  • love the music at the begining what is that?

  • @roc11978 Doing Time ... SUBLIME

  • Could i use sunfish for bait for catfish/pickerel/large mouths

  • @mtednby21 Sunfish are EXCELLENT live bait for big bass and cats and I'm sure pickerel, too ! In Virginia, it is legal to do so ... but ... you have to catch each one by legal methods. Hook and line only ... no nets. Any gamefish in VA has to be caught on rod and reel. As long as the fish is legal, you can use it for bait. Check your local regs ...

  • @8darian1208 how should i rig em i hav a 3way swivel and i hav 2 songle hooks on it willl that work

  • @mtednby21 Come hook up with me on facebook at 5 Degrees of Fishing ... post up the question on my wall and let me know where and what kind of water you are fishing and I will give you an in depth answer ... ;)

  • How do you take this fish off hook? Grab it by mouth or put hand around it?

  • @TheDevenrocks If it's big enough, you can lip it. Usually you start near your pinky finger and slide from it's mouth, down it's body. That way you lay down it's spikey fins and don't gut stuck and can hold it.

  • @8darian1208 Thank you! will try tommorow!

  • hey so you just cast it and reel it in slowly? please respond.

  • @l3l3oyAce If using the beetlespin ... yes. I like to give it small twitches while reeling it in as well. If using the live cricket ... just leave it in position and check and recast if nothing takes for a while. With the beetlespin, I reel in as slowly as possible without dragging bottom or weeds.

  • @8darian1208 yesterday i caught a huge 2lb 10in bluegill with hotdogs

  • @justinbieberisgay15 You'd have to post that up to my 5 Degrees of Fishing Page on facebook ...for me to believe it ! >:D It would have to be as wide as it was long !?

  • @8darian1208 i put it up there

  • @justinbieberisgay15 I saw it and commented ... ;)

  • @8darian1208 whole kernel corn works very good and you catch big bluegills with it. i caught a 8 1/2 in, bluegill today using corn.

  • @justinbieberisgay15 A lot of fish will eat corn, but I wouldn't use it to target bluegills. I prefer to give them what they eat naturally. But if it works for you and where you fish ... I wouldn't change it !

  • I caught my monster at high noon! check him out at my channel, video name: MONSTER BLUEGILL!!!

  • We got a spot bout 23 feet deep we pull up 9 inch bluegill all day on any thing bread worm beetle spins crickets corn and maggots

  • i go to a tiny pond by my house. and we burn up the bluegill and cats!

  • At laguna lake I caught a lot of blue gill just using bread on a tiny treble hook.

  • @fisherkid153 Sure ... you can catch bluegills on many things, but with bread .... depending on the lake ... they are usually very small. If you don't want to hurt future populations of fish, you may want to stop using the treble hooks. If you are not keeping them, and releasing them, it's quite possible they will die shortly if their tiny mouth is destroyed by a treble hook ! A small, single hook with a long shank is just as effective at hooking them and much easier on the fish.

  • Oh man I LOVE Sublime....

  • @SpinelessScales Then you must check out the last video I just posted ! :)

  • what size hooks are you guys using?

  • @TheinfamousJoker Not sure of the exact size, but the gap is @ a 1/4 inch or less. I like using the gold wire hooks that have a longer shank. Easier to get the hook out of their mouth !

  • i love just watching people fish it just gets me in the mood and makes me want to fish its justs o relaxing

  • @Dannie44Buckipanther Join us on facebook for a whole lot more ! Tight lines !

  • @Dannie44Buckipanther couldnt agree with you more

  • Damn man this video made me really wana go fishing! It reminds me of when i was young and me and my dad would get up really earlly take the boat out and just catch slab ass bluegills all day long. It looks like a good time to do some topwater bassen in this vid. to

  • @pelletgun12 Yes, it is ! Go fishing ! :)

  • @8darian1208 My lakes are frozen over! I want to go but i cant i dont have any gear and my parents dont love me enough to let me go anyway. (JK about the last part)

  • @pelletgun12 Been dealing with that myself some ! Ponds are frozen, but the rivers are clear. Good thing I'm an adult and have a boat and a driver's license ! :D

  • @8darian1208 Lucky! i went anyway and made a whole with a hammer and to my suprise caught some nice slab crappie. Sure i got shit for it when they found out a day later because of my best friend but it was worth it to me Anyway i wish you good fishing and keep up the great videos for time to come

  • are u guys using a slip bobber rig? and if so do u recommend using a swivel for bluegill and crappie?

  • @HATINTHEKAT Yes, I do. BUT ... I only recommend the use of a barrel swivel just before the leader. My video on the slip bobber rig details the way I do it. The barrel swivel allows the minnow to swim more natural and in circles without twisting your line ...

  • i live on a big creek and when i fish in my10 foot jon boat on a good day i catch 30-45 i use hot dogs just use bar s franks they are cheep olny 75cents for a pound. thanks for the tips TheFishyMan1000 thumbs up!!!

  • i use hot dog for bait and it works good on a good day out on my 10 foot jon boat would be 30-45 blue gills i live on a big creek and it is about 30-38 feet in the middle has a lot of turns and points so i fish off them and they do very well good vid thanks TheFisheyMan1000

  • @TheFishyman1000 Maybe one day I will try it ... but I do prefer natural, live bait if fishing with bait. Cool deal !

  • You guys should try tight lining. It's awesome and the fish are mostly bigger. Good eating...

  • you dont need a boat for bluegills go off of the shore

  • @MegaLeathal no ... you don't. But in some instances it's a huge advantage and on some bigger bodies of water it is a necessity to get to the big ones ... on the pond is in this video, you can't fish the front edge of that dock from the shore (where the big ones hide in the deepest water).

  • I catch plenty of bluegill ranging from 4 ounces all the way up to 8 ounces on topwater cricket lures and bigger fish, some hitting the 10 ounce mark on a tiny wet fly below a bobber. Great vid. I never use live bait but fun to watch. Today I caught my 340th bluegill of the year mostly on small wet flies.

  • @Allaroundstuff Very nice ... Thanks !

  • @Allaroundstuff bluegill fishing with live bait is the easiest way to catch them and with lures you wont catch much unless your using a crappie jig

  • @xBiSxOvErDoSeD i have caught so many fish on dry flies...like 30 a day when the conditions are right. just experiment with the color of the fly and see what the fish want. usually i find they hit better on flies when it is cloudy and cool. I catch the most in the fall. crappie jigs are good too

  • @Allaroundstuff Problem is ... I don't like fly fishing ! I usually catch between 30 and 60 by 9 am on crickets ... spring time is the most active, with fall a close second around here. There is a guy where I fish that uses flies and tears em up all day long ... but I just can't get in to it ! I'm a spinning guy ... :P

  • @8darian1208 I hate fly fishing too! I use an ultralight spinning rod spooled with 4 pound line. I put a small bobber, 1 inch is fine about 3 feet above the fly and toss the whole rig out there. I just twitch that along really slowly with a long pause after 6 twitches. They will hit so hard! I usually dont fish for a whole day, I will go out for 2 hours and catch 30 in 2 hours, not after like 7

  • @xBiSxOvErDoSeD i have caught so many fish on dry flies...like 30 a day when the conditions are right. just experiment with the color of the fly and see what the fish want. usually i find they hit better on flies when it is cloudy and cool. I catch the most in the fall. jigs are good too

  • i fish a low altitude lake now it full of weeds the weeds are so thick my dads depthfinder get read through it so all the fish are stuck ether abovethe weeds or in some thinner stuff i cath 7-8 inch bluegill but cant get the bigger 10 inchers to bite some of them are pretty fat so i dont no if there just not hungry ive fly line worms, crickets, pieces of bacon, flys, crawdad meat, and thrown 1/64 once and 1/32 ounce jigs with and with out beetle spins atached to them the lake is krystal clear help

  • @EvanandGregComedy Do you use fluorocarbon ? If not ... you really need to try that. Try deeper with the crickets on a slip bobber. Fluoro can be a game changer on clear water ...

  • @8darian1208 o i use mono and that sounds like a good idea but im going to the bait store today is 2 pound line to light for bluegill around cover becuase i might need to go to 2 pound Fluoro and were do you get crickets theres none out i moved to oregon and its 50-60 all day long do i have to just go to the pet store and by them and were do you get the contaners for them

  • @EvanandGregComedy I'll answer any more questions on Facebook ... :)

  • they make great bait :) the bluegills that is

  • @onogrirwin yes they do ! But that's another show ... :D

  • nice vid

  • @kylerocks213 Thanks ! Be sure to check out the latest as they come out, now in HD !

  • It sounds so good out there in the morning. All the wildlife noises are calm and serene

  • @MLKJRJR There is nothing quite like first light on the water !

  • I use fake gulp worms. And once caught 13 in 3 hours. Thats my record. But when i did it was around 2pm.. Afternoon.. And i could see them swimming around under the dock. It was at lake mission viejo. Then i used them as bait to catch bass. But didn't catch any. I could see the bass too. And they both snapped my line because i am a new fisher, and was using 2lb test line. It came with a fishing kit i bought from target.

  • @Honeebuket If you would like tips, info or help with your fishing, check us out on facebook at 5 Degrees of Fishing. Thanks for watching !

  • i use cricket s and i catch monsters

  • @youngfishingboy3333 well then ... you got it down ! Nice job !

  • @8darian1208 thx

  • @youngfishingboy3333 me too, one trick is to cast under docks, plants grow well in shade and provide protection, making a sanctuary for large bluegill and sunfish. I do dock fishing by just dropping it off the side of the dock, and I can catch 30 fish in a day, they hid under the docks by the 100's

  • @youngfishingboy3333 how do you hook a cricket on???

  • lol bluegill and CRAPPY. i hear most people pronounce it Croppy

  • @supertyler225 I call them crappie and also pronounce it crappy. How does bream get pronounced brim ? LOL

  • i cant beleive u didnt keep them...y not?

    cool vid

  • @floridabassmasters2 I don't usually keep to many fish in the summer, and this was in the summer. In the winter you don't need ice, you don't have to smell the dead fish carcuses in your trash for days, you don't get eaten alive by mosquitos while you clean the fish, you don't have to deal with flies and the fish are much easier to keep alive for fresh cleaning and eating. I am less and less into summer fishing every year and the sweating. The other seasons produce better for me.

    There u go !

  • Please avoid the use of profanity if you want your comments approved ...

  • Do the Crickets need to be alive or can you buy the canned ones from the pet store

  • @gsikes2 Live is always best and what I use. I didn't know you could even buy them "canned". Sounds kind of nasty ! ha ha ha :D

  • i love fishing bluegill in the morning

  • @fishingwithkmarine Morning is almost the best bite for all I fish for ... and it's much cooler in the summer ! :D

  • id never get up that early for bream!!!

  • @yupyup39 ... and if you were fishing in VA ... you would never catch the real big ones ! Morning bite is always best and a lot cooler than mid day ....

  • @8darian1208 i could wait till like 4 in the afternoon in alabama go to my buddies pond catch 13 inch bream all dayyy

  • @yupyup39 lucky you !

  • i just never knew you could eat them like if they were any good but im more of a lake trout person

  • @daj145 They are excellent if big enough ... sweet meat !

  • theres a lake 30minutes from me you catch them size of diner plates but i dont eat them

  • @daj145 NICE ! ... but you are missing out on some good eats if you like to eat fish ! Water does need to be clean, tho .... and there is nothing wrong with catch and release ! The vast majority of my fish are released ...

  • What action rod were u using?

  • @VermonstersinNJ medium to light action. Ultra-light can be more fun, but can be tough with the hook setting. I think the rod used in this vid was straight medium ... but I use a LOT of rods ! :D

  • @8darian1208 ok thanks!

  • awsome vid man

  • @Survival96 Thanks ! Check out facebook or richmondsigns(dot)com for the last one in HD ....

  • with my friends and i its the opposite when ever we go out fishing we catch the fish when we're not paying attention

  • @crazykawafool Well that's how it works ... it's like they know ! :D

  • im going fishing tonight

  • @fishNhooks1 Hope you had some luck !

  • this wensday i went to my local pond with a red flie at the end of my line , in the middle of my trip i had to retie to a yellow flie because i caught so many bluegill and most of them desent sizesd and ,my biggest of the day was a 1 pound bullgill i wieghed it, that they ripped my flie to shreds

  • @EvanandGregComedy Very nice! I want to see these 1lb bluegills ! If you join us on facebook you can post pics there ...

(5 Degrees of Fishing - The Hunt for Trophy Fish)

  • @8darian1208 will do next time i go i will bring the camra

  • yeah my biggest bluegill ever was 17 " long!

    2 lbs big as hell

  • got pics !? join us on facebook (above) and post em up ! Nice !

  • Comment removed

  • nice fish

I love to fish for panfish it's one of my favorite types of fishing and they taste the best too!!!!! I've never tried fishing with crickets I might try it

  • @sretyy You should ! They work great ! :)

  • those are females, small bluegills man, you want the black ones. them bigguns that piss when you squeeze em.

  • @FISHORDIE100 For here ... they are all way above average in VA. Many come out over a pound and if you watch both videos ... they did pee when squeezed. But you know better than I do ... LOL

  • why did he throw that first one back it was good

  • @7190pdog Sometimes I just don't feel like cleaning fish ! If I keep them, then I feel I need to give an explanation of when and how that is okay to be a responsible angler ... so I usually catch and release in the videos ! Then I don't have to talk as much ! :D

  • ive caught hundreds of bluegill sometimes in a cool lake in nj

  • very cool catching gills in a cool lake in nj ! :D

  • i found out last wenesday that blue gill will bite on bacon i caught some nice fish on it it stays on longer , i caught 10 fish that day and had to rebait 3 times, its better uncook and great with bobbers

  • @EvanandGregComedy mmmmm ... BACON ! Who doesn't like bacon !? :D

  • I fish in the 2 ponds and creek at my dads house in valley springs california catch bullgill. And bass haha I'm only 13 but fish really good keep the vids coming

  • @96SGN Keep it up ... and will do !

  • Wur

  • man, those are some noisy birds.

  • No doubt ! ... not much I could do about em ! :D

  • 6:03 --- LMFAO!! That WAS a horrible example. You guys know how it's done, man. Here in cali, its really hard to find nice bullgills. Its still possible. We have this place called lake perris, and the bluegill are ENORMOUS there. Possibly the biggest 'Gills most people will ever see!

  • @mmmmmarcus Glad you got a kick out of it ! Humility isn't a bad thing , is it ? I like to keep it "reel" ... not even the pros are perfect ! ha ha ha

Big gills are GREAT to eat ! Nice !

  • are you using live crickets?

  • @caboom3394 YEP ! Those and grasshoppers are my fav bait for the big gills. They can't resist em !

  • PLEASE HELP!! i desperately want to catch bluegill this summer. i'm told they are the best freshwater eating fish. I don't have a boat, but i have all the equipment. Light rod, 4-6lb test, small hooks and i get nightcrawlers. Its early january in chicago, i plan to go starting in mid march, when is the best time of year, time of day? size of hooks? can i be successfull from the shore? what size should i aim for to make a good lunch?

  • mid march may be early up there, but the beginning here. april and may are good, too. better to start early and not miss the big ones spawning ! big ones can easily break 4-6lb test. make sure you have a good drag and set right or step up. i use 8lb stren low vis green. long shank gold wire hooks are best, easier to get out of their mouths. small hook, but not too small. the bigger gills can be lipped. shore is no prob, just look for drop offs to deep water or structure.

  • fish are usually in 2-5' of water. if you use the slip bobber rig i detail in another of my videos, you can figure out where the deep water is from the shore. if the bobber doesn't stand up ... bait is in the bottom. smart to try two different rods at different depths, then dial in which is getting more action. i usually look for ones you can barely get your hand around or bigger to eat, but I fillet and bluegills are tough to get decent fillets, gutted, cleaned and whole is better if small ...

  • they are distinctly sweeter than any other freshwater fish. I have eaten all of my citations over a pound ! :D Check out the info on this vid and for more got to the squidoo link or even my website at richmondsigns(dot)com ! Good luck !

  • thanks for the advice!

  • i know I can buy it at the store or a restaurant ... but unfortunately that is about the extent of my knowledge ! We don't have them here to catch ....

I also know they taste good ! :)

  • wow you catch alot of them and quickly

  • ... the result of being a student of the sport ! figure out where they live, what they eat ... and when they eat it and you, too can slay em ! :)

  • why dont you guys set down the camera and both fish?

  • we usually do ! ... that's why some of the best days fishing have no footage ! who wants to film over fish !? :)

  • WOW I can't believe you consider those gill's small. I catch 3" one's in my local lake. LOL! A big one for me is like 7"+. EIther way very nice and informative video.

  • For that particular pond, they were on the small side ! One of many benefits of private ponds and a healthy fishery. Very few other places in VA have I caught them as big. The largest was 1.4 lbs and was 11" long and 3" thick and another that went over 12" ! You can see pics on my website. Thanks !

  • So I'm assuming cricket's are decent bait for bluegills?

  • second only to grasshoppers .... in my humble opinion ! they can't resist ! crickets are easier because you can BUY them instead of catch them and get them 50 at a time from most good bait shops. you'll also need a cricket tube/cage. you shake them out of the small end so you can get em one at a time and hook just behind their head and thread through the body towards the rear and out so the cricket is on the shank and not the bend of the hook. go get em !

  • nice video man, fun to watch

  • Thanks ! ... Will keep making them if people keep watching !

  • the #1 bait is Wax Worms!=)

  • really !!? i have used them and they do catch fish ... but they sure don't jump and kick around like a cricket or better yet ... a grasshopper ! Never thrown out a grasshopper that didn't get eaten ! Can't say the same for a wax or mealworm ! If they work great for you ... that's all that matters ! :) Tight lines !

  • i juss came back from fishing bluegills and i caught about 60-80 bluegills with wax worms=)haha

  • either you a: have a great spot, fished very little. b: hit them at just the right time. or c: they were all tiny

... when they are biting good ... really doesn't matter much what you are using, especially if they are underfished and hungry because a lot of food is gone in these dog days of summer. Whatever ur doing it's working, so I can't knock it ! did u catch any over 12" ? if not ... try grasshoppers or crickets .. i still stand by them as the best bait ... hands down !

  • they were about 6'-10' long...and the spot i goto has alot of bluegills =)

  • nice ... must be a good spot ! private ? you can't do that here on public waters in VA .....

  • nope its not private..open to public...we cant go to private lakes and ponds here in Long Beach, CA

  • well that explains it ! you've got some monster bass there, too with that year round warm climate ... cheater ! >:)

  • #1 bait I've ever used to catch bluegill is dough balls. When I was young I caught enough of them to fill a 5 gallon bucket that way.

  • i have only caught CARP that way ... LOL ! every area is different, i guess. I'll use anything that works ... including chicken livers for big channel cats !

  • I should make a video of it showing how bluegill in this area go absolutely crazy for dough.

  • you should ! what area r u in ? VA here ....

  • theres thislake i go there isnt many fish but when they bite itsa bluegill. any tips on how to pick your baits and what works. i use nightcrawlers but thats it so plez reply because i went fishing today and brought home nothing. there was this one turtloe that wouldnt leave the hook alone. it would look for my bober and alwayss eat the worm. but yea those were the only bites i got.

  • you should check out my squidoo pages. many tips there for different species. there is a link in the info of this vid ... thanks for watching !

  • How far should the bobber / line / bait be from the dock / shore / boat? and what bait besides crickets should I use? Reply soon >.>

  • sorry ! was on vacation ! this all depends on where the drop off is and where the fish are. u can test it out by trying all different depths and distances until one catches a fish and then you hone it in. all kinds of small insects work good, but crickets and grasshoppers are the best. worms and mealworms can work also, but the vast majority of people at public places fish with worms and they get picky , but can't resist a cricket ...

  • if they are there. but if u cast a full cast and fish 10 feet down, where nobody else is ... the worm will prob work. if in boat you should fish no closer then 10 feet from the boat in shallow water, so not to spook the fish. if the water is deep ... u can fish straight down if u like.

  • true.i like they way you fish tho. but you should make a bass fishing or catfishing video.

  • i did ! 3 bass videos and i will do BIG cats this fall (over 40 pounds) ... check em out ! Thanx !

  • wow....blue gills...yay...or shuld i say blue BULLS.i catch bass and catfish and when i do catch blue gill i chop its head off as bait.=]

  • they do make great bait ! ... but when they are over a pound they are as fun as any fish to fight and have a sweet tasting fillet to die for ! thanx 4 watching !

  • i went to a lake in cali today and caght a 15 ouce fatty bull gill

  • nice ! one of these days someone will post a picture ! >:)

  • wat state do u live in?

  • in Virginia !

  • heres a ttip so u can catch grasshoppers 4 bait:Acording to Field and Stream u can throw a fuzzy blanket in tall grass then scare the hoppers on to the blanket....and their legs will get stuck on the blanket.

  • can't say i wold have ever thought of that ! my kids would love it .. i may have to try it ! altho ... i am pretty quick and adept at catchin em the old fashioned way ! ... and free lining is a good way to fish many baits ... depends on the situation at hand. nice comments !

  • i caught 7 small bass and a dozen redears this morning using the freelining technique with jumbo redworms

  • good job ! one thing about the bobber technique, is that when you figure out where the real big ones are in the water column, you can return it to that exact same spot every time. sometimes can eliminate being bothered by some of the little ones !

  • yeah the bluegill in my friends pond school up in schools of 12,and circle the the pond several times before heading to a drop off in the middle of his pond,2morrow i`m going fishin in a public pond with my grandpa(there r big 10" bluegill in there with some 5 lb. channel cats.

  • just think ... you could cast clear out to the middle of the pond ... and suspend bait at 6 or 8 feet ! ... catch big ones all day long ... good luck !

  • try goin freestyle(no sinker or replace with swivel, then use a cricket or small worm on a small hook)It`s a great rig with clearwater

  • I love catching bullgills in rhode island, and the best part is, is that they bite all day! great video!

    Chaz

  • nice vid i went fishing on shore today and i caught 12 blue gills i was using knight crawlser they call them hear but there just very big worms that i rip in half and i used size 4 or 6 eagle hooks

    joee

  • Nothing fights like a sunfish. Looks like nice calm water there. Congrats on using the scale, now some of these people can see that they are not catching 5 pound sunfish. Next time your out gilling, try chicken skin for bait. A one inch strip will stay on your hook all morning. Store them in small container with salt water in the fridge. Works for me. ;-)

  • BRAVO ! ... just keeping it reel ! I will def try the chicken skin thing .... whole lot cheaper and a lot less bait hooking ! Thanks for the info and for watching ! Tight lines !

  • ur vids rock dude keep up the good wok

  • thanks guys !!! hopefully they will keep improving with practice. more to come as soon as i get a chance ... the moon is getting good !

  • i think you have the same exact rod & reel as me.

  • that is quite possible ! i've got over 30 of em !

  • them some nice bull gills hahah 5*****

  • wat is that song called at the begining?? please??

    and nice cathing dude

  • my fav band ... Sublime - Doing Time (summertime) . ska/punk/funk/reggae/hip-hop fusion ! check it out ... the video is nice, but they won't let me post it here !

  • hell yeah dude Sublime is the best band ever bro!

  • yeah man..i catch all the time like that with size 8 hooks n a ultra light pen fishing rod ...they r awesome n fun 2 catch..

  • i caught a 2 pound spawning bluegill today it was badass
