@Takes1Bullet you can half press the shutter button to make it focus. best thing is to just keep practicing and try to get better at manual focus. there have been plenty of time where i would auto focus and the the subject moves out again and the video gets messed up cause of the time it takes to auto focus.
@saschavs Somewhere around 12 minutes yeah, that's because SD cards can only hold files up to 4Gb in size each, so the recording stops and you have to start again. Its not important unless you record a lot of 12 minute shots
Can anyone help me, basically i record in jpeg and when it come to viewing them on the computer they dont work and i have to convert the file and the quality is reduced sooo much. i also tryed with RAW and it was even worse, i got 2 files for one video and even if i converted they didnt work. i use the eos programme for the downloading. how do i get 1080p? on the computer with easy downloading from the sd card?
@ra81haxa you just turn the dial and it changes the shutter speed. then press the av button and turn the dial to change the aperture. frame rate is something you cannot change while filming.
I Have question and it's very important for me i want buy the canon EOS 550 D .you have nice experiences about this camera and other things . is it ok if i buy memory Delkin SD PRO 32GB 150X class 8 and 22MB/s for this camera for full HD recording movie . because just is it in my country . please answer about this message . i love this camera and i want use of every thing of this camera and i don't know the Delkin SD PRO 32GB is it true memory and fine memory for recording full HD video ?
Would you recommend this camera to film dancing clips? How hard is it to use to shoot a person moving (dancing) ,does it do a good job with the focus there? Can you recommend me a lens to go with the camera? Main purpose to shoot videos and not to make pictures.
@HousedanceTanL If my main purpose was to shoot video I would look at something from the Canon camcorder range or maybe the Panasonic TM range. This will do a good job, but smooth zooming is not its thing.
Go with the sony? sony has to much noise in there stuff, my old cybershot DCF 828 had noise and purple fringing, and the Sony Alphas where i nearly got the 550, no vid but to much noise, typical sony noise..... so i when for a better one Canon Eos 550D! not as much noise at high ISO than Sony A550 :) oh had a Fuji HS10, good low light but stuffed production model as i took mine back like a million other peoples...
I really love this camera, the only detail for the video aplications is that they mised to include an earphone jack, cause when you are using an external mic, you cant know if the mic is functioning or not, I belive that´s the worst detail of the 550D, the rest is amazing, is practically a 7D in a light body. Thanks for the whole review
can you please explain further... the option for earphone jack?... i'm a newbie and been thinking of getting one... thanks for your videos... helping me a lot!
Which lens did you use? I saw it is possible to zoom video with autofocus? How does it work on EOS? I have Powershot SX1 IS and would like to buy DSLR, but I also like taking videos (and use zoom options? Is it possible with Canon 18-200 lens?
Just to clarify, I don't use a tripod as this is meant to show the video performance of the average user. Most people will be out taking photos handheld and then see a video opportunity, so take that handheld also. I could have taken a tripod and produced something awe inspiring, but that would not be a fair representation of performance.
@davomrmac Dave, I have a question, what´s better a nikon p90 or a sony alpha 230, take in mind that im a begginer in photography and i want something to start with.
Dave, what's the name of the song??
aronchas 4 days ago
If you are showing 1080p footage in a 720p youtube video then it's not really a fair representation of the true quality of the video!

CrispinHawkins 11 months ago
@Takes1Bullet the Nikon's auto focus is also a but fast moving and not always accurate. best to go with the canon.
Olliedfox 6 months ago
Great quality..but I notice with these DLSR you cant really pan as fast like you can with a typical video camera..
shutterthree 1 year ago
@shutterthree Yes, true.
davomrmac 1 year ago
hi @shutterthree is because the DSLR use a CMOS censor the camcorders use a CCD check the CMOS vs CCD

Hi! I really want to buy this camera for the awesome quality. But I heard that there is a 12 minute time limit on Full HD videos? Is this true?

What's the point in uploading this in 720p when the camera can film in full HD?
Steve181 1 year ago
@Steve181 I only upload here in 720P. There is full size photos and some 1080 videos from some of my camera tests on my SmugMug gallery.
davomrmac 1 year ago
@Steve181 Takes hours to upload 1080p ;)
CYNFELYN23 1 year ago
@Steve181 Takes less size.
Also higher framerate for slow motion clips.

Thanks

@Laevi1337 Perhaps @ra81haxa you are referring to Frames Per Second?

@ra81haxa you just turn the dial and it changes the shutter speed. then press the av button and turn the dial to change the aperture. frame rate is something you cannot change while filming.

can't you record in 1080p HD with the EOS 550D?
If so, why would you upload this in 720...?

@Flee4me This was a demonstration of the 720 format that most people use on YouTube.

I used both the 18-55 IS and 70-300 IS, both can zoom whilst recording, though the zoom is not smooth. They both AF too whilst recording.
