  • I do a lot of restorations on garden machinery and a sandblaster will save me a hell of a lot of time, can you do sandblasting with a 3hp 13cfm compressor?

  • @thealed29 , you can with the sadnblasters from blastitclean .co. uk - that size compressor will power those sandblasters.

  • a question!

when you sandblasting and the metal recovery the brilliant colour if you paint the piece of metal rust appears again?

  • @MElekiaZ , if you apply paint quickly rust should not come back

  • love sansblasting

  • very cool

  • Will this thing take the paint off of my rims?

  • @brian8793 - of course it will!

  • @acegrit Do you think one of these 10 or 20 gallon "portable" sandblasters would too? I just want to get something for as cheap as possible that will take all of the paint and clear coat off of my rims.

Obviously there are other things I would use it for, eventually, but that is the project I'm workin on now.

  • @brian8793 , quite honestly I don't. the sandblasters you mention are made in china (don't be fooled by european/american labels). they are a cheap item & they do what a cheap item can do - not a lot!

  • @acegrit What do you think would be the best size air compressor (gallons/psi/gas or electric) to get for my house? I would like to be able to easily use an impact wrench and sand blaster for at least an hour.

These will be my last questions. Thanks a lot.

  • @brian8793 @brian8793 I don't know where you live but can only give advice as per UK users, in which case if you have a lot of sandblasting to do & using ordinary household elctricity, a 14-15cfm (9-10cfm FAD) compressor would give best results.

the sandblaster will also work with smaller compressors & we can also supply a 2.5mm nozzle for those who have smaller compressors - there is a chart on the the website blastitclean.co.uk on the "air requirement " page.

  • that's pretty damned amazing! makes me wanna get a sandblaster really bad to remove the rust from some car parts. any recommendations on sandblasters - brand psi etc?

  • this demo done with ACE gritblaster - try blastitclean.co.uk

this sandblaster is manufactured in UK

  • how come sandblasting leaves a grey finish? i thought if you sand sand off rust you will get to bare metal

  • @jaggass sand blasted metal DOES look bright grey - that IS the colour of bare metal - what do you think bare metal should look like?

  • @acegrit silverish

  • @jaggass Depends on the metal example brass wont be a gray finish.

  • @Koolor1556 that's true, I should have qualified my answer by saying that sandblaster STEEL looks bright grey.

  • Awesome, can't wait to sandblast my old caddy

wayofthemaster Is a great site, no I'm not spam

  • @sluggo06 knock it off.

  • It won't do anything to you if you wear a quality 3M mask and if you don't do it for a living. Even then, getting silicosis is fairly rare.

  • Hah, looks like you have no shortage of sand where you are. Coating the tools with clear spraypaint helps to keep that from happening.

  • That can't protect it for 30+ years.

  • Not if you leave it outside all the time, but yes it can otherwise. As long as the paint film is intact, it's not going to rust.

  • @brewerfan1993 duh u have to paint it or powder coat it im14 years old and know this its not rocket science

  • which is why i wear a profffestional resperator i dunno how much black beaty costs but sand is 4 bux a bag and 2 me thats worth it if i had 2 get a fresh air resperator 2 use while doing it im sure u could get sand even cheaper if ya really wanted 2 tho

  • where do you buy the media from, i looked around but only saw walnut shells and glass beads?

  • Ask around for a product called Black Beuaty. It comes in different grits,is an all around 0 on the health, safety diamond.

  • i can supply black beauty at a great price

  • u can just use sand im pretty sure but make sure its dry

  • Sand has SILICA..your lungs will not be happy..black beauty is ok JC

  • black beauty has silica.... whether its 1% or 5%, the same amount will make it to your lungs either way.

  • OOOPS!!! I bought a pressure blaster and built a booth to contain the media. but ive been using mortor sand from "Home Depot." I guess I should find a new media, or upgrade my mask.

  • Wow ! that doesnt look real, its like paint its that effective. cool

  • Good work buddy

Also thanks alot for your help with the other viewers!

    Cheers again

  • what's abrasive you use?. can it be simply mortar sand?

  • simple rule is any grit below 0.8mm works. the grit in this video is copperslag which is like a black sand. using silica sand for sandblasting is dangerous to health if breathed in. mortar sand is likely to contain silica, and also little stones larger than 0.8mm so would only work is sieved, and health consideration come into play. there are various expendable grits available on the market which are low in free silica (for example copperslag, garnet, SC sand substitute) - hope this helps

  • thanks but the problem is that i live in mexico.someone else; what equipment i need?

  • irsnokaori: What will the work be? What is the size of the workpiece? What is it made of? What surrounds the work (is it indoors)? How much work is there (one time only or many times)? How much money will you spend?

  • holy shit. i didnt know that you could do that. you mean that there is actually good metal underneath rusty objects???

  • that's right... If you remove the rust, it looks/is basically like new underneath. If you don't seal/paint it right away though, it will start to get rusty again.

  • FF2006: Unless the work is rusted through, there's unrusted metal underneath. Whether it is "good" or not is up to you; there may be deep pits or other defects. The blasting roughens the surface, which may require finishing before painting.

For small work, try soaking in vinegar (5% acetic acid) after degreasing and wire brushing. It will eat away the rust, leaving a sooty black that can be washed off with soap, etc. Don't use on shiny plated work; it eats the plating, too!

  • It is so good it does look like it does'nt it? but as the author of the video, I can guarantee that this is NOT silver paint, - what is being spryed here is grit/sand at high pressure which removes the rust that yu see on the piece leaving a clean bright finish which is what steel looks like when it is blasted.

  • Where's the dust?

  • if you look at the video, you can see dark dust from time to time, there is not a big cloud of dust because the nozzle is fairly small, but it is there, the grit used is coppeslag which is a black grit.

  • Is that like black beauty, if you know what that is?

  • Am I the only one who thinks this looks too much like silver spray paint to be real...???

  • Hey mate, I've been thinking about getting a sandblaster setup for a while now, 2.5hp, 8.2CFM, 115psi max, belt driven. Would that be suited to cleaning up car parts? Like engine blocks, cast iron manifolds etc. What would be the best media for such things? Thanks for your help in advance!

  • Excuse me for my ignorance on the subject but I don´t understand that about "sand" blasting, what kind of sand does this use, can you give me substantial information? Thanx!

  • My Dad's a Blaster. And i can give you a bit. Its a high pressure hose which shoots Sand or ( Grit) Garnit, And Metal at very high PSI. Its Fairly easy and im hoping to get into the buisnes soon. Hope that helped.

  • to add to what you said what it does is the high pressure from the air compressor goes through a venturi which makes low atmospheric pressure and sucks the sand through the hose and combines with the air in the blasting gun. There are many different types of media that you can use to shoot out the gun.

  • just a correction to fishhunter's comment, what is described in your posting is how a suction system workds (the type which looks a bit like a paint spray gun) the video is a pressure system where tha air & grit are inside an airtight pot and the lot pressurised and sprayed through hose & nozzle - this is a much more efficient use of pressure available & is therefore much more powerfull for the same amount of pressure as a suction system.

  • wasn't really paying attention to the gun sorry about that.

  • well, if you've got access to nearly unlimited supplies of sand...

  • haha i could do this all day. good sense of satisfaction

    d(-_-)b

  • It works so well it almost looks like your painitng it silver...FANTASTIC!!!

  • Nicely done. Just a little smile appeared seeing the vid's title 'heavy rust' :-)

When i have a good rusty piece to blast i shall show what is heavy rust ;-))

Hey take care when u have more vids please show them, i find it very interesting!

  • man thats a nice setup.

  • looks like a quality product....what kind of pressure do you have to use with it, what kind of blasting media?

  • Sorry for late reply - I just saw your comment!, this demo is done @80psi with a 3HP compessor (15cfm)- the blast media used he was fine copperslag.

  • nice job
