You are right that the exposure calculation is not linked between the cameras. However as the lenses are so close and capture nearly the same content, aperture and shutter speed is almost always identical.

looks like this camera stil uses light meter diodes so it should be possible to use only one of the diodes for both cameras. (newer compact digicams use the ccd sensor for light metring)
