As an owner of a custom machine shop myself. I know just how hard is to find talented staff and once you have them holding on to them is not easy.
If Boyd wanted to keep Charlie he should have looked after him better. Forget the loyalty BS just pay the guy and give him better working conditions hours etc. BBQ and some beers on a Friday goes a long way. Small things count like a pat on the back now and then. if Boyd matched Fooses offer he would have kept Charlie. But he was too proud to.

If I recall correctly, Charlie had an offer from Foose to work on a car for a major magazine shoot. That's a huge opportunity, he'd be known around the world and that would be a selling point for Boyd to have him there and free advertising. Charlie just wanted to that do one car and come back and Boyds' ego couldn't tolerate it. But Foose had no problem letting Boyd's paint guy do the work, either Foose is a better man or he it was a plan to steal Charlie because he knew Boyd would go nuts.
I hope Charley does well, he was one of Boyd's best..hard to find people that good....i have seen all the best guys go from Boyd's shop, pushes people to the limit..and this happens....they were a great team to watch, and i truly wish them all the best....

Boyd must ahev been one of those boses, Ive had them, whereby they emotionally balckmail you into working harder, beyond the call of a normal job.
These guys were probably in every weekend, because Boyd tried to make out they were in his 'family' but he obvs didnt pay the guys enough, or they wouldnt all walk out.
For insatnce my Dad (retired now) ran a yacht marins for 50 years, and 70% of 200 emplyees were with him from teh start, because he paid way over the rate in excahnge for loyalty

If I recall correctly, Charlie had an offer from Foose to work on a car for a major magazine shoot. That's a huge opportunity, he'd be known around the world and that would be a selling point for Boyd to have him there and free advertising. Charlie just wanted to that do one car and come back and Boyds' ego couldn't tolerate it. But Foose had no problem letting Boyd's paint guy do the work, either Foose is a better man or he it was a plan to steal Charlie because he knew Boyd would go nuts.

I hope Charley does well, he was one of Boyd's best..hard to find people that good....i have seen all the best guys go from Boyd's shop, pushes people to the limit..and this happens....they were a great team to watch, and i truly wish them all the best....

Boyd was the man who gave a local Idaho guy a chance at building national level show cars for him and he did that! I can understand how boyd feels, But Family is important! I watched the show for a while and gave up because Boyd was such a phony asshole, with his tropical shirts and shoe polished beard. His guys putting in all kinds of hours and not only does he take the credit for the work but he bitches them out too. I remember one episode he decided to show the guys how to drill the hole through a firewall for a steering column and he drilled it way too high. Boyd may have been something once upon a time but that time had passed long before he did.

From 1993 till 1998, Chip Foose disigned most of what came out of Cottington shop. The Roadster, Sportstar, Boydster 1&2, Boyd Air, to name a few. About all Boyd did was on the shop.
