  • Yes. He sang the Paul McCartney [Dirk McQuickly] parts in the Rutles [Beatles spoof film and albums

  • Great version,but a little too fast.

    He sounds like Paul.

  • was linked to this through Patto vids.Pretty amazing;spot on vocals and musicianship....Alas,all of the great bands and musicians who never got their due recognition.....

  • how i love this band!! two days ago i've been playing with my band at a festival along with Colosseum. Mr. Clark is stills amazing, a voice like an angel, a bass playing like a devil! Thanks guys for all you've done.

  • Ironic that Ollie Halsall did a Beatle song and then parodied The Beatles with The Rutles.

  • Yeah this is kind of jive by hearing the album over the live footage.

  • Ciao, ragazzi. Ho 54 anni vivo a Roma...Io a quel concerto c'ero!!!!! Se non sbaglio era il 1972 e si tenne al Brancaccio. Mitica davvero la versione di P.W. sentita dal vivo.

  • Yeah! The famous white Gibson SG custom!

  • If you get the Tempest collection you can hear Ollie playing live with Allan Holdsworth when he was still in the band. At times you can hardly tell them apart. Don't judge him from this clip.

  • There are a lot of very stupid comments on this thread. Alas, this is not a very good quality vid (but historically interesting - thanks whoever posted it...) and it might mislead the ignorant. Tempest was never a covers band, I think this was the only cover they did. Alas the music industry is a fickle place. Many people, especially on youtube, seem to think famous = best. This band is a really good example of how some of the very best in their league can still, alas, remain relatively obscure.

  • no fripp

  • I heard them playing that live 3 times; at The Reading Pop Festival, at Reading University Student Union and at The Marquee in London.

Believe you me it was quite an unforgettable experience; Ollie is the best guitarist I have ever seen on stage -and I saw many!

  • Clip cuts off before Halsall really tears it. Tempest wasn't by any stretch a "cover" band. Bondurango, doesn't seem like your ignorance is all that blissful... checking out Halsall's playing on Money Bag, (1st Patto record) might help you pull your head out of your ass. Will work for sure if you got any brains in there.

  • yeah if you knew about tempest or colosseum you wouldnt be saying that. george is turning over at your comment buddy

  • To bondurango

Sheer ignorance, Ollie is probably amongst the 3 or 4 top rock guitarists ever; J. Hendrix, then Ollie, Terry Kath, Jimmy Page, perhaps 1 more but that is it.

go on google, Tape Hiseman tempest, then myface, then listen to 'Dance to my tune'.

    The best guitar solo ever!

  • then go listen to something else

  • You don't like my comment, then go read something else. Who forced you to read it? Who put the gun to your head to make a reply, dickwipe?

  • Thanks Moose. The site has been in my favourites for a while. Will have another look !

  • At one time ollie and allan were in Tempest at the same time. There must be some BBC archive stuff available with Pete Drummond compering.

  • Yes. It's available on the Tempest anthology CD 'Under The Blossom'. See the Ollie Halsall Archive site i.e 'olliehalsall' [all one word] plus the usual UK suffix [this is all rather silly but I think YT blocks urls. I'm sure you can work it out] :o)

  • Though it's not documented there's a good chance Halsall's playing style had an influence on Holdsworth. He was really the only player utilizing that technique before it become popular with anybody.

  • Allan has acknowledged Ollie's influence on a number of occassions e.g. go to Satriani\Holdsworth interview on GTR Web Forum [this won't let me include address - Google > GTR Web Forum Holdsworth - contact me if you can't find it]

  • not at all, Halsall replaced Allan Holdsworth, who left for Soft Machine to record "Bundles"

  • Jon Hiseman , probably the most underrated drummer living today , and most certainly one of the greatest . He's up there with Bonham , Rich , Palmer and whoever else makes the top five . Great video ! Awesome stuff . Well impressed . I'm gonna favorite the fucker .

  • that guy gave me a lesson

  • Allan Holdsworth replaced Halsall

  • No, the other way round

  • Yes you are right. How is the "Living in fear" album? I have been looking to hear that for over 20 years. I got the first one in the mid 80s.

  • Sorry about the delay! Living in Fear is superb - virtually a Halsall solo album [includes the track they are miming to here]. Get you a copy if you want

  • Looks like Alan's guitar, or other way around? The one he toured the US with in 75.

  • Thanks Moose

  • Apart from Hiseman and Halsall who else is in the band?

  • just Marke Clarke on bass

  • jon hiseman, the master.

  • Drums better than Ringo.
