@Inityx This version does have many features the first didn't, but what captivated players in the original Myst was the atmosphere, an atmosphere that can only be realized in that old-school pre-rendered environment
So, is that suposed to be Anna narrating? It cirtainly can't be Yeesha. She isn't even born until Exile! Anna DID write the book to Myst so it makes sense in that matter but she wasn't exactly the kind to talk all mysterious-like like that. Meh. I think I'm over-thinking this.
They need to make something like this for Riven now! I love that game how it is but making it in the free-movement format would open up music vid/fan trailer opportunities!

Come to think about it, realMyst came out at a time when 3d graphics weren't that great. It seems pretty dated now but still has a little charm to it and seems to be revolutionary back in 2000. Unfortunately, computers coulnd't handle its graphics and it never had enough publicity. It still remains one of my favorite games along with Uru and Half Life 2, all of which seem to share the same style of graphics.
@shadyparadox the worlds are creepy! In the mechanical age there's literally a rotting corpse in a wooden box. Hell and a torture chamber now that I think of it!
hear this folks: There is a mod for Half-Life called "Black Mesa Source" coming out this year, and its about changing the old GoldSource version of HL1 into exactly like HL2, with a few changes too. Ring a bell here?
well, the graphics weren't as advanced as URU back then, it was made in 2000! I mean, I played it on that sick Gametap server because the game's so rare these days, and noticed that water's dull-you don't see anything underwater from the surface, and the waves are cyclical. Also, though its hard to notice, Channelwood Age was the ONLY one in the game that never got weather patterns at all, just a dull white background. No night, no day, XIP! (you do see a frog on the walkways though)
it's a very fast moment, like a cameo of sorts. You see it after heading down the lower wooden catwalks in Channelwood heading towards the windmill. eventually, when you see one of the valves and hear an extra sound, look closely too the left, and notice something brown, then a splash of water.
It's funny because the original Myst was just like a bunch of pictures of this same 3D world. In realMyst it's like you can actually wander around in the world rather than see pictures of it.
This trailer has to be one of my favorites. I love how the voice of Catherine goes with the fly throughs so perfectly. It all has a sort of grandness to it.
I quit Gametap because all of the games I found there had at least one glitch. Like, a pinball game crashed in the middle of a bonus level, preventing me from winning. For that, I realized that Gametap wasn't a good supporter for URU Live and shut it down, so I boycotted them for good! At least I still have my German pen pal.

One more thing: I planned to create a REAL version of Myst Island as a resort off the coast of Washington state, sort of like a gift to Rand Miller, and also make a computer mod for Half-Life 2 where the same stormy Island is infested with actual horror-movie zombies and headcrabs, Gordon Freeman must destroy them but the coolest thing is that G-man opens his briefcase and uses a Linking Book to teleport, and you can look inside what he left! :O I call it, "MISSED OPPORTUNITY"
WARNING! Gametap's RealMyst is covered with bugs. I figured that out when I first completed it. Bugs are: Atrus' Rime Journal has a repeated 2 pages, windows in Sirrus' Channel wood house are fogged if door is manually closed, cover and pages of library books are lightly scrambled, lights go out in Selenitic book chamber when Myst book is picked up, and continuing a saved game deletes the Riven picture on Rime. Does that missing necklace in Sirrus' Stoneship dresser count as a bug?
I can't blame Cyan-but want to-for making a flat texture on trees, poor undulation for water, or lack of weather patterns in Channelwood Age. Haven't you guys noticed?

And because they took away MOUL (myst online URU Live) and a bunch of other good games. the ones they left were crawling with computer bugs. Even their version or realMYST has bugs! Like loading a saved game deletes the riven picture at the end. That's why I ordered a CD copy of it for PC online instead. although graphics can't be as good, it still works perfectly.
I played MYST one when I was a kid, using walkthroughs. I haven't been able to play it again couse the damn computer won't run it, but now I can becouse I just got a ancient laptop. Didn't know about any sequels though. might try them in near future.

I grew up with myst + riven. They are good games of logic that helped build some important problem solving skills. Like a modern storybook for me, you know?
I did the exact same thing! My dad showed me Myst when I was about 3, and I got to play it in 6th grade. The whole series really changed my way of thinking and therefore my life =)

That is Catherine's voice, she is the Wife to Atrus,Mother of Sirrus, Achenar, and later on Yeesha. She is not the one that "Writes Dreams", it is Atrus who creates "AgeBooks"
Actually, Katherine DOES write dreams, if you think about it. She is the one who wrote Serenia from Myst IV, the land of floating rocks, spirit guides, and memory chambers. Atrus always said that Katherine's ages were bizzare.
I thought Atrus wrote Spire, not Katherine (the floating rock place) and Yeesha, in Myst IV is still only learning "The Art" it is impossible that this is her, I doubt Cyan even knew Yeesha would be in the family, they just made it up. And I havent seen memory chambers or spirit guides, which one are they in? IV?

Catherine and her brothers are the only understanding ones. Atrus is too devoted to his science smarts to believe in magical places like Serenia. (latter isn't original, like in the first Jimmy-Timmy crossover, he thought the faries were computer programs.)
Cattherine doesn't write many but she does write some if you look closely in Myst IV, she can write in the D'ni language which is the language of The Art
I remember when this trailer first came out, I watched it so many times. Great game! I wish Cyan were still making big titles like this.

doesn't work, Windows Desktop manager has to be shut down for realMyst to run and vista doesn't like that so it forces the game to CTD

It's not Vista's fault that RealMyst doesn't work. The game has a bug. Search for "realmyst jehon" and you'll find an unofficial fix.

I played MYST one when I was a kid, using walkthroughs. I haven't been able to play it again couse the damn computer won't run it, but now I can becouse I just got a ancient laptop. Didn't know about any sequels though. might try them in near future.
