniques, a list if you will, rather than an actual fight as this has been filmed in an empty kwoon. The intention of this is to help people who don't know much about wing chun see how it can be applied in different ways.

  • this is cool video and good techniques

No wonder Carlson Gracie want to train his fighters with Philip Nearing

  • r u one of philip nearings students?

  • wichin chun may be ugly...but damn. I'd rather be ugly any day. Hurray for Ving Tsun

  • Rofl, that made me laugh.

    But its true :)

  • the only minus in wing chun is that their kungfu is ugly but the most effective in a street fight and those tho see that kungfu on tv thats WUSHU wich is more of a showoff art.

  • Just to clarify, Wushu's definition is the art of the fighting, similar to the meaning of KungFu.

  • This vid is very cool!I like it! :)

  • sifu kwok "respect" chisao is awsome you only have to touch hands with the likes of bill mckay and harry cannon, to see sifu kwok teaches well

  • man the guy with mask telegraphed sooooo much. hes not a well trained fighter, but i saw other vids of kwok he would intercepted even if he didnt telegraph

  • I think the guy in the mask is supposed to represent the average attacker on the street who will almost always telegraph their attacks (just watch any amateur fighting vids on youtube, many of these so called fighters telegraph their punches miles away).

  • yeah he did, but so do most average joe's on the street.

  • nice

  • Sam kwok is a real master awesome

  • too much slow mo, but the technique looks great

  • This is Aawesome the harder you kick the easier you fall

  • sam is a true grandmaster the wing chun he teaches saved my life in iraq

  • Really? Fascinating, can you elaborate please?

  • awesome video. I know alot of kung fu styles but wing chun is one of the most valuble syles you can learn

  • i love infighting. its so scientific. i am a layman at wing chun kung fu but with diligent practice i am a much better fighter than before i started.
