At 5:11, the '3D multi-modality scanner' sent in to collect data, created such intense magnetic fields ...that it took the stethoscope being worn by the avatar shown, and KILLED her with it. Remember: ALWAYS take off metal items before being CAT scanned!! hehe
Reality 101: No hospital system will be implemented as an robotics only experience, so it should be realized this is just a demo piece. Second, robotics are an augmentation to standard care, not a replacement for what already exists. Third, as this piece points out, the majority of change will be in organization, tracking, logistics and ACCOUNTABILITY!... rather than 'droidish' robotic surgery.
@slipperypete619 Not sure what u meant by this being wrong. Im not sure about having a robot operate on me either, but I can see it the wave of the future. If u have the recent Times Magazine DEC 13th 2010 there's an article on Surgery & the Rise of the Robots. It's an interesting article & brought me back to when I use to assemble Electronic devices under microscope. It wasn't that hard. Good hand & eye coordination a must. And patience.
@slipperypete619 your actually correct on that I think. Ive seen recent articles on robotic surgery ect & Im sure most is safe but the human connection of touch & emotion is lost in a way for healing. I don't think if I was seriously ill but alert my mind would rather have a human being present than a Video display w a person talking to me. I'd love someone to come in my room open my blinds touch my hand & smile to my face.
@PROFILESophiaYates I just wanted to point out that hackers are such a problem now a days that this might not be such a good idea

I gotta go back to Escondido to see Palomar West. Funny it opens when I graduate...
I think I'm too attached to old Palomar though, I know that place inside and out.

Utilizing SL for this purpose - followed by machinima - is surely the future of most major constructions. It's a no-brainer, really. Good job!
