  • swastika?

  • best song ever!

  • PUNKS NOT DEAD I NO

  • 0:25 How awesome does that crowd look?! P'haps it's just me, but I'd *love* to be there...

  • Well said howlinggoat!!

    "Angsty spoiled americans ruined punk."

I was there in Belfast when these guys were at it - i was doing the same thing.... and i'll be at Antwerp next week playing guitar with Terry Hooley... the godfather of punk rock in Belfast.

Punk was perfectly suited to Belfast as the 'real' punk songs are about real pain. Not teen angst!

  • This is a pile of balls

  • Best band to come out of Ireland , apart from Thin Lizzy !!

  • What is Alternative...like Germany or England to give up their own culture ?

  • whilst I agree wiv you, biggsy192, could you not say that punk rock is no longer relevant? Of course, many, since 1979 have been decriing (sic?) the death of punk rock.

Incidently, over ten yrs ago, me and my lads were in Berkeley, CA and at the Gilman; We was not welcome cuz my mate vomited across the st. They told us to go. How very punk rock of them. And, if you don't know, Green Day started at the Gillman. One to ponder (or not.)

  • I don't give a fuck if you like Green Day either....

  • Green Day is awesome, I could give a fuck if you don't like it, I'm still going to listen to it no matter what the fuck anyone thinks.

Haha, Green Day will still be popular no matter what you whinging cunts say!

  • They're popular because teenage girls think Billie-Joe is, "like soooo cute".

    Angsty spoiled americans ruined punk.

  • @howlinggoat Angsty spoiled americans ruined punk.....

    Well said!

  • @ludwigsongs yeah tell that to the clash and the sex pistols who were all in awe of the ramones.... punk in the UK was just as much spoiled uppity brats as its ever been in the states so who cares.

  • @tengobotas thats right who gives a fuck good and bad we cant av it all lets get pissed and have a laff

  • enjoy being surrounded by 13 year old fan girls at their concerts.

  • greenday ,fuck do people still listen to them , there u2 with eyeliner

  • is this no the band hanx

  • Is there a version of this song on The Tube where Jake doesn't lose his voice? I can't find one.

  • never said all yanks listen to greenday-all i said is that lad dont know what he's goin on about.

  • cant believe this greenday lad. Greenday saved punk? do you have fuckin sawdust in ya head pal? punk on this side of the pond is pretty different to how USA think punk should be, sound like, act, live etc. FUCk ur pop shite, THIS is punk.

  • I'm from the USA and I can certainly tell you don't get the wrong idea about us yank's we don't all listen to Green Day or Fall out boy.

  • Actually our punk tends to bo faster and more agressive...

  • yeah what do ya call black flag ssd germs fear gang green zero boys

  • hhhmmm, lemme think, oh yeah, I call them all faster, harder, better Punk from the US!

  • yeah uk punk is good but american punk kicks so much ass

  • um, nahh, it really doesnt m8, ur forgetting the likes ov the pistols, the clash ect......

  • my dad knows jake

  • It was all about sellouts.

You could say you were in a punk band in '77and all of that fame and fortune didn't matter, but that was a load of shite. Course it fucking mattered. It was all that mattered to anyone who wasn't a liar or in a state of denial.

These guys are a standard against which other bands can be judged.

  • Johnny Rotten resides in Beverley Hills. Someone should've told him punk is no consumer scheme.

  • ahmen to that

  • grab it change it its yours,,,,,,,,,,,, slf fuckin rocked. belfast didnt know what hit it. more powerful than the provos and brits combined

  • Blablabla, guys... What's more important the music, or the labels ? If I like a band, I don't care if this band is mainstream or not, I can't pretend I don't like just because everybody likes it or because they're on Warner or EMI. It's music, not a religion.

  • I listen to lower class brats and like the likes.. They are not one of the bands that pulled it off. YOu could see from the beginning they were trying too hard - with their name..

They talk about KID OF THE STREETS etc.. Thats been done a million times. NOt very original.. and they follow they typical leather jacket, hat , california punk look.(there from texas i know) Theyre part of the punk trend. now the culture

  • pretty green dayish

  • He said that before recording London Calling, after which clash would become the world biggest rock band for the moment. Bands like those are keeping punk alive and setting new levels..

    Open your eyes

  • i gotta agree with colindanzig there im afriad, hes rite. big corperate bands like green day is what punk has always been against, its not about being popular. what u think??

  • John Lydon " I gotta admit, i prefer those twat bands like Green Day better, coz at least they are not doing the same thing we did 30 years ago"

  • gd, played punk music when it was nothing close to popular..dont get me wrong, i love bands like Charged GBH and DK.. but green day revived the whole scene,, and they should at least be credited for that fact.

  • green day did nothing for punk. green day are what punk has been against from day one..

    open your eyes

  • Green Day played punk in a time where punk was nothing close to popular.. when punk was dying. they only did what they did becasue they loved it and were dedicated to what they did.. they were suburban brats who probly had no future. when they went big everyone failed to see the point how they revived punk and just criticised them for selling out

  • punk doesnt have to be popular...your missing the point...punk isnt cool or trendy or popular...it never has been and never will be...it isnt about those things...its a movement against those things...and green day are nothing but a trendy pop band...

  • I know punk isnt popular.. punk was music for outcasts who didnt give damn about what others thought. I know its turned more of a trend now. either who looks more like avril lavigne or even the hardcorepunks who only care about whos got the most studs or best mohawk

  • Ur sooo Rite. Name another punk band from the late 80's/ early 90's.

  • hah you want me to name punk bands? you must think im a little poser..

    discharge

    operation ivy

    hatebreed/turbonegro

    angelic upstarts

    lil bowwowwow

    sham69..

ill name as many as u want mate

  • who cares? really who cares?

  • i stand corrected

  • mudhoney dinosaur jr sonic youth mudhoney beat happening FUGAZI Butthole Surfers Negitivland TAD Big Black Rapeman Jesus Lizard Meat Puppets Minutemen Black Flag. just to name a few

  • aside from black flag, all of those bands are post punk shite.

  • Punk was a culture started to rebel against boredom and against authority. Punk has changed a lot over the years. If it stayed the same it would become the same thing it started to be against-boredom.

Joe Strummer-"It gets boring after a while, playing the same clubs, same crowd. We wanna do something big and different "

  • An underground movement cant last forever.. There is one thing it always needs-money. If it werent for mainstream bands like greenday/clash etc.. punk wouldnt survive the first 5 years.. So no matter how hardcore you are. you gotta credit em a bit

  • Seriously man. Ur jus against green day cus they managed to breakthru! They're Kerplunk and dookie albums were awesome!!!! I luv SLF (from ulster myself) but Green day fuckin rock 2

  • as i said before punk is a lifestyle not just how a band sounds, it is their mindset, and their need to be apart from the norm

bands like crass, GBH, dead kennedys for me really gave me and many poeple a sub-culture in which they could express things.

  • I know what you mean.. But you really dont understand how green day saved punk.after that hardcore scene in the 80s,punk was dying, clubs were closings coz there was no funding because noone knew about it..no new bands were hardly forming

  • no it wasn't. it was just going back underground where it belongs. green day did nothing but something the kids thought were punk on mtv!

  • Haha.. it wasnt going underground you retard. After the 80s when hardcore punk was getting boring. No new kids were getting into punk-no new bands started forming-no new clubs were opening. If you dont understand that.. you are simply an idiot.. They were hardly on MTV before American Idiot.. The Clash were the biggest after london calling, dint make em less punk.. bands like these are setting new standards for punk and kepn it alive

  • no new bands started?! get your head outta your fucking ass! the clash were fucking sellouts! is that all you have to say? bands like this are NOT setting new standards for punk and keeping it alive. punk doesn't need to new standards dumbshit! bands that are keeping it alive are the REAL punk bands still going and if you wanna newer bands the Lower Class Brats, Social Dropouts, The Republic Rats, The Tactics, Thick as Thieves! Fuck your shit!

  • Look riotsound.. Punk is not something that can be done much.. There were very few bands who pulled it off.

''Punks killed punk. WE could tell we were starting something new-punk which was about being an individual. But after few months they all conformed into the mohawk, leather jacket look'' Rotten

  • punk has always partially been about being an individual. you, a lover a green day and whatever shit, is telling me...that punk can not be pulled off a lot? take a look a fucking around. you're looking at the wrong place obviously. obviously.

  • '' Punks killed punk. I could tell we were starting something new, but after a few months they were all dressing like us. So where is all the individuality ''

John Lydon.. the bands are pretty much like that. They write the word PUNK in every song. Theyre almost showing off. Having leather jackets and mohawk doesnt make em punk it makes em conformists

  • If you think they are pop-

Check out some of their songs-

    Take Back

    Platypus( i hate you)

    Longview

    Welcome To PARAdise

    Hitchin A Ride

    loads more..

Then get back to me and tell me what you think

  • i do like the early green-day stuff before they became main-stream i.e american idiot. After that they seemed to turn out the same rubbish every month or so.

    good musicians accepted

    but nazi punks yes

punk is supposed to be different, the whole point of punk was for people that felt detatched from society and from the music "scene" at the time, because of bands like green day, blink 182 punk is now in the main-stream.

  • "i do like the early green-day stuff before they became main-stream", lol that's so funny. Me, I used to like Britney Spears before she became mainstream. When she was selling only 10 millions of records and not 20 millions like nowadays.

  • bEST Stiff Little FIngers song.

MM excuse me.. green day is more punk in terms of music and also the lifestyle than stiffs.

They just originated from the first punk scene in the uk - stiffs. Thats why they are considered one of the biggest punk bands.

But they have more"pop" in their music than green day

  • absolute rubbish, green day are just another big name in the capitalistic music industry that we have today. there not at all original and there not punk. punk is a lifestyle not just how you sound

  • It was really easy for bands like stiff fingers to get into the punk scene. Because in the 70s punk was like the "cool" thing..

Green day were in the punk scene.. when any type of rock music was not liked.. And they are original.. Not many bands before them talked about how pathetic their lives are made fun of it as well..

  • That's not true, many bands had reached a certain range of audience by that time, bad religion for example, and many others grew at the same time. They were nothing special, and even the other bands that were growing with them and of course bad religion talked abou more interesting things (and thought provoking) than "how pathetic their lives were" - and how they did nothing to change it by the way

and say thanks and fuck you to them for making punk rock absolute and simple cheesy pop

  • Yes.. The californian invasion of melodical punk (bad religion/green day/rancid) saved the punk culture..

And green day has music that would scare the pants of popstars.. Its only during American Idiot they took a turn where their music was slow very emotional music.. It was very disappointing i admit

  • You are really carrying it in your name.....

  • An idiot and very proud :)

  • o.k., o.k. I really like Green Day also, but Stiff Little Fingers Pop???????

  • No i never said stiffs were pop! Stiffs were one of hte biggest first wave punk bands! I just said they use more pop feautures than green day ( like vocal harmoies and stuff)

    :)

  • Henry Cluney, tut fuckin tut!!!!!!
