i have the exact same spec i7 27" imac but mine has 16gb and it flys ! the reason i upgraded to so much as ive used up 700gb on my imac through my work, applications and movies/tv shows (Itunes) its near the speed of the SSD imac only when the files aren't cached.
@RonjaMiin= the imac i7 can handle opening up all the apps at the same time but there would never be a need for this and its different for every user as everyone uses there mac for different purposes. e.g. im a Graphic design student and i use Adobe Illustrator CS5, Photoshop CS5, Indesign CS5, Flash CS5 after effects and soundbooth CS5. These require a lil bit more ram :P il try post a video of my imac opening all of the apps at the same time.
Is it the 8GB of ram that made it so fast or is it the i7 Quad-Core 2.8GHz? cause 4GB vs 8GB isn't that much different when you are only running a few programs at once.
@TerryCPiano my notebook with i7 1.6Ghz & 4GB ram can open CS5 64bit in 8-9sec cold, less than 3s warm. I guess in this case, this i7 and fast hard disk matter the most. CS is not using the whole 8GB or even 4GB to open up. just my 2cents

@TerryCPiano It's the processor. 4GB vs 8GB won't make any difference... at all.
