  • @Sepero1 Thank you!

  • There is a book by Calvin C Bishop called "Slide Rule: How To Use It" which details this technique (but not nearly as clearly as you have). Bishop calls it locating the SPAN of the number of digits making up a whole number.

I wish there were more videos like this on YouTube...slide rules are too darn cool to allow them fade into history without this knowledge being passed on. Good on you sir for sharing this!! :-D

  • @clehman67 Thank you very much - that's very kind of you! I shall have to look out Bishop's book as I'm still very much a learner myself, and a terrible mathematician!

  • @darkdave25 The book is now in the public domain and can found in electronic version at sliderulemuseum _dot_ com _slash_ Manuals _slash_ M28_SlideRuleHowToUseIt_Bishop.pdf. I'm not much of a mathematician either, but it fascinates me to no end that we (in the U.S.) built the Hoover Dam, the Empire State Building and put men into space with tools like this.

  • This came up in my "Recommended" section, I almost cheered when you got the right answer. I miss my slide-rule now

  • @salerio61 Thank you very much! Your comment has just made my day!

  • Nicely done. Your little Faber-Castell slide rule looks suspiciously like my pocket Aristo, by the way. Only a few of the gauge marks and the location of the brand name are different.

  • @jsm666 Ah really? Bit of re-branding going on possibly. Thanks for the comment

  • No comments yet? This video is great! Thanks for the brain stretcher.

  • @sibco96 Thank you very much!
